client. Users who wish to preserve access to their saved documents can follow thesteps below:

1. Have the user note the documents saved on their device that they want tocontinue accessing.

2. Uninstall the RepliGo Professional 1.x client.

3. Install the RepliGo Professional 2.0 client.

4. For any documents they listed above, have the user email the original documentas an attachment to their device.

5. On their device, highlight the email with the attached document and select the “Open with RepliGo” menu item.

6. Highlight the document in the list and select the “Save” menu item. Add theappropriate tags and click the “Save” button.

UninstallingUninstalling RepliGo Server is a simple process that requires minimal offline time of your BlackBerry Controller. Follow the steps below to uninstall RepliGo Server.

1. On your BES machine, stop the BlackBerry Controller and the WindowsManagement Instrumentation service.

2. Run the RepliGo Server uninstaller.

3. Restart the BlackBerry Controller and the Windows ManagementInstrumentation service.

4. If you have configured RepliGo Server to run remote to your BES, run the

RepliGo Server uninstaller on that machine as well. On the remote machineyou do not need to stop any services, including RepliGo Server, prior torunning the uninstaller.

Note If you had previously enabled browser integration for RepliGo, you mustmodify your BES transcoder configuration file to revert to the defaultBlackBerry transcoder. See the “ Configuring browser and MicrosoftSharePoint Integration ” section for more information on browserintegration.

Backup & Restore and Migrating

Backup & Restore and Migrating

Using the Backup toolRepliGo Server provides a tool to ease the task of performing Backup & Restore andfor migrating to a new machine. This tool will archive all configuration settings and, optionally, the document cache and your users’ saved documents.

This information is also available in the Administrator application, under the Tools tab,on the Backup and Restore page.

Document cache and user storageThere are two options available on the first screen of the Backup wizard. Theseoptions are for the document cache and the user document storage, and allow you tosave or omit this data from the settings archive.

The document cache is temporary storage within RepliGo Server that holds copies of documents that passed through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server mail system whileRepliGo Server is installed. Documents and their intermediate results from RepliGoconversion are stored here for quick access by BlackBerry devices. Periodically, entries older than the specified aging period are deleted.

If the new RepliGo Server installation will have a different set of users than theexisting one, then you should not transfer the document cache. If the current set of users will be moved to the new RepliGo Server, and you wish to maintain theiraccess to recent attachments that may be in their Inbox, then you may want toleave this option checked. To determine whether you should leave this optionenabled, please refer to the “Practical Considerations” section below.

Stored documents are those that users have selected for long-term storage using theRepliGo Save command on their devices. These documents not affected by the agingperiod, but are managed by the user allotted space assigned on the "Tools >Document Handling > Document Storage" page of the Administrator application. If you wish to maintain user access to these documents on the new server, you shouldleave this option checked.

Practical considerationsIn high usage installations, RepliGo Server may cache many MB of documents, evenGB quantities over the document cache-aging period. The Backup program canarchive up to approximately 4 GB of cached document data. Larger than this, thearchival time becomes long and it becomes more practical to transfer the directory

structure manually, to minimize the amount of down time for RepliGo Server. Guideyour actions considering down-time, network traffic, and high-use periods in yourorganization.

To determine out how large the document cache has grown, check the size of thedirectory webapps\srvcore\WEB-INF\srv\data and its contents under the RepliGoServer installation directory. If you decide to exclude document cache from thesettings archive, then the cache should be copied after the settings archive

Backup & Restore and Migrating

executable has been run on the new installation. This should be done prior torestarting RepliGo Server.

One method to copy the cache would be to make the data directory on the newinstallation a network share, and simply copy the directory structure in WindowsExplorer over the network.

Note Running the Backup tool requires stopping the RepliGo Server. Anyattachments that pass through your BES while RepliGo Server is stopped willnot be viewable by RepliGo. To make these accessible to RepliGo, have yourusers forward the email with the attachment to themselves.

Please contact Cerience technical support for assistance if you have questionsregarding moving RepliGo Server installations.

Backup & Restore

For the backup operation, it is recommended to disable the saving of the documentcache. Since the cache holds a snapshot of the current set of documents, these areunlikely to be applicable at some future date.

Backing up RepliGo Server1. On the RepliGo Server computer, stop RepliGo Server.

2. Start the RepliGo Server Backup application. This can be accessed byselecting “Start > All Programs > RepliGo Server > Backup”. This will create asingle, self-extracting executable archive named “Restore RepliGo ServerSettings.exe”.

3. Restart RepliGo Server.

Restoring RepliGo Server1. On the RepliGo Server computer, stop RepliGo Server.

2. Run the “Restore RepliGo Server Settings.exe” archive. This will restore yoursaved settings onto the new computer.

3. Restart RepliGo Server.

MigratingUse the Backup tool to migrate RepliGo Server to a new machine. This is usefulconverting to new hardware or when reconfiguring RepliGo Server from local toremote to your BES.

Migrating RepliGo Server1. On the new computer, run the RepliGo Server installer. See the “ Installing ”

section for more information on installing RepliGo Server.

Backup & Restore and Migrating

2. On the existing RepliGo Server computer, stop RepliGo Server.

3. Start the RepliGo Server Backup application. This can be accessed byselecting “Start > All Programs > RepliGo Server > Backup”. This will create asingle, self-extracting executable archive named “Restore RepliGo ServerSettings.exe”.

4. Copy this archive to the new computer.

5. On the new computer, stop the newly installed RepliGo Server using theWindows Services control panel.

6. Run the “Restore RepliGo Server Settings.exe” archive. This will restore yoursaved settings onto the new computer.

7. On the new computer, restart RepliGo Server.

8. If you are running RepliGo Server local to your BES, you have completed thearchive migration and should skip to step 11. If you are running RepliGoServer remote to your BES, return to your BES machine and continue withsteps 9 and 10.

9. The extension must be update to point to the newly installed RepliGo Server. On your BES machine, open the registry and navigate to the key

“ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerryEnterprise Server\Agents\Plugins\CerBESExt ”. Modify the machine nameportion of the “ Server ” value to specify the new RepliGo Server computer.

Note You must keep the same port value, regardless of whatever ports youassigned in the new install. The configuration archive includes the portvalues from your previous install, which will overwrite whatever values youentered when installing the new RepliGo Server.

10. Restart your BES controller.

11. You can optionally create a BES IT policy to make the RepliGo client aware of the new RepliGo Server machine. This may need to be done for multiplegroups to ensure that all RepliGo users are updated. See the “Change ordelete IT policy rules for custom applications” section in the BESadministrator’s guide for more information on creating IT policies.

a. In the BES Administrator application, under the IT Policies, select the UserDefined Items property and create a policy named “RepliGo Server”.

b. Assign its values to <hostname>:<port>, where <hostname> is thehostname of the server and <port> is the first of the four ports assignedto RepliGo Server. The default first port for RepliGo Server is 4080.

Once this policy has been pushed to the device, it will remain on the device, even if you delete it from the BES Administrator. If you decide at some futuretime that you no longer wish to use this policy, you should leave the policydefined and clear its value in the BES Administrator. This has the effect of instructing the RepliGo client to ignore this policy.

Backup & Restore and Migrating

Note If you choose not to create the IT Policy, email attachments that wereprocessed prior to the server migration will no longer be accessible. Moreover, until a new attachment is opened by RepliGo, saved documentswill also not be accessible to users.

12. If you are also moving your BES and had previously enabled browserintegration for RepliGo, you must reconfigure the browser transcoder settings.See the “ Configuring browser and Microsoft SharePoint Integration ” sectionfor more information on browser integration.

When you deploy the client to users, RepliGo Server utilizes MDS to push an html

message to their Inbox. This message contains simple instructions and a link todownload and install the RepliGo Professional client software. The contents of thismessage are automatically generated for you based on the settings you enteredduring the installation of RepliGo Server. You may customize this message with yourown information if you wish.

An alternative method is to have your users manually install the product on theirdevices. Search the RepliGo Server folder tree for the RepliGo Professional clientmodules, which are a single .alx file and multiple .cod files. You may distribute thesefiles to your users and have them install the client using the Application Loader in theBlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Updating a user’s deviceAt some point, you may have a user who is replacing or updating their device. Toenable RepliGo for their new device simply update the PIN value in the RepliGoServer Administrator and redeploy the client to them. After they have installed theRepliGo client, they can select the “Refresh” menu item in RepliGo to re-enableaccess to their saved documents.

Configuring RepliGo Server

Configuring document storage and conversionYou can control how documents are stored and converted on the Document Handlingpage. RepliGo Server allows you to specify the period of time for documents to becached and the disk space for each user’s permanent document storage. Togetherthese settings allow you to control the disk space required by RepliGo Server (see

Figure 12) . See the “ Determining disk space requirements ” section for additionalinformation on setting the document cache and storage size values.

Configuring RepliGo Server

You can also set whether the conversion to the RepliGo document format is done onsame machine or on a separate Worker machine. Typically, conversion is done onthe same machine as RepliGo Server since generally the document processing load iswell below the server capacity. However, in cases where a large number of users aresupported, one or more separate Worker machines can be used to offload thedocument processing to ensure that your overall server response times are always

fast. Utilizing multiple Worker machines can also allow you to scale your RepliGosolution as your needs grow.

In addition, RepliGo Server can be configured to use Microsoft Office 2007 during theconversion of Office formats or its own build-in converter. Using Microsoft Office hasthe advantage of providing the most accurate conversion of your Office documentsas well as supporting the new XML-based Office 2007 formats.

See the section entitled “ Deployment options ” for more information about thesedifferent configurations.

Configuring email sending

Note This feature is only available if BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.2 or higher isinstalled.

RepliGo Server can be configured to allow your users to use the RepliGo client tocompose emails on their devices and attach documents to send to other users (seeFigure 13) . On the Email Configuration page check the “Enable email forwarding” checkbox to enable this feature for all of your users. Unlike the Network Accessfeature, this cannot be configured on a per-user basis.

Configuring fax sending

Note This feature is only available if BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.2 or higher isinstalled.

If your company supports email-to-fax, through either an internal fax server or anexternal service, you can allow your users to easily fax documents directly from theirdevices. On the Fax Configuration page you can assign whether to enable faxingthrough RepliGo Server, as well the email format required by your fax server orservice and any special instructions for the user (see Figure 14) . Please refer to theadministrator’s guide of your fax server or service for information on the formatrequired for their email-to-fax support. Unlike the Network Access feature, thiscannot be configured on a per-user basis.

Configuring RepliGo Server

Configuring browser and Microsoft SharePoint integration

Note This feature is only available if BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.2 or higher isinstalled.

RepliGo Server can be configured to override the viewing of documents in your user’sdevice browser to use RepliGo Professional client instead. If enabled, any documentlink click on in the BlackBerry browser will open the document in RepliGo. This allowsviewing of documents from internal web servers as well as the Internet in theRepliGo client. In addition, because you can configure SharePoint 3.0 for mobileaccess, it also provides access to supported document types that reside in yourSharePoint system.

By default, this feature is not enabled and requires manual configuration beforebeing available to your users. To enable this feature there are three steps whichmust be performed:

1. Copy the RepliGo Server transcoder to BES2. Configure the BES transcoder configuration file3. Restart MDS

These steps are also available on the Brower Integration page of the Administratorapplication. If needed, please contact our Technical Support team to assist you inmaking these changes.

Note Enabling this feature substitutes the RepliGo Server transcoder for the defaultBES version, thus changing the behavior of the browser for all users on theBES server, not just the users enabled for RepliGo Server. Users on the BESserver that are not enabled for RepliGo Server will see an error message whenviewing document links in their device browser.

1. Copy the RepliGo Server transcoder to BESCopy the file transcoderRepliGo.jar from your RepliGo Server install directoryto the BlackBerry Enterprise Server\MDS\classpath directory on your BESmachine. Depending upon your install configuration, these may be on the samemachine or different machines.

2. Configure your BES transcoder configuration fileOn your BES computer, find the file named httpcontenttranscoderslist.xml and open it with a text editor. Prior to editing this file, it is recommended thatyou first make a backup copy.

This file can be found under your BES install tree in the BlackBerry EnterpriseServer\MDS\Servers\<HOST>\config directory where <HOST> is the name of your BES server, as shown in your BlackBerry Manager application.

Locate the section of the XML text that describes the transcoder. Typically, thatsection will be something like this:

Page 36: RepliGo Server Administrator Guide

8/8/2019 RepliGo Server Administrator Guide

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/repligo-server-administrator-guide 36/48

Configuring RepliGo Server

<transcoder><transcoder-name>UCS</transcoder-name><transcoder-class>vnd.rim.ucs</transcoder-class><device-profile-pattern>

<accept>http://www\.blackberry\.net/go/mobile/profiles/uaprof/.*</accept>

</device-profile-pattern></transcoder>

Once found you should either delete or "comment" it such that it is no longer ineffect. To comment it, place the proper XML comment lines around that section of text so it appears like this:

<!--<transcoder>

<transcoder-name>UCS</transcoder-name><transcoder-class>vnd.rim.ucs</transcoder-class><device-profile-pattern>

<accept>http://www\.blackberry\.net/go/mobile/profiles/uaprof/.*</accept>

</device-profile-pattern></transcoder>-->

Once deleted or commented, add the following XML text immediately below thatsection:

<transcoder><transcoder-name>RepliGo</transcoder-name><transcoder-class>RepliGo</transcoder-class><device-profile-pattern>

<accept>http://www\.blackberry\.net/go/mobile/profiles/uaprof/.*</accept>

</device-profile-pattern></transcoder>

After making those changes, save the file and exit the text editor.

3. Restart MDSAfter you have made the two changes above, restart the BlackBerry MDS ConnectionService in the Windows Services control panel on your BES machine. At this point theconfiguration is complete, and you should be able to browse to document links inyour device’s BlackBerry Browser and have the document open in the RepliGoProfessional viewer.

Advanced Configurations

Advanced Configurations

ArchitectureRepliGo Server has been designed with a modular architecture which allows you tooptimize the solution for your environment—for cost, performance and ease of administration—and to scale as your needs demand. In this architecture there arethree server-side components which work together to provide the RepliGo solution.

• RepliGo ControllerHandles the communication with both BES and the BlackBerry devices. Therecan be only a single RepliGo Controller.

• RepliGo WorkerPerforms document conversion to the RepliGo format prior to transferringdocuments to the device. There can be multiple RepliGo Worker.

• RepliGo BES ExtensionProvides the integration with BlackBerry Enterprise Server. This componentmust reside on the same machine as BES.

One major advantage of this architecture is that RepliGo Server can support severaldifferent deployment strategies. With these strategies, you can install thecomponents of RepliGo Server on a single machine or distribute them across multiplemachines, allowing you to control the performance and cost of your RepliGo Serversolution.

Advanced Configurations

Installing them together on a single machine reduces your cost and simplifies theadministration. For larger deployments, however, it may be beneficial to install themon separate machines. This allows document conversion to be performed withoutaffecting the responsiveness of the other processing requests. For environments withheavy document activity, you can optionally configure multiple RepliGo Workers todistribute the document conversion load (see Figure 15) . This allows you to scale

your RepliGo solution as your needs grow.

Some environments contain multiple BlackBerry Enterprise Servers co-located on thesame physical network. If the document activity level is not too high, you canconfigure a single RepliGo Server to support some or all of these BES machines.

Standalone and clustered configurationsWhen RepliGo Server is installed in its standard configuration, with both theController and Worker on the same machine, it is referred to as a standaloneconfiguration. When the RepliGo Controller and Worker are installed on separatemachines, it is referred to as a clustered configuration. The clustered configurationallows you to offload document conversion from the Controller onto one or morededicated Worker machines.

Document conversion performed on the RepliGo Worker can be CPU intensive attimes, so regardless of whether you select the standalone or the clusteredconfiguration, a separate machine—one that is remote to your BES—can provide youwith the best results and performance.

Below is a table that describes the different configurations supported for RepliGoServer.

If installing Microsoft Office 2007 for document conversion in a clusteredconfiguration, you should install Office on each RepliGo Worker machine. See the

“ Installing Microsoft Office 2007 for document conversion ” section for moreinformation.

Guidelines for determining your configurationUse the following guidelines to help in deciding which configuration to use.

• Most situations will operate effectively in the simplest standaloneconfiguration with RepliGo Server installed on the same machine as BES.

• If the load on your BES is high, you may wish to consider one of the otheroptions. The load level depends on a number of factors such as the number of users and their level of activity. If your BES serves more than 200 users thenyou may benefit by moving RepliGo Server onto a dedicated machine.

• While the clustered configuration gives you optimal performance andscalability, it also increases the solution complexity and management. Ingeneral, when the number of RepliGo users is less than 1000, you are betterusing one of the standalone configurations.

Advanced Configurations

• If you have very high document usage then you may want to consider usingmultiple RepliGo Workers. This will allow you to scale to whatever yourdocument load levels require.

• A single RepliGo Server should only service multiple BlackBerry EnterpriseServers if they are all geographically co-located and on the same physicalnetwork. Using a RepliGo Server that is not on the same physical network asthe BES will incur network delays, increasing document response times.

Note Most Blackberry environments can operate effectively using a single RepliGoServer, configured to run locally or remotely to BES. The clusteredconfiguration is only recommended for Blackberry environments with very highdocument demands. If you are considering installing RepliGo Server using theclustered configuration, please contact Cerience Technical Support to ensurethat the solution is optimally designed for your environment.
