England

England presented the Mouthlock Centre, an Activity Centre for vulnerable students,

due to social, parental issues. This centre helps vulnerable multicultural students and

or those who have some kind of special needs. There they were all mixed together in a

quite inclusive environment, facing team building activities. They could socialize and at

the same time have new experiences otherwise impossible to undergo.

Therefore, students were able to go on field trips, do physical exercise, such as

walking, canoeing or dinghy sailing.

They visited The Magna Museum.

Students learnt about science and even built a DNA bracelet, many still keep it as a

valuable reminder.

Investigation was highlighted and curiosity was thus arisen.

Finally, actions involving pets were promoted. Physically, mentally handicapped

students or with autism benefitted from the interaction with qualified therapy dogs.

Portugal

EB 2,3 Dr. Correia Mateus (collège)

This Portuguese school presented a video on the topic Body Building in which students

were dancing traditional Portuguese folklore, but this time danced to the sound of

Polish music. Happiness, well being, cultural awareness could be seen on each student

face.

This school work focused on the topic of healthy choices: sports and the (non-) use of

addictive substances and healthy eating.

Domingos Sequeira (lycée)

This secondary Portuguese school presented a

field trip to the river and a Water Mill,

nowadays open as a museum where students

learn how to produce recycled paper. This

activity intended to explore human

connections to the local river, promote

environmental awareness, learn how to

manufacture paper by recycling different types

of material and eventually create new pieces of

art.

Italy Italy team presented the benefits

of healthy habits, such as healthy

eating. Travelling with a plate was

one the topics, in which students

had to search for information

about typical food. Concerning

this, they were set to learn the

benefits of the Mediterranean Diet

and link healthy habits to certain

geographic areas.

This presentation showed that

students were led to understand

how healthy habits such as practising

sports, breathing nature is important to Human Body and Mind.

Day 4

8th June

Evaluation

Fabrice Tondeur asked all teachers in the room to express their opinion on this Body

Plus Erasmus Project in terms of students experiences/mobilities and what could be

done to improve these projects functioning.

Poland said it was their first programme of this kind they were part of. Teachers

gradually played along.

Students enjoyed the mobilities. It was nice way to travel, learn, see new things, have

new experiences, make friends...

Romania conveyed a very positive idea of how this project influenced their students.

It united differences in a very remarkable way. Students previously expressed their

concerns about age gaps. They understood they had to compromise (...) and became

more responsible as they had to take care of younger children.

Portugal expressed students opinions. They were pleased to have the possibility to be

part of such programme. They worked hard to produce the results demanded. They

tried different sports. It was good for them and they learnt a lot. It was the first time

they had this kind of experience, and it was an opportunity they eagerly grabbed and

they will not forget it. It was a great opportunity to cooperate with others. Schools

accepted long mobilities quite well. Putting Arts and Physical education together was a

very interesting achieved goal.

UK - England - Teachers said it was difficult to start with the project. To improve things

further, each country should be clear about what they would do, so that there would

be no misunderstandings.

Italy expressed the students satisfaction towards this programme. "It's a good idea!".

Families were happy to host Romanian children. "Besides socializing we could produce

work on this project." The work improved throughout the last 3 years.

France informed the group that kids reports were built by sharing it with their parents.

It went on very well.

In terms of this project diffusion everybody agreed that we can go further. Although

the blog was a good means of diffusing the work done, teams agreed that other ways

could be used- social media, local media, boards, tv presentations...

Finally, in terms of management and school community participation, it was said that

it was difficult to get people to help and get involved, but the manager was always

available.

Distance hasn´t made it easier despite all means of communication available

nowadays. Sudden changes in teams and the distance between all teams and the

manager made it often very difficult and confusing. Sometimes new teams found it

hard to have a clear view of what was needed. Maybe everyone needed to have a clear

idea of the whole project in mind. Some complained about timings. Deadlines were set

but the needed information wasn´t there on time.

On the other hand, gathering information, working on the great amount of work

produced was sometimes difficult.

To overcome some of these problems it would be essential to have a national

coordinator helping along.

To sum up, this project enabled unforgettable life experiences to students involved,

while promoting cooperation, friendship - healthy habits to live in a global

multicultural society.
