Thanks to the insensitive electricity department, which cut down the tree near Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital. I request the power department to be more sensitive towards such trees which stand as an obstacle in power lines. When I told the contractor why he is not completing the job, he told me it’s not his responsibility and someone who does cement work will do it. I request the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to ensure that quality repair work is conducted. — Sandeep Chatterjee LURKING DANGER: The photo clicked at Kushaiguda industrial area shows how electrical transformers are not covered with panel boards. Neither there is fencing around the transformer. I request the authorities to cover such open transformers before the onset of monsoon to avoid danger from power fluctuations. Rajesh Vamsharaj ANAND NAGAR COLONY: BAD ROADS BUMPY ROAD: The shoddy restoration work by the Water Board and power utilities has left gaping holes on roads and has made walking and driving on such roads a nightmare in Anand Nagar Colony. I request authorities to immediately conduct repairs. — Suresh Subramanium TATA Projects, one of India’s fastest growing and most admired infrastructure companies on Tuesday launched Green Thumb – an initiative to enhance the green cover across the country. Green Thumb 2017, is in continuation to TATA Projects’ previous year’s initiative wherein it aimed to get 10,000 people to pledge to plant a sapling on their behalf. GHMC inspects restoration Dr B Janardhan Reddy, commissioner, GHMC directed the engineering officials of the GHMC and HMWS&SB to expedite the restoration works keeping in view the onset of monsoon. Officials of the department made a surprise visit to inspect the ongoing works. During the visit, the officials inspected LB Nagar X Roads, Sitara hotel, Chinthal Kunta Check post, Autonagar, Huda Sainagar colony, etc. Ex-judge lauds govt’s efforts Justice Kailash Gambhir, a retired judge of Delhi High Court on Tuesday appreciat- ed the efforts made by the state government and the NGOs for providing shelter for urban homeless. Speak- ing at a convergence meet- ing of various line depart- ments today, he asked the officials to regularly visit the shelters to ensure that they are run as per the guidelines of the National Urban Livelihood Mission. ‘GST on texiles unfortunate’ President of the Telangana State Federation of Textile Association on Tuesday said that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) imposed on textiles was unfortunate. He asserted that textiles were earlier exempted from GST and the sudden imposition of taxes would lead to a cascading effect on prices, from a consumer’s point of view. If you seek fame, attach your photograph Open drains at OGH T here are some open drains in the Osmania General Hospital, just beside the Afzalgunj police station, which have become a cause of serious concern. They were opened by municipal workers for some repairs recently and have been left unattended since then. For the past 10 days or so they have been in this condition. Patients walk along this path regularly and if anyone happens to accidentally fall into these Nizam era sewer lines, they are sure to suffer grave head injuries. In fact, it can also become fatal and cost someone his/her life. It is in the interest of patients that I sincerely urge the concerned authorities to get this area barricaded immediately, before some untoward incident takes place. — Dr Manonmani Mahadevi No platform for MMTS at Sec’bad station L akhs of people in the city are dependent on the MMTS service. Yet, there is no platform fixed for these trains at the Secunderabad railway station. The railway authorities constantly keep changing the platform, thus causing severe inconvenience to passengers, especially those with luggage and children. I, therefore, request the concerned authorities to please address this issue and allocate a platform for these trains so that passengers availing this service can enjoy a smooth ride. — Satheesh Kumar Incomplete bridge work needs attention R ecently while travelling from Rajendranagar, through the Chandrayangutta-Bandlaguda Road, I noticed that vehicles are plying through a diversion for more than a kilometre as the authorities are yet to complete the repair work of the culvert and bridge at Bandlaguda. This small work has been left unattended for the last couple of years, thanks to complete lack of initiation by local leaders. The road is full of dirt and dust, which results in severe pollution and affect locals. The diversion also leads to added loss of fuel and time for road users. I request the authorities to at least take up the left over work now and immediately complete it so that the health and time of people here can be saved. — P Narahari WEATHER Sunrise: Thursday : 05:41hrs Sunset: Wednesday: 18:49 hrs Moonrise: Wednesday: 16:14 hrs Moonset: Wednesday : 03:26 hrs Forecast: Generally cloudy sky, one or two spells of rain or thundershowers likely. The court earlier directed revenue, HMDA and munici- pal officials to stop all const- ructions, including those be- ing built by a realty firm ‘Pri- de India Builders’. The bench of Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganat- han and Justice T Rajani re- sumed the hearing in this PIL filed by Namram Reddy of De- vatalagutta Parirakshana Samiti seeking protection of 150 acres of government land. The bench constituted a committee to inquire into the matter and made its judicial registrar as the head of this committee. The report con- firmed that huge amount of il- legal structures have come up in the government land. Y Rama Rao, the counsel for HMDA said that they too have across several irregularities. The bench in its earlier hea- ring questioned the inaction of the officials even in the midst of such huge construc- tion activity taking place on government land. The bench so- ught a reply from the officials on this contention. The peti- tioner contended that the en- tire extent in survey num- bers 78, 79 and 80 fall under conservation zone where no constructions are to be per- mitted. The police sought eight days custody of the trio. The sub-registrar was arrested for transfer- ring 607 acres of govern- ment land to private indi- viduals. Meanwhile, the petition moved by Miya- pur police for the custody of Kukatpally sub-regist- rar Rachakonda Srinivas Rao and Trinity Infra di- rectors Parthasarathi and PVS Sharma is expec- ted to give its ruling on Wednesday. One of the directors of the company is the relative of a senior IAS officer in Te- langana,” said sources in the police department. Miyapur scam: Cops get custody of sub-registrar TIMES NEWS NETWORK Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has questioned the ‘unnatural si- lence’ of the TRS government on the Miy- apur land scam where it said serious alle- gations were made against government officials along with the deputy chief mi- nister and other ministers. The party de- manded a CBI probe into the scam on the grounds that it involves over `1lakh crore. In a statement, BJP spokesperson Krishnasagar Rao said both the BJP and the people are surprised at the ‘unnatural silence’ of chief minister K Chandrasek- har Rao on the scam. “Governments elec- ted by people in a democracy are accoun- table and hence need to explain and clari- fy. Especially, when people suspect their own government’s involvement in an un- precedented land scam such as this one. In one way, the chief minister is accepting the complicity by not trying to even defend his government and his ministers,” the spokesperson said. TNN BJP wants CBI to probe Miyapur land scam Hyderabad: Incidence of Hepatitis B and C in the city is on a rise, warn gastroentero- logists and hepatologists. While this has been a trend for the last few years, the city is re- porting most of these cases from its peripheral rural and suburban belts, experts say. “This is caused through blood transfusions, unscree- ned blood, surgical procedu- res due to unsafe practices and use of unsterile needles by in- travenous drug users,” said Dr K Soma Sekhar Rao, chief of gastroentrology and hepa- tology, Apollo Hospital. That apart, unsafe sexual practices are also to be blamed for the in- creasing incidence in rural areas. Both the diseases are blo- od-borne viruses and often stay undetected for years and many chronic cases coming to the fore hint that the infection had stayed for a long time befo- re manifesting. Hepatitis B and C are both silent killers as they do not show any symp- toms until it reaches an advan- ced stage, doctors add. “With increasing incidences of both acute and chronic infections, viral hepatitis infection is emerging as a major health threat, Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana and Andh- ra Pradesh are now facing a ri- sing burden of the twin disea- ses — Hepatitis B and Hepati- tis C. Aggravating the threat is the fact that unlike Hepatitis A and B, there is no vaccine yet to prevent hepatitis C which can lead to chronic liver disea- ses if not treated in time,” ad- ded Rao. Although extensive rese- arch hasn’t been conducted to suggest exact numbers, ex- perts peg the incidence of He- patitis C at two per cent in ge- neral and up to 15 per cent in tribal areas surrounding the city and across the state. Also, experts believe that the increasing numbers are due to the increase in detec- tion of cases due to viral scree- ning being taken up at various levels. While the commonly followed test for the virus does not detect early cases (betwe- en 3 and 6 weeks), the nucleic acid assay test can detect early cases too. “All blood banks should follow the nucleic acid test to ensure early diagnosis. Also for dialysis the virus tests are hardly run, especial- ly when patients opt for cent- res offering dialysis at chea- per rates, it leads to many ca- ses of contracting the virus. Before every dialysis procedu- re the tests should be run,” suggested Dr Govind Verma, gastroenterologist and hepa- tologist, Pace Hospital. GHMC mayor Bonthu Rammohan said the idea behind the proposal is to re- duce environmental pollution and also promote usage of ma- nure at households. On Tuesday, the mayor inau- gurated a biodigester at a private hotel in Habsiguda which produ- ces manure and organic fertili- zers out of the hotel waste. Anot- her hotel at Abids is to set up the unit in a week's time. Later, spea- king at the Telangana Hotels As- sociation meeting, Rammohan said the municipal corporation would try to provide the vermi- compost unit at a subsidised pri- ce to hotels and apartments un- der the Swachh Bharat mission or other government schemes. The mayor said every day, 4500 metric tons of garbage is be- ing generated everyday in the GHMC limits of which more than 1,000 metric tons waste is being segregated as dry and wet separately. The GHMC is one of the few municipal corporations in the country that has provided a two bin system to its house- holds for segregation of dry and wet waste. In all, 44 lakh bins we- re provided. Now, the Centre has instructed all the 4,041municipa- lities in the country to imple- ment the two bin system as is be- ing done by the GHMC. Private corporates such as Godrej and ITC as well as Non-Governmen- tal Organizations and Self Help Groups have been working to bring about awareness among the people on segregation of was- te. The GHMC has provided 50 Dry Resource Centres for segre- gation purpose, the mayor said. “The cost of a vermicompost unit is around `2.5 lakh for a 50 kg unit being used by hotels. The In- dian Institute of Chemical Tech- nology (IICT), which provided the technology, has been asked to come up with small units of ca- pacities ranging from 5, 10 and 20 kg for households at lesser pri- ces. The vermicompost units would not only help the corpora- tion to reduce the cost of trans- portation of waste, but will also generate bio-gas and manure,” Rammohan said. According to him, the BJP government had released several thousands crores of rupees for various schemes in Telangana in the past three years. Speaking at a public mee- ting organized by the party at East Anandbagh on the comp- letion of three year’s of the NDA government at the cent- re, the union minister said the Centre had taken up mea- sures for reopening of Fertili- zer Corporation of India at Ramangundam at a cost of `5,200 crore. He said food parks at Khammam and Mah- bubnagar and a textile park at Warangal have been san- ctioned and measures have been initiated to reopen IDPL and set up a steel factory at Bayyaram. Hansraj said after the BJP government came into power, the reputation of the country across the globe reached new heights by dealing with terro- rism with an iron hand . “Un- der the leadership of Narend- ra Modi, the country exports have gone up and imports from China have dwindled,” he said. Aggravating the threat isthe fact that unlike HepatitisAand B, there is no vaccine yetto prevent hepatitis C whichcan lead to chronic liver disea-ses if not treated in time,” ad-ded Rao.

Although extensive rese-arch hasn’t been conducted to

suggest exact numbers, ex-perts peg the incidence of He-patitis C at two per cent in ge-neral and up to 15 per cent intribal areas surrounding thecity and across the state.

Also, experts believe thatthe increasing numbers aredue to the increase in detec-tion of cases due to viral scree-ning being taken up at variouslevels. While the commonlyfollowed test for the virus doesnot detect early cases (betwe-en 3 and 6 weeks), the nucleic

acid assay test can detect earlycases too. “All blood banksshould follow the nucleic acidtest to ensure early diagnosis. Also for dialysis the virustests are hardly run, especial-ly when patients opt for cent-res offering dialysis at chea-per rates, it leads to many ca-ses of contracting the virus. Before every dialysis procedu-re the tests should be run,”suggested Dr Govind Verma, gastroenterologist and hepa-tologist, Pace Hospital.
