ORGANIZATIONThe Nippon Harp Associat ion sets up the Competition Committee. The Repertoire Selection Committee, the Music Committee and the secre-tariat are set up in the Competition Committee for planning and operating the competition. The jury is organized by prominent musicians from Japan and abroad. The competition is operated accord-ing to the rules set by the Committee.

QUALIFICATIONThe competition is open to harpists of all nationali-ties who meet the age requirements.Advanced division: Up to 20 years oldJunior division: Up to 12 years old(as of November 15, 2012)The prev ious winner o f the Nippon Harp Competition is not qualified to compete in younger divisions.

APPLICATIONThe applicants must submit the following materials in order to enroll in the competition.(Please note that all the materials submitted including the entry fee are non-refundable under any circumstances.)

The 24th Nippon Harp Competition

The Nippon Harp Competition is organized by the Nippon Harp Association and the Soka City Cultural Association for the purpose of promoting harp music in Japan and fostering young harpists.Since the first competition held in 1989, it has been held annually in cooperation with Soka City. The competition for Advanced and Junior divisions will be held in Soka City between November 15 and 18, 2012.

APPLICATION PERIODApplications will be accepted from September 1 to October 1, 2012.The mail postmarked during this period is acceptable.

PERFORMANCEThe competition will be open to the general public.

HARPS・ Advanced divisionHarps will be available to those who are unable to bring their own instruments (Aoyama, Lyon & Healy, Salvi).Practice time on the Performance-Harps will be available on November 14 after the drawing for the order of performance, according to the time table set by the secretariat.

・ Junior divisionAll the contestants must play one of the Performance-Harps provided by the competition (Aoyama 42 strings, Aoyama semi concert type, Aoyama full concert type).There will be practice time for the contestants to accustom to the Performance-Harps and also practice rooms with harps are available assigned by secretariat.

PRIZESUp to 6 prize winners will be selected to be awarded with a certificate of merit. In addition, the top three winners will be awarded with the following prizes:・ Advanced division

1st prize: ¥150,000 and Soka City Mayor’s Award trophy2nd prize: ¥100,0003rd prize: ¥50,000

・ Junior division1st prize: ¥50,000 and Soka City Mayor’s Award trophy2nd prize: ¥40,0003rd prize: ¥30,000

The First prize winners will perform at “Soka International Harp Festival 2012” on November 18.

All the performing rights in relation with the competition, including performances at the concert, TV broadcasting, recordings, videos, photos belong to The Nippon Harp Association.No contestants can request payment for the above rights.
