Compared with other editions, NHW 2014 has increased the
quality and number of organizations involved. The beginning
of the preparations of the event commenced during the

Moldova and 3 people from the TDV were trained in Lodz,
Poland, by FERSO. Photos distributed you can see here.
The knowledge and best practices derived from the 3 people from the TDV trained in Poland were
used in 5-day training conducted by TDV in the period of 28th of July to the 1st of August and
completed the event with the training of 23 volunteer-instructors. On the first day Oxana Ţurcanu

fashionable", which was later presented at a
concert. In both camps was held the contest "The best drawing to promote a healthy lifestyle." The
winners received diplomas and awards from the TDV Association. The works can be seen here and

materials were provided this year by the Center for Health Policies and Studies (PAS Center). The
photos distributed you can see here and here.
The 16 coordinators of volunteers from various NGOs and central authorities in Moldova, trained in
Poland, organized a total of 14 events with 19 health activities that were held during the week
according to the NHW 2014 Calendar. The NHW activities are shown in the chapter entitled "Activities
organized within NHW 2014, on districts" in the present report. They were joined by two other civil
society organizations (CSOs) who each one of them has achieved one event, one of which is the
subsidiary TDV Balti.
What is NHW 2014 in figures?
In total, during the NHW 2014 have been organized 17 events with 142 activities in 2 cities (Chisinau
and Balti) and 8 districts (Falesti, Ialoveni, Nisporeni, Orhei, Rezina, Riscani, Straseni and Soldanesti).
There were involved as partners 18 local authorities, 33 civil society organizations, 17 trade
organizations and 20 local media partners. The event was attended by 4375 people as direct
beneficiaries and 2592 visitors in total 6967 persons.
In the NHW 2014 there were involved 204 volunteers who have done 2397 hours of volunteering
labor for which the cost is 23 394.72 MDL. The labor cost calculations were made based on the
guaranteed minimum wage in the economy of 1 650 MDL calculated for a full working 169 hours per
month, so 1650: 169 = 9.76 MDL / hour. For 2397 hours, the amount of work done by the volunteers
is 23 394.72 MDL = 2397 hours x 9.76 MDL / hour.
8
In organizing events were involved 32 sponsors and donors. The sponsorship and funding amount was
66 218.47 MDL of which 59 908.47 MDL contributions in cash and in-kind contributions 6 310 MDL
(various products). 5415 promotional materials were used which cost 12 402 MDL. The total cost of
events was 102 015.19 MDL = 23 394.72 MDL (value of volunteer labor) + 66 218.47 MDL (value of
sponsorships and funding) + 12 402 MDL (cost of promotional materials). The largest contribution in
the amount of 50 433.47 MDL was provided by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of
Moldova (MTS), which funded the TDV.
In percentages the value of volunteer work accounted for 22.93% out of the total cost of NHW 2014,
the value of sponsorships and funding was 64.91% and the cost of promotional materials was 12.16%.
The value of sponsorship and funding was of 64.91% consists of the MTS funding 49.44%, and other
fundings and sponsorships were in the percentage of 15.47%. It can be seen that the value of
voluntary work is a contribution of almost half of the funding of MTS.
See the table below which includes quantitative data on events within the National Health Week
(NHW) 2014:
Value of volunteer labor 22.93 %
Value of sponsorships and funding others than MTS 15.47%
Value of funding by MTS 49.44 %
Cost of promotional materials 12.16%
If we exclude the cost of volunteer labor from the total cost of events we obtained for each of the
6967 people participating were spent 11.28 MDL / person = (102 015.19 MDL 102 – 23 394.72 MDL):
6967 persons, from MTS money being spent 7.23 MDL / person = 50 433.47 MDL : 6967 persons.
These charges are cost-effective, relative to to the fact that for a sick person is spent more money
being more cost-effective to prevent illness than to treat it, ignoring that each person will lose several
years of life too.

Activities organized within the NHW 2014 by districts
Municipality of Balti
8th of August: The collection of used syringes from public spaces.
The event took place in Balti and included the cemetery
and surroundings near the City Hospital and nearby
basements. A team of employees, volunteers and
beneficiaries collected the used syringes in compliance
with safety and hygiene regulations in force during 2
hours, materials contaminated with blood or body fluids
thrown in public places populated or sparsely populated,
including more than 700 syringes, which were stored in
special packaging and then destroyed by incineration.
12
The action was to prevent accidental infection of people with
syringes discarded by drug users in public with parenterally
transmitted diseases (through needles), such as hepatitis, HIV,
etc. On this occasion the organizers have warned people that it's
very important to pay attention to infectious wastes and to
report any improper storage, to prevent infection of humans and
environmental degradation.
The activity was conducted by the TDV Association, Balti subsidiary. More photos can be found here.
10th of August: Exchange a cigarette for an apple
The event was conducted in the square Vasile Alecsandri, Balti. Volunteers started the campaign in
the hope that they will be able to change the mentality of smokers. The volunteers shared apples to
passersby and warned about the harm of smoking. The aim of the work was to highlight the harmful
effects of smoking and also the importance of choices that people decide to take.
In addition to the exchange of a cigarette for an
apple within the organized campaign included a
research component, which by its completion,
allowed to assess the knowledge, attitudes and
practices regarding general health culture as a
whole. The sample include a total of 150 people,
108 men (72%) and 32 women (38%). Distribution
by age group in the sample shows that 26% of the
sample is 18 to 30 years, 55.33% have between 30
and 45 years, 18.67% over 45 years. One in three
people in the population included in the group are
smokers; 28.57% of the women surveyed said they
smoke, the figure is even more significant among men - 67.74% of the respondents are smokers.
The indicator for the age distribution shows a larger gap and thus the vice of smoking is present in
64.10% among young people between 18 and 30 years, 43.10% of people between the age of 30-45
years smoke and only 16.90% in the past 45 years are smokers. The data is even more alarming
considering the fact that smokers are more predisposed to developing pulmonary pathologies,
cardiovascular and neurological ones ignore in proportion of 85% the annual medical check. The
developed campaign was proved to be very successful, as participants in the survey, sharing apples,
were very open and involved.
The activities were organized by the Centre for Socio-Medical Assistance at Home "CASMED". Please
