REPORTERS NEWS Tudor Hall 4-H Club Report January 18, 2019 Submitted By: Pheobe-Tate Anderson Our club held our January meeting at the St. Mary s County Fairgrounds on January 18, 2019.Our before meeting activity was to make sock valentines for the Wildwood Nursing Center, Discovery Commons. We also did a STEM activity making foil boats and seeing which groups could hold the most pennies without sinking. Our meeting was called to order at 8:15, the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Joe Beale and the 4-H Pledge was led by Austin Graves. Demonstration topics for this meeting were Rabbits, Hobbies, and Photography. Lydia Ec- cleston presented a demonstration on, How to Show Rabbits. We discussed the following Old Business at our club meeting: Rescue Squad gift basket do- nation, Livestock knowledge practice on Jan. 4 th , Officers training on Jan. 5 th , Horse project interest meeting on Jan. 8 th , Steer Weigh-In on Jan. 12 th 9-10am, Volunteer social on Jan. 12 th , Senior 4-her portfolios due to state 4-h office for out-of-state trips by January 15 th , 2018 Dimond Clover reports due January 15 th , Holiday Workshop, County roller skating so- cial, Club jackets, and Club plans for the year. We discussed the following New Business at our club meeting: our friend of 4-H for 2018, 2019 Youth Conservationist Program, 4-H Member enrollment due by January 31 st , need for volunteers including help for record book judging, robotics, crochet helpers, public speaking, livestock guest speaker, photography, sewing helpers, small pet care, videos, and Shooting sports. We also discussed the leaders meeting, volunteer hours, Maryland 4-H Gala Jan. 20 th was cancelled, Livestock knowledge practice Feb. 1 st 6-8pm, Ear orders due by Feb. 1 st , Dairy Skillathon on Feb. 9 th at 9:30 am at Carroll County Agriculture Center, MD 4-H dog Skillathon on Feb. 10 th at 1pm at UMD, St. Mary s County Skillathon on Feb. 16 th at St. Marys County Fairgrounds from 9am – 1pm, SOMD Robotics Competition on Feb. 16 th at 9am at the Charles County Extension Office, Public Speaking Workshop on March 8 th at the Conference Center in Leonardtown from 6:00-7:30pm, St. Mary s County 4-H Public Speak- ing Contest on March 29 th at 4-H Office Conference room from 6-8pm, and the Annual 4-H Banquet on March 16 th . Thank you to Kyle Russell for bringing snacks and Patricia Krohn for bringing drinks. At the next meeting, snacks will be from Ryleigh Vallandingham and drinks from Sydney Rus- sell. Our club held our January meeting at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds on January 18, 2019.Our before meeting activity was to make sock valentines for the Wildwood Nursing Center, Discovery Commons. The February meeting was called to order at 6:45pm on February 15th. The Pledge of

Allegiance was said by Hannah Wathen and the 4-H Pledge was said by Derek VanRyswick.

The roll call question was “What is your Favorite color”? Minutes of the last meeting were

accepted by Matthew VanRyswick and 2nd by Joe Beale. The treasurer’s report was accepted

by Trent Vallandingham and 2nd by Delia Vallandingham. The topic for demonstrations for

this meeting were crafts and goats. Next meeting is Visual Arts, Sheep, and Food.

Old Business St. Mary’s County 4-H Skillathon, February 16 th from 9:00am – 1pm at the St.

Mary’s County fairgrounds, Southern Maryland Robotics Competition, February 16 th at 9:00at

the Charles County Extension Office, Bel Alton, MD. Livestock Knowledge Practice, Febru-

ary 22nd from 6-8pm at the Ag Service Center Conf. room, Maryland 4-H Horsemen’s Party

on February 21st at 3pm at the Laurel Racetrack. Horse Power Hour on February 25th from 6-

8pm at the Ag Services Center Conference room. Military Partner Updates February 28 th from

9:30am-1:30pm at the Ag Library in College Park, the Maryland 4-H Livestock Skillathon

Contest on March 2nd at 8am. Horse Power Hour on March 4th from 6-8pm at the Ag Services

Center, the Public Speaking Workshop is on March 8 th from 6-8pm.Horse Power Hour is on

March 11th from 6-8pm,the 2019 Dimond Clover Level 1-5 plans are due on March 15th at

4:30 at the 4-H Office.

New Business We decided on our Friend of 4-H for 2018, gift idea, and read presentation at

banquet. Need for volunteers including help with: Record book judging, robotics, crochet

helpers, public speaking, livestock guest speaker, photography, sewing helpers, small pet care,

videos, and shooting sports. Ear tag orders due February 1st. Annual 4-H banquet on March

16th at 5:30 at SAYSF Church California Maryland-helpers needed. Maryland 4-H Dairy Skil-

lathon-Trent and Delia attended.

After the meeting we made cards for Sending Smiles and collected nonperishable food and personal hygiene items for Helping Hands. Our next meeting is on March 15 th at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds at 6:30pm. Thank you to Ryleigh Vallandingham for snacks and Sydney Russell for Drinks. For our next meeting Tabor Absher has snacks and Ayden and Alexis Strand have drinks.

The February meeting was adjourned at 7:55.

The Tudor Hall 4-H Club held our March meeting on March 15, 2019. Our meeting was called to order at 7:10pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ethan Beale and the 4-H pledge was said by Lilly Arnold. For this meeting we passed around the roll call. The minutes were read and accepted by Joe Beale and 2nd by Hannah Wathen and the treasur-er’s report was read and accepted by Ethan Beale and 2nd by Ada Schumaker. The demon-stration topics for this meeting were Visual Arts, Sheep, and Food. For this meeting we had two demonstrations given and they were given by Aiden and Alexis strand. Aiden did his on the saws you use for different woodworking projects and Alexis did hers on quilting. Old Business For Old Business we discussed the St. Mary’s County 4-H Skillathon, Southern Maryland Robotics Competition, Livestock Knowledge Practice, Maryland 4-H Horseman’s Party, Horse Power Hour, Military Partner Updates, Maryland 4-H Livestock Skillathon Contest, Horse Power Hour, and Public Speaking Workshop. New Business 4-H jackets, volunteer hours, Paper Clover Fundraiser, Public Speaking Contest, 2018 Friend of 4-H, 2019 Diamond Clover Plans, Record Book forms, Bowling on April 6 th from 6-8pm, Leaders Meeting and Newtown Neck Park Clean Up on April 13 th from 9-12. After meeting activity: Members made earrings for the 4-H Banquet Door Prize Table. Next Meeting: April 12th @ 6:30pm at the Ag Services Building in Leonardtown. The Tudor Hall 4-H Club’s May meeting was on the 17 th at 6:30pm. We got together at the St. Mary’s County Fair Grounds. We had several activities. The older 4-Hers learned about archery. Each participant received instruction on right and left dominance, how to properly hold a bow, how to insert arrows into the bow properly, correct aim, and shooting. The younger 4-Hers made catapults from popsicle sticks, bottle caps and rubber bands.

There were several announcements and a snack. The next meeting is on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 6:30pm at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds.

Our club held our July meeting at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds on July 19, 2019.Our before meeting activity was to make stress balls with flour and balloons. Thank you to Emmy & Caroline Allred for showing us how to make them. We also made rockets and shot them off for Alexis and Aden strands demonstration. Our meeting was called to order at 7:23, the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Trent Vallandingham and the 4-H Pledge led by Emmy Allred. Demonstrations for this meeting were by Sophie and Pheobe-Tate they talked about how to sheer a sheep they also talked about their swine project and their demonstration for swine was about your pigs diet and there digestive system. Weylin Jr (W) did his swine demonstration on how to prepare a pig throughout the year. The last demonstration was said by Matthew Van Ryswick and his topics were Bees and Rabbits. For his bee demonstration he talked about the hive and the comb. For his rabbits he talked about fun facts about his rabbits. We discussed the following Old Business at our club meeting: Day camp July 8-12 at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds, overnight Camp June 30 th-july 3rd in western MD, July 6 th was the state 4-H Horse Communications Contest, July 12 th was the Home and Farm Safety Day, July 17th was the 4-h online New Volunteer Orientation. We discussed the following New Business at our club meeting: Leaders meeting, Volunteer hours, July 21st was the State Counsel Meeting, July 31st was the state fair Entry Deadline, Ju-ly 31st is the Online Animal Husbandry and Quality Assurance Program closes, July-August statewide 4h Dairy Judging Practice, August 2nd Dimond Clover Level six plans are due to the county office 2020,August 5th 4h club Leaders meeting, August 9 th St.Marys County 4H Fair entries due, August 15 th at 6:30 Online new 4H volunteer orientation, August 23- September 2 MD State Fair, lastly we talked about the float, banner, Booth, and a tee shirt for the fair. Thank you to Kyle Russell for snacks and Cathy Kershaw & Trent, Delia & Levi Val-landingham for drinks. The next meeting is on August 16th at 6:30pm at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds.

Tudor Hall 4-H Club held our August meeting at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds on Au-gust 16, 2019. Our meeting was called to order at 7:46, the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Emmy Allred and the 4-H Pledge led by Rickey Arnold.

Pheobe-Tate Anderson presented demonstrations on Her Historic St. Mary’s City Costume for her Service Learning and Public Speaking projects. Matthew VanRyswick presented demon-stration for his Gardening project.

We discussed the following Old Business at our club meeting: Maryland 4-H Volunteer Awards nominations available, 24 hours, online on August 1 st , Diamond Clover Level Six plans for 2020 are due to the County 4-H office at 4:30pm on August 2nd, Fox Five Zip Trip 5am at Leonardtown square on August 2nd, Aerospace workshop 9am – 4pm at the Fair-grounds on August 15 th.

We discussed the following New Business at our Club meeting: Leaders Meeting, Volunteer Hours, We discussed T-shirts for our club, Mini Maryland Thoroughbred Careers Program session three on August 17th, St. Mary’s County 4-H Fair entry’s due by 4:30 online on Au-gust 18th, Maryland State Fair from August 23rd – September 2nd, Livestock Project Meeting at 6pm at the Ag. Tudor Hall 4-H Club held the October meeting at the Agricultural Services Center on October 18th, 2019.Our before meeting activity was to do a Skill-a-Thon Knowledge Quiz. Our meet-ing was called to order at 7:11, the Pledge of Allegiance led by Trent Vallandingham and the 4-H Pledge led by Kyle Russell.

Demonstration topics for this meeting were for any project you have not done a demonstration for this year. Matthew VanRyswick did demonstrations for his Aerospace Pro-ject on a model rocket. He also did one for his Creative Hobbies and Crafts on how to make a Lego kit, what colors to use when you paint a bird house, and how he painted a glass bottle from a kit. Emily Gale did a Swine Demonstration on how to show a pig in a show ring. Wey-lin Anderson Jr. did a demonstration on how to do oil pastel art for his Visual Arts project. Sa-rah Beale did an Illustrated talk on leadership for her Leadership Project.

We discussed the following Old Business at our Club meeting: St. Mary ’s County Fair,

State 4-H Archery Match was on September 28th, 4-H Dairy Judging Team trip was on Sep-tember 29th, National 4-H Week was from October 7 th-12th, 4-H Online New Volunteer Orien-tation was on October 8 th, National 4-H Youth Science Day was on October 9th, National Jun-ior Horticultural Association State 4-H Horticulture team in Lincoln, Nebraska was from Oc-tober 11th-14th, 4-H office was closed on October 14th, Senior 4-H Portfolios due to state 4-H Office for the 2019 National 4-H Conference.

We discussed the following New Business at our club meeting: Fall Paper Clover Days

bake sale in Charlotte Hall from 10-2 on October 20th, Record Book Workshop, State 4-H Shotgun Match, 4-H Open House on 10/28, Level 5 Diamond Clover Reports Due; 4-H Alum-ni & Volunteer Family potluck. They need people to help set up at 11:00 on December 8 th for the Quarter Auction , 4-H insurance, Beef Roast at McKay’s in Leonardtown on November 3rd from 12- 1, Volunteer forum on November 16th, Holiday Workshop on December 13 th, Friend of 4-H for 2019, MD 4-H State Council Applications Due to 4-H Office, MD 4-H Dog Bowl Contest, National 4-H Congress 11/22-26, Leaders Meeting, Volunteer Hours. Thank you to Callen and Evelyn Weeden for snacks and Caroline and Emmy Allred for drinks next meeting snacks are from the Layman family and drinks from the Gale family. The next meeting is on November 15 th at 6:30pm at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds.

The December meeting of the Tudor Hall 4-H Club was called to order at 6:55pm on December 27, 2019. Our before meeting activity was to eat the Christmas potluck that we had decided on at the last meet-ing. The Pledge of Allegiance was said by W. Anderson and the 4-H pledge was said by Sarah Beale. The minutes of the last meeting were accepted by Hannah Wathen and seconded by Ayden Strand.

The demonstrations for the meeting are as follows; Eli Schumacher – “How to make a knife”, Alexis Strand – “Crafting”, “How to take a photograph of a moving object”, “Growing Tomatoes”, and “Woodworking”, Ayden Strand – “String Art”, “How to make a clay ani-mal”, “Gardening” and “Photography”, Patricia Krohn – “EPM” and Thomas Gale – “How to correctly wash your goat”.

The Old Business we discussed this meeting was the Holiday Work-shop sponsored by our club and the 4-H Quarter Auction was a success! The New Business for this meeting is as follows: volunteer hours, Out-standing Livestock Exhibitor award and Officers Training is on January 4th. Our New officers are President – Ethan Beale, Vice President – Derek Van Ryswick, Secretary – Matthew Van Ryswick, Treasurer – Emily Gale, Reporter – Trent Vallandingham, Historian – Emmy Allred and Sargent of Arms – W. Anderson. We then exchanged secret Santa gifts and adjourned at 8:01pm
