Chapter 1 Installation materials Survey Description
1.1. About Microwave survey
Microwave includes three type survey, and Installation survey will be described detailed.
1, Installation Materials survey
Installation Materials survey plays a very important role in a project. An accurate, detailed
and valuable survey report not only provides very important basis for correct goods
delivery of Huawei, but also gives important data and reference information for subsequent
engineering design, suite delivery and project construction.
2, Site survey
To establish precise geographic positions (coordinates) and ground elevations of proposed
sites, later used in radio frequency interference(RFI) calculations and frequency
coordination activities;
To determine tower conditions, tower heights, the minimum and maximal available
antenna height, whether there are obstacles or not around the tower;
3, LOS survey (Line Of Sight)
Surveyor performs the survey of microwave transmission paths to accomplish the following
important objectives:
To verify the “free-space” transmission conditions (i.e., sufficient clearances) can satisfy
with the proposed path, Line Of Sight, whether there are obstructions along the path, and
the obstacles heights;
To identify any potential sources of reflections, either on-path or off-path, which could
interfere with normal operation of the radio link;
1.2. Preparations for Survey
1.2.1. Liaison Meeting for survey
Prior to the field verification survey, the PM of Huawei and the surveyors shall have a
meeting together with the customer. The purposes and schedule of the survey should be
defined clearly on this liaison meeting.
1.2.2. Contract information

2.3.3. IF cable and E1 cable survey
1) Total length of IF cable/feeder (m)
Estimate the length of the IF cable in the equipment room (with a slack of 5%) and check if the total length of the IF cable (indoors and outdoors) is not longer than 300 meters. In the OptiX RTN 600, the IF cable can only be a maximum of 300 meters. When the total length of the IF cable does not exceed 300 meters, check the route of the IF cable in the equipment room. In addition, check if all turns of the IF cable meet the required bending radius. If not, re-design the route of the IF cable in the equipment room.
2) Resistance of 2 Mbit/s trunk cable
Check whether the impedance of the 2 Mbit/s trunk cable that already exists in the equipment room is 75 ohm or 120 ohm. Depending on the survey result, decide the impedance of the 2 Mbit/s trunk cable to be used in the OptiX RTN 600. The impedance of the 2 Mbit/s trunk cable may be 75 ohm or 120 ohm. Which impedance will be used is decided by the survey result.
3) 2M trunk cable length (m)
After the IDU installation position is determined, estimate the length of the 2M trunk cable when it is connected to the corresponding port.
2.3.4. Power and ground Cable length
1) Power type
Follow the steps below to check the power type:a) Check if the base station uses the mains supply. If not, make a detailed record. b) Check the voltage of the AC power in the equipment room. If the voltage is not 220 V (Huawei product uses the 220 V AC), make a record.c) Check if the number of the unused output terminals on the AC distribution cabinet meets the requirement of this project.d) Check the input and output voltages of the DC power supply in the equipment room.
