This time each year I know my husband Doug will be looking forward to March Madness. He enjoys college basketball and March Madness is their big tournament.

Here at St. Luke’s we also have a lot to look forward to in March. The call committee has been appointed and will be meeting with Pastor Kris Totzke who works with the call process for our synod. And we also begin our Lenten journey.

I give thanks for all the leaders here at St. Luke’s, including Church Council. We had an excellent retreat on Saturday, Feb. 18, and I look forward to working with them in the months to come. Please continue to pray for the Church Council, the Call Committee and all other leaders at St. Luke’s.

Pastor Mary Kaiser

The Men’s Breakfast will continue to meet on the 4th Saturday of each month. This month we will meet on March 25th at 8:30 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn on 190 just east of Waterview Dr.

Booksome Ladies

On Wednesday, March 15th, the Booksome Ladies will meet in the Adult Classroom at 9:30 a.m. Our book for discussion is The Nightingale by Kristin Han-nah. This work of historical fiction tells the story of two French sisters –one in Paris and one in the country-side—during World War Two. Both young women had been adversely effected by the death of their mother and the estrange-ment of their father. Each plays a part in the French under-ground. Each finds a way to love and forgive. The novel is historically accurate and is filled with drama and romance as it explores the rela-tionship of the two sisters as they face great challenges and moral choices. It is haunting, action-packed and compelling. It is an absolute page-turner you will not forget. EVERYONE IS WELCOME to come for an interesting discussion and genuine fellowship.

As St. Luke’s celebrates our 60th year, we will share some stories that hopefully you find interesting and will give insight as to how we have grown together over the years. These stories will be called “Did you know.”

Did you know…….

In the fall of 1956, the first formational meetings for a new LCA Mission Church were held at Wildwood Chapel at Restland, a Community Hall on Tejas Trail, and the Heights Elementary cafeteria.

In the mid 70’s, the Sr. High Luther League put on a Passion Play with music from Alice Cooper and other hard rock musicians. Do you remem-ber that Bob Tober portrayed Jesus?

St. Luke’s has sponsored several athletic teams through the years. We have had girl’s and boy’s basketball teams; youth, adult, senior, same-sex and co-ed softball teams; co-ed volleyball teams and co-ed bowling. Some say that Lutheran’s are quiet, but there has been more than one member, and even clergy, ejected from a game due to “enthusiastic cheer-ing and support”.
