TITLE Machine workshop report OBJECTIVE Make a block of aluminium into a piston shape with hexagon and gear using lathe and milling machine. Understood about the operation of lathe machine. Know about the safety when handling the machines. INTRODUCTION LATHE MACHINE Lathe is a machine tool which rotates the workpiece on its axis to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling or deformation with tools that are applied to the workpiece to create an object which has symmetry about an axis of rotation. Ornamental lathes can produce three-dimensional solid of incredible complexity. The material can be held place by either one or two centers, at least one of which can be move horizontally to accommodate varying material lengths. Other workholding methods include clamping the work about the axis of rotation using chuck or collet, or to a faceplate, using clamp. MILLING MACHINE A milling machine is a machine tool used to machine solid materials. Milling machines are often classed in to basic form, horizontal and vertical, which refers to the orientation of the main spindle. Both types range in size from small, bench-mounted devices to room-sized machine. Milling machine also move the workpiece radially against the rotating milling cutter, which cuts on its sides as well as its tip. Workpiece and cutter movement are precisely controlled to less than 0.001 in (0.025 mm), usually by means of precision ground slides and leadscrew or analogous technology. Milling machine may be manually operated, mechanically automated, or digitally automated. Milling machine can perform a vast number of operations, from simple

INTRODUCTION

Milling machine also move the workpiece radially against the rotating milling cutter, which cuts on its sides as well as its tip. Milling machine may be manually operated, mechanically automated, or digitally automated. Milling machine can perform a vast number of operations, from simple (e.g. slot, and keyway cutting, planning, drilling) to complex (e.g. contouring, diesinking ).cutting fluid is often pumped to the cutting site to cool and lubricate the cut and to wash away the resulting swarf.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

i. Handle machine with care and safely.ii. Use safety equipment when working on a machine.

iii. Use vernier caliper precisely to measure workpiece.

1.LATHE MACHINE

i. Set the lathe machine.ii. Array block on the sides.

iii. Find the size of 80 cm for long.iv. Make the diameter of the block into 37 cm.v. Array the block into 32 cm in diameter for 50 cm.

vi. Make a hole using driller.vii. Array the center of the block into 20 cm in diameter for 30 cm long using special tool bit.

viii. Make some chamfers at side of the block.

2.Milling machine (angle)

i. Set the milling machine.ii. Make a hexagon with 20 cm long at the 37 cm diameter side.

iii. Find the length of each side hexagon for 18.5 cm.

3.Milling machine (side)

i. Set the milling machine.ii. To find the rotation of the gear teeth, use 16T

iii. Using formula 40/N. insert 40/16 and the answer is 2 ½ rotation for each gear teeth.iv. The height of the teeth is 3.6 while the length is 20.v. Make a gear.

vi. Project finished put our student id on it.
