In 21st century, people expect to create sustainable society where they can live in safety and security with rich welfare as well as material wealth, as a basis for fostering diverse culture.

For this purpose, it is required to further improve, not only social asset technologies related to water/food, energy, transportation, information etc., but also operational tools such as institutional systems which are use to support our social life, such as social technology science with an expanded view on social receptivity and wellbeing.

This is the social mission assigned to engineering in 21st century, and fulfillment of this mission will require not only innovation of each advanced technology, but also integration of technologies of advance design technologies for optimizing total system of society, and reinforcement of science-driven innovation capability which is pursued from integrated perspectives of natural science and social science,

From this standpoint of the 21st century’s social mission and challenges of engineering, WECC2015 will assemble industrial circles, academic societies, governmental authorities, and public citizens from around the world, and will contribute to consolidate the innovation networks to link intellectual creation and societal value creation.

WECC2015 Vision ( as of September 2012 )

Program design aims to provide a balanced perspective between local and

global interests, with focuses on innovation required for achieving

sustainable growth together with the advances in key technologies required

for the innovation.

Participation from Government-Academia-Industry-NPO

Government: International + National + Municipalities

Academia: Engineering+ Medical + Agriculture + Economy +Society

Industry: Large enterprises + medium and small firms

Public: Dialogue with citizens and children/ youth

Based on the fundamental concept of Engineering for Society, WECC2015

places an emphasis on the both sides of;

“Innovation” which engineering communities are challenging

“Key Technologies research and development” challenged by

engineers and researchers for establishing the basis of the innovation
