AMRUT DISTILLERIES PVT LTD (ADPL) is a company with a history dating

back to the late 1940’s. In the six decades and more since its inception as a

fledgling and novice organization in the field of liquor making, ADPL has made

giant strides in the quality of its products, diversity of its product portfolio, nature

of its clientele and in the geographic spread of its market.

While ADPL is today acknowledged as an important player in the IMFL industry

in the country, its products have created waves even outside India, most notably in

the European Union and in the North American continent. Its product AMRUT

INDIAN SINGLE MALT WHISKY (ASM) and its variants are today accepted as

among the best Single Malt products that the world has to offer. Evidence of its

global standing is the plethora of awards that ASM and its variants have won at no

less than 25 different international forums. The crowning glory is of course the

rating as the 3rd Finest Whisky in the world that was accorded to AMRUT

FUSION Single Malt Whisky.

Apart from ASM, our premium rum, TWO INDIES, another premium whisky

MAQINTOSH SILVER EDITION WHISKY, etc have also gained widespread

appreciation and acceptance. It is therefore no exaggeration to state that the

company is poised to build on its well-earned reputation to scale ever greater

heights.

With appreciation pouring from all directions, demand for the company’s products

has also been rising continuously over the past few years. To meet the rising

demand while maintaining and enhancing the quality of its products, the company

has drawn up expansion plans comprising

iv. List of raw material required and their source along with mode of transportation.

RAW MATERIAL The primary raw material is jaggery which is locally produced In the state. As is well- known, Karnataka, being a net Exporter, is a surplus state in so far as availability of jaggery is Concerned. Besides, our requirement is a mere 0.2% of total Production of jaggery within the state. Considering all these, We anticipate no difficulties in sourcing Jaggery in sufficient Quantities to meet out requirements. Other material such as yeast, etc is already part of our Existing procurement routines and would pose no logistical Or other difficulties in sourcing. Barley Malt is procured from the Northern states of Punjab, H P, and others, And is transported by trains and trucks, Grapes are from locally grown sources and transported by road. E N A is procured from the various primary distilleries in our state.

ii. Geological features and Geo-hydrological status of the study area shall be included.

The land is very well developed and the areas are well drained , flat and raising towards eastern side .

Study on the groundwater occurrence in located at Kambipura in Kengeri hobli, Bangalolre District to ascertain the geohydrological features and to estimate the groundwater resources in the area. The area is comprised of granitic gneiss with dolerite intrusives. Red sandy soil is predominant. The first order streams flows Northerly Generally the tanks remain dry for most part of the year. In view of their dryness for most part of the year, there is no effective irrigation from these tanks.

A systematic integrated approach has been made to delineate potential target zones and to select productive bore well sites. Relevant hydrogeomorphological features have been identified and delineated. Detailed field work has been carried out to study the geology of the area and also well inventory was carried out to study the groundwater conditions. Satellite imagery has also been consulted to identify the fracture/lineaments. Finally, a systematic resistivity survey has been conducted in the selected zones to understand the subsurface conditions and to locate bore well sites.

GEOMORPHOLOGY

The area forms a clayey sandy soil underlain by granitic gneisses. The rocky outcrops are not seen on the surface, but however, at places, where the terrain is severely eroded. Weathered gneisses are seen. The gneisses are traversed by numerous quartz and pegmatite veins. A major fracture/lineament trending NNE-SSW, passing through the central portion towards north of the area has been inferred and it is occupied by a stream. The area is sloping NNE- direction and lake nearby. It seems to be like valley portion. The aquifer is there at different places in patches.

A granitic mound located west of Ramanagra has a maximum altitude of 957 M in the area and minimum altitude of 900 M is near channaptna which happens to be the groundwater discharge point in the micro-watershed.

Study of land uses of ecosystem play an important part in identifying issues and to take appropriate

action to maintain "Ecological Homoeostasis" in the development of the region.

This section is to define the present environmental status and evaluate changes that might occur due

to Urbanization. The study of the land pattern that is helpful device for the proper utilization of the

land for construction of building, green belt development

The Objectives of the Land Use Study is:

• To determine the present land use.

• To analyze the impact on land use due to construction of ware house and bottling

plant

• To recommend optimization of the future land use pattern vise-avis growth of

population and its associate impacts.

Methodology:

The land use has been studied by analyzing and synthesizing the secondary data i.e., from the

1991 District Census Handbook covered under the REIA study.

Location Setting (Regional)

The proposed project is located at a Lattitude 12o53’23.07”N and Longitude77o 27’08.46”E of The

total plot area of the project is about 4 acres and is located at a distance of about 20 KM from

Bangalore City. The Topo-map of study area indicating 10 KM radius around the project site and

the contours indicating the general nature of the terrain in the study area is enclosed in Annexure

Land Use Pattern: The land around the project site indicates a mixed land use pattern with industrial,

residential, commercial establishments and partially agricultural areas.

The general pattern of industrial and residential Growth shows that they are developed on the

outskirts of the villages and along with urban setting due to its proximity to the Bangalore city and

the residential needs.

Transportation: This area where the residential apartment is proposed is well connected to Bangalore

city by S H – 17 which connects Bangalore City to Mysuru Town and continues

Agricultural Land: No major agricultural farming activities are observed in the close vicinity of the

project area other than the cultivations in the villages of Kambipura and Ramohalli

In addition to this farming activities can be observed along the road that leads to Channapatna and

due to the urban setting no farming activities are observed towards the direction of Bangalore city.

8.2.7 Soil Environment:

Soil Characteristics:

It is essential to determine the potential of soil in the area and identify the impacts of urbanization

and industrialization on soil quality. Accordingly, a study of assessment of the soil quality has

been carried out.

Data Generation:

For studying the existing soil profile of the region, sampling locations were selected in and around

the project area representing various land use locations. The physical, chemical and heavy metal

concentrations were determined. The samples were collected by ramming a core-cutter into the soil

up to a depth of 90 cms.

The present study on soil profile establishes the baseline characteristics and identifies the

incremental concentrations if any, due to the proposed plant. The sampling locations have been

identified with the following objective:

• To determine the baseline soil characteristics of the study area

• To determine the impact of Urbanization on soil characteristics, and

• To determine the impact on soils more importantly from agricultural productivity point of

view.

. At each location, soil samples were collected from three different depths viz. 30 cms, 60 cms and

90 cms below the surface and homogenized. The homogenized samples were analyzed for physical

and chemical characteristics.

Baseline Soil Status:

Soil samples were collected at the project site. The physicochemical characteristic of the soil are

analyzed and tabulated in the Table -3.2 as under.

The borehole investigations indicate the presence of Top Surface layers of red. Reddish Brown, to

brown with grey, clayey Silty sand to Silty clayey sand, under layer by brown with grey, to red with

yellow and grey, clayey Silty sand to Silty clayey sand. These to surface extend to depths ranging

from 2.50 m to 3.00 m. therefore; the sub soil encountered is grey with white, brown with white, to

white with yellow, clayey Silty sand to Silty sand with clay.

The results of the analysis show that the nature of soil varies from SILTY CLAYEY SAND TO

SILTY SANDY CLAY in the project area. Available water absorption/holding capacity is about

42.08%. Soil from the location does not show any sodicity problem. Soils are slightly acidic, having

low dissolved salts (i.e. low electrical conductivity values). Nutrients, Organic carbon values

indicate that soil have fair/good potential for green belt development.

The locations of bore holes. Soil profile, Grain size analysis and the soil properties are enclosed in

the following pages.

SOILS

Red sandy soil and black soil are the types seen in the study area Red sandy soil which is confined to the upper regions in its thickness from 1 to 1.5 M. Black soil confined to valleys and lower regions, varies in thickness from 0.50 to 1.50 M.

GEOLOGY

The area is comprised of granitic gneiss intruded by dolerite dyke outcrops of granitic gneiss are seen to the west of Kumbalgodu The foliation trend of the granitic gneiss is NNW-SSE. Small amphibolite outcrops are seen on the road side.

Two prominent dykes are seen in the area while the one at Ramohalli Village has ENE-WSW trend the other occurring south west of Kambipura Village has East-West trend. These dykes have created on impact on the mode of occurrence of groundwater.

GROUNDWATER OCCURRENCE

Groundwater in the area occurs under unconfined water table condition in the weathered zone. The static water level is about 60 feet below the ground level, the water table is cut y the topography and a temporary effluent situation is observed. The aquifer seems to be good.

RESISTIVITY IVESTIGATION

In order to understand the nature of the subsurface formation and to detect the fractures, detailed electrical resistivity investigation has been -carried out. 10 vertical electrical soundings VES has been conducted in a systematic manner down to a depth equivalent of 200 mts of AB/2 separation. The location of different VES spots is shown.

The subsurface is characterized by an electrically layered structure the top one interpreted as the solid and highly weathered zone. The middle layer representing weathered/semi weathered/fractured rock and the third highly resistive layer indicating the hard rock.

ADPL[Type text] Page 42

The thickness of the first layer varies from 1.8 to 7.0 mts with the resistivity varying from 6 ohm.mts to 100 ohm.mts indicating the different chemical/physical character of the top soil at the different places. The weathered fractured zone also shows marked variation in the resistivity which ranges from 4.2 to 56 ohm.mts and its thickness varies from 2.7 to 35 mts. The depth of the hard basement as indicated by the asymptotic nature of the VES curve varies from 5.4 to 32.4 mts below the ground surface.

In general, depth of weathering is more in the vicinity of the fracture zone occupied by the stream and also towards the North-eastern part.

GROUNDWATER UTILISATION

The groundwater in the area occurs under unconfined and semi confined conditions. Around granites are highly fractured and are found to be potential zones for groundwater resources. The study of the bore wells in the area indicated the weathered zone ranging upto 15 to 20 meters depth.

Generally the potential fractures are trapped between 45 to 120 meters

All the bore wells are fitted with 5 to 7.5 HP sub-mersible pumps. The pumping hours for irrigation during Rabi and summer ranges from 4 to 6 hours per day. During Kharif the pumping hour depends upon the rainfall and it varies from 6 to 8 hours per day. The depth of bore well drilled ranges from 300 – 800 ft. with the yield ranging from 600 to 3500 GPH.

Apart from the irrigation bore wells there are sixteen bore wells drilled in to meet the drinking water requirements of Kumbalgodu Panchayat area, these bore wells drilled from 35 to 190 meters depth are yielding 600 to 2000 GPH. The groundwater draft for drinking purposes is assessed at about 7.79 hectare metres annually.

The groundwater pumped from bore wells is stored in the surface ponds constructed out of mud from where water is further fed to the crops. Conveyance and evaporation losses are more through such practices. It has been observed, that in certain pocke5ts there is over irrigation and no judicious usage of groundwater resources. Crops like Mulberry, Banana, Sugarcane, Ragi, Maize, Groundnut, Garden crops and Vegetables are commonly grown under well irrigation.

The closest residential area is Kumbalgodu village which is situated about 1 Km from the plant and the details are as below

The growth of unit sectors and infrastructure developments in and around agricultural and industrial dominant areas, villages and towns is bound to create its impact on the socio economic life of the local population. The impacts may be positive or negative depending upon the development activity. To assess the impacts on the socio economics of the local people, it is necessary to study the existing socio economics of the local population, which will be helpful for the further improvement the quality of the life. To study the socio economic aspects, the required data has been collected from various secondary sources.

Observing from the demographic description of the study area it is inferred that chief occupation of the residents of the surrounding areas of the project site is dependent on the employment opportunities in Bangalore city and some industrial and commercial establishments in the surrounding area.

The proposed unit project would result in creating a few direct and indirect job opportunities and will also result in direct employment potential and thus be beneficial for the populace in the study area and there will not be any impact on demography/occupation pattern due to the proposed project.

xiv. Onsite and offsite disaster (natural and Man-made) preparedness and emergency management plan including risk assessment and damage control. Disaster management plan should be linked with district disaster management plan.

Rapid development of the city has posed wide-ranging hazards threatening safety and health of people. Accidents may adversely affect the environment and the people living in the vicinity. These accidents can be minimized to a great extent by proper procedures, handling and training. But it may be difficult to reach zero risk or absolute safety level. Whenever such incidents do occur in order to prevent loss of lives and damage to property, it becomes necessary to take immediate steps to control the situation. This can be achieved through a planned advance preparation to face such a situation with respect to both on site and off site emergencies.

On – Site Management Plan

The On-site plan will be circulated to all concerned members of emergency teams. It is essential that all concerned familiarize themselves with the overall on-site emergency plan and their respective roles and responsibilities during and emergency. They should also participate regularly in the mock drills that will be conducted so as to keep themselves and the emergency organization in a state of perpetual preparedness at all times at all times to meet any emergency.

Objectives, Scope and contents of On-site Emergency Plan

Objective of Emergency planning are to maximize the resource utilization and combined efforts towards emergency operations and would broadly cover the following.

1. To localize the emergency and if possible eliminate it. 2. To minimize the effects of accidents on people and property. 3. To take remedial measures in the quickest possible time to contain the incident and control it

with minimum damage. 4. To mobilize the internal resources and utilize them in the most effective way. 5. To get help from the local community and government officials to supplement internal

manpower and resources. 6. To minimize the damage in other sections. 7. To keep the required emergency equipment in stock at right places and ensure that they are in

working condition. 8. To keep the concerned personnel fully trained in the use of emergency equipment. 9. To give immediate warning to the surrounding localities in case of an emergency situation

arising. 10. To mobilize transport and medical treatment of the injured. 11. To educate the public in the surrounding villages regarding hazards. 12. To arrange for rescue and treatment of casualties. 13. To safe guard the people. 14. To identify the causalities and communicate to relatives. 15. To render necessary help to concerned. 16. To rehabilitate area affected. 17. To provide information to media & government agencies.

Scope of Onsite Emergency Plan

The plan covers information regarding the properties of the commercial complex and Multiplex, type of disasters and disaster/accident – prone zones, the actual disaster control plans with authority delegation, controlling and other details. General details like locations, project layout, neighboring entities and the assistance they can render etc., are also provided.

The important elements considered in this plan are

• Statutory requirements • Emergency organization • Roles and responsibilities • Communications during emergency • Emergency shutdown & control of situation • Rescue & Rehabilitation • Emergency facilities • Important Information

The primary purpose of the on-site emergency plan of feasibility report is to control and contain the incident and so to prevent if from spreading. It is not possible to cover every eventuality in the plan and the successful handling of the emergency will depend on appropriate action and decisions being taken on the spot. Other important aspects needing to be considered include the following:

Page 81: REPLIES TO THE TERMS OF REFERENCE ISSUED BY S …kspcb.kar.nic.in/PH/EIA_Amruth_Distilleries_19042017.pdf · Cost of project and time of completion. Sl no. Rs. ... Malt Spirit Plant

Emergency

A major emergency in any situation is one, which has the potential to cause serious injury or loss of life, which may cause extensive damage to the structures in the vicinity and environment and could result in serious disruption to normal operation both inside and outside the layout premises. Depending on the magnitude of the emergency, services of the outside agencies may also be required for supplementing the internal effort to effectively handle the emergency and to contain the damage.

The Management has to take effective steps to assess, minimize and wherever feasible eliminate the risks to a large extent. Accidents may still occur and it is necessary to be fully prepared to tackle all such emergencies if and when they occur.

It is likely that the consequences of such emergencies will be confined to the units concerned or may affect outside. If the consequences are confined within the plant boundary, it is then termed as on site Emergency and will be controlled by chief emergency controller.

In order to generate the plans it is necessary to first determine the kinds of accidents leading to an emergency that can occur in the layout. The most widely used technique in practice is based on experience accumulated over many years and safety audits.

A. Methodology

The considerations in an emergency planning include the following:-

• Identification and assessment of hazards and risks. • Hazard, consequence analysis • Alarm and communication procedures • Identifying, appointment of personnel & assignment of responsibilities • Identification and equipping emergency control center, identifying Assembly, Rescue points,

Medical facilities. • Emergency preparedness plan, procedures, steps to be taken before, during and after

emergency. • Formulation of plan and emergency sources. • Training rehearsal, evaluation and updating the plan

B Structure of Emergency Management

a) Nothing the accidents b) Informing declarer of emergency c) Declaration of emergency d) Functions of declaration e) Interaction with outside agencies

C Identification and Assessment of Hazards

This stage is crucial to both on-site and off-site emergency planning and requires systematic identification of all possible emergencies that could arise in the plants. These should range from small events, which can be dealt by plant personnel without any help from external agencies to the largest event that would require outside help. The tackle such emergencies effectively, it is essential to have clear-cut action plan. Experience has shown that for every occasion that the full potential of an accident is realized, there are many occasions when some lesser event occurs or when developing incident is made safe before reaching full potential.

d. Emergency Action Plan for Oil Fire:

1. Attempt to extinguish small fire with the help of DCP 2. If the fire is not controlled, use water foam to blanket the fire and further action is to be taken.

e. Emergency Action Plan for Medical Aid:

f. Emergency Action Plan for Electric Shock Casualties:

Electric Shock results in:

Irreversible damage to brain cell begins followed by deterioration of the organs.

Rescue and first aid:

Do first aid quickly and without fuss and panic.

• Switch off the supply if this can be done at once. • If not possible use a dry stick, dry cloth or other non-conductor to separate the victim from

electrical contact. • The reducer must avoid receiving shock himself by wearing gloves or using a jacket to pull

the victim. • Always keep in mind that delay in rescue and resuscitation may be fatal. Every sound counts.

ii. Artificial Respiration:

Give artificial respiration if breathing has stopped. There are several methods of artificial respiration, if the victim is nit injured over the face, try mouth to mouth.

a) Mouth to Mouth Method:

• If there is obstruction to breathing, remove it with your fingers if it in mouth. Several sharp blows between shoulder blade may help to is lodge an obstruction.

• Lie casually on his back, put something under his shoulder to raise them & allow his head to fall backwards. The head should be, if possible be a little lower than the trunk. Remember that speed is essential.

• Kneel at the causalities head and grasp his arms at the wrists then cross them firmly over the lower chest. This movement should force air out of his lungs. Press with the hands crossed on the lower part of the chest and maintain pressure for two seconds.

• Release this pressure and pull out his arms with a sweeping movement upwards and outwards above his head and backwards as far as possible.

• This movement should cause air to be drawn in to his lungs. Retain the arms in this position for three seconds.

• Repeat these movements rhythmically about twelve times a minute checking the mouth frequently for obstructions. Each cycle will thus take give seconds- two seconds for hest pressure and three seconds for arm lift.

• With the causality on his back there is danger of aspiration of vomit, mucus or blood re-entering the system. Keeping his head extended and a little lower than the trunk can reduce this risk.

• If an assistant is available, he can press the causality lower jaws so that the chin is jutting out.
