REPORT ON DHAMMA DIPA SCHOOL , TRIPURA, INDIA

I am very pleased to state that DDS has completed five (5) years of its operation successfully with the blessings of His Holiness The Dalai Lama on the 5th Anniversary celebration of the school. As the time is incessantly moving ahead, the all round developmental activities of DDS is also scaling up step by step towards its FINAL SHAPE of an IDEAL INSTITUTION with full fledged infrastructure in every aspect and competent in all fronts to contribute to the development of a contented, peaceful & harmonious world.

It is not uncommon to encounter the fierce waves of adversities, but at times, it appears to be extremely difficult to subdue. For last few months we had been waging a war against all odds, difficulties, problems and challenges on various developmental fronts of DDS. However, the DDS Foundation is firm, unshakable and we are moving ahead towards its goal with strong determination, commitment and devotion.

The Academy performance of DDS during the Academic Session 2006 – 07 is as shown below:

ACADEMIC SESSION 2007 -08

The new Academic Session 2007 – 08 began on the 2nd April 2007 with an upgraded standard of class – VII. We are running from Class KG - I to Class – VII (Total 9 classes) in the current academic year. The scope of our activities is had also been expanded. We have initiated to develop Traditional Herbal Medicinal Research – cum- Treatment Centre at DDS. We are also planning to start short term training courses on Rural Technology for unemployed rural youths under DHAMMA DIPA INSTITUTE OF RURAL TECHNOLOGY. As Tripura is affected by malaria and the interior villages are deprived of medicine facilities, I am playing with the idea of starting a DISPENSARY – CUM – MOBILE HOSPITAL. Please suggest me on this matter. We have acquired a plot of land for the above mentioned proposed project, but having some problem with the State Govt. I hope it will be sorted out soon with the support of local people.

The strength of students and staffs is provided below:

IMPORTANT ISSUE:

As we are upgrading by one Class every year, we need to get affiliated to CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi) otherwise our students will not be allowed to appear in the Secondary (Class – X ) Board Examination. We are trying to develop infrastructure as per the guidelines of the Board, specially classrooms, salary, Provident Fund etc. Though there are endless obstacles, DDS is functioning well and hope to make it one of the best institution in Tripura.

Communication received by Asha Stamford in Sept 2007

We had convened a joint meeting of the Governing Body Trustees of Bahujana Hitaya Education Trust and members of DDS Management Committee, on the 26th August 2007 at DDS Complex to discuss about achievement, problems, developmental prospect, infrastructure requirement, project proposal etc. The proposal for construction of Semi-Permanent classrooms had also been discussed in the meeting. All the members present had opined and agreed to have an OBB Pattern classroom building instead of Semi-permanent bamboo made classrooms. An OBB Pattern building for 4 classrooms will cost approx. Rs. 3,84,000/- = USD 9600. The estimated cost for the proposed OBB Pattern classroom building is provided below for your kind information:

As all the STATE BANK OF INDIA branches had core banking facility, it will be easier and faster

if you kindly send ASHA’s generous contribution by WIRE MONEY TRANSFER. The above

project cost estimate for construction of an OBB Pattern building is placed before ASHA FOR

EDUCATION for your kind consideration.

At present we are having 6 pucca (building) classrooms, 2 semi-permanent classrooms, and 3

temporary classrooms made of bamboo and straw. The temporary classrooms are no more useable.

As we have total 10 classes now from Class KG-I to Class- VII including section A & B, and 2

rooms are used as computer center and library, more number of classrooms are required

immediately. We’ll be very grateful if any ASHA chapter extends help to solve the prevailing

classroom problem at DDS.

Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Be Happy!
