REPORTS Teachers have been working extremely hard over the
past few weeks marking exams, finalising assessments
and writing student reports. I have been reading these
reports and am impressed with the number of students
in Years 7 – 10 who have been awarded a Principal’s
award for their outstanding efforts.
Note here the key word is effort. The first thing I look
for in a comment is to see if the student has been trying
their best in class and has completed all the
assessment work. If the answer to this is ‘yes’ then I
believe the student should be proud of their report, as
their achievement will be the best they can do and
should be recognised for this.
Reports will be finalised this week and posted before
the school holiday. They will also be made ‘live’ in
Millennium with a message on “School Stream” to notify
you when this has been done. Any parent who requires
a login to the Millennium system for their children can
contact me at the school or leave a message with the
front office.
While we take every care to check the reports before
they go out, there may be some small errors that slip
through our checks. If you find an error in your child’s
report please let us know and we will fix this for you.
PUPIL FREE DAY The first day back for all students will be Tuesday
19th
July. Staff will be back the previous day to
continue our professional learning and planning for the
rest of the year but there will be no lessons or student
supervision on Monday 18th July.
I wish all students and staff a happy and safe holiday –
see you on the 19th July.
NEWSLETTER HARD COPY After this week we will cease printing our newsletter for
distribution. You will be able to access the newsletter
via the school website, our school app or sign up to our
email list. Anyone that cannot access these
technologies can request a hard copy from the school
office.
DATA COLLECTION - IMPORTANT
MESSAGE One of the important attachments with this newsletter
is an information letter explaining the Nationally
Consistent Collection of Data which is mandatory for
all schools this year. This process ensures sufficient
funding and support is provided to schools to support
students, not only with a diagnosed disability but also
with learning, medical, social and mental health
needs.
The data is confidential and does not require any
additional information than that provided on enrolment
forms or from Individual Education Plans meetings
held earlier in the year. However you can request that
your child’s data is not collected. In the interests of
confidentiality we do not notify which students are par-
ticularly being counted so if you wish to gain further
information or simply withdraw your child from the
data collection please contact the school by Friday
22nd July on 6368 2100 and speak to either the office
or Mr Browett directly as you feel comfortable.

HSC STUDY DAY Last Tuesday saw eight of the Year 12 students attend
the HSC Study Day at CSU Bathurst. This was a good
introduction to University life by attending lectures with
over 300 students, finding smaller tutorial rooms in
other buildings around campus as well as getting lunch
in the very crowded cafeteria!
The Blayney students were able to attend sessions on
English including some presented by Bell Shakespeare
and other experts. Many other sessions were available
including Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Legal,
Business Studies, History, CAFS, Food Tech and Art.
All who attended found the day very beneficial and were
quite pleased with their understanding of the HSC
requirements that they already have.

TENNIS On Monday June 6, both the boys and girls Tennis
team played their round 3 matches against Denison
College. Due to the inclement weather the matches
were played at the Indoor Centre in Orange.
Congratulations to Sarah Bradley who was our only
winner on the day, with a 7 - 6 tie break in her singles
match. Matthew Reeks and Morgan Fuller were close
in their doubles being down 5 - 1 and rallying to a 4 - 6
loss. Morgan also came close in his singles only losing
3 - 6. Although being outclassed, Blayney never gave
up and were competitive to the last point. Well done to
all the players – Caitlyn Speirs, Sharna Kinghorne, Kodi
Fuller, Sarah Bradley, Morgan Fuller, Matthew Reeks,
Ryley Oborn and Henry Hobby. As always, a pleasure
to take away.
YEAR 7 DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
TIMBER Year 7 Design and Technology Timber students were
given the task below at the beginning of the term.
You are an automotive design engineer in the research
and development department of the ACDS Automotive
Company. You have been assigned the task of
designing the new, fuel efficient, aerodynamically
sound, stylish, and futuristic automobile for the
company. You will be in charge of the designing,
constructing, and testing of the new vehicle. All cars in
the company will be compared for excellence in design,
craftsmanship, aerodynamics, and the fastest racing
time.
Students researched, sketched, cut, chiselled, shaped,
assembled, painted and tested their aerodynamically
designed dragsters for the final knockout races in Week
9. The students did an excellent job with Harry Cassel
taking out top honours from Marcus Linnane.
Madison’s dragster averaged a speed of 82km p/h over
the 20 m track. The top performing students will race
off against other top performing Year 7 cohorts at the
end of the year and may also race against other Central
West schools undertaking CO2 Dragsters as a unit of
work.

HSC MUSIC STUDY DAY On 27th May the annual HSC Music Study Day was
held at Orange High School. It is most important for
our Year 12 Music students to attend this day to make
a connection with some really important people - the
music markers for the HSC performance exam in Week
9 of Term 3. We were able to listen to and be advised
by one of the most senior markers in the state, Ms
Nancy Morvillo, who outlined how to go about Viva
Voces and who was also there for all the performers
who willingly demonstrated their songs and pieces in
order to get this high calibre feedback. There is no-one
better than the most senior of senior markers to tell us
the truth but to also guide us gently as to how to make
the best of ourselves in performance.
The students who were able to join me for the day of
intensive learning were Jacob Acton, Jaide Goodworth,
Jared Simonis but sadly we lost Marty Okon due to
illness.
These students also attended a talk and demonstration
on composition and computers with Mr Andrew Herft,
who is another HSC marker. Composition these days
for HSC is largely technology driven, with great
composition packages available for laptops. The
important element, however, is still the person who
does the creating and designing. It is important to have
a good arsenal of theoretical tools in compositional craft
to shape and manipulate to fit into a great structural
design that is the final piece of music.
Here are Jacob, Jaide and Jared anxiously waiting for Jaide and Jared's performance:
WHAT'S GOING DOWN IN BRAZIL.
A BAILEY PERKINS STORY Hey Blayney, how you going? I'm just going to write a
little bit about what I've experienced in Brazil so far for
those who may be interested. So far I've been in Brazil
for around 5 months, and it's been really amazing.
From the first night here I spent with my great host
family, I've loved Brazil, the people, the food, the
absolute sheer size of São Paulo, jam packed with
culture, and being the largest city in the Southern
Hemisphere, there's a million things to do and see.
Although the city here is amazing, the easy highlight so
far is the Amazon trip, where I spent 8-9 days floating
down the river with around 60 other exchanges from all
around the world. I got to experience a lot of things I've
wanted to do since I was little, from holding a casual
old sloth to swimming with the pink river dolphins,
seeing a real anaconda to paddling down the river, and
more. Everything I did and experienced I'll remember
for the rest of my life. Looking towards the future, I'm
planning and hoping to go to the either the Olympics or
Paralympics games with a group of other Aussies
around Brazil.
Anyway, I better head off, I've got a football riot to head
off to, nothing warms you up like a heated fight
between 2 mobs of over emotional fans.

Are you part of a P&C committee or
incorporated sporting or community group
that needs to raise funds? Consider setting
up a barbecue at an upcoming Blayney
Farmers' Market - they're held on the third
Sunday of the month from 9am to 1pm either
in Carrington Park or the Blayney Shire
Community Centre. If you're short of
equipment or need a couple more helpers,
you can discuss sharing the spot with Blayney
Rotary Club. We're looking for groups that
wish to use our markets to help boost their
funds - it's all about putting money back into
our fabulous shire.

STAGE 6 ASSEMBLY Congratulations to the many Years 11 and 12 students recognised for their successes in the Stage 6 Award
Assembly. This important assembly was held Friday 17/6/16. On the day, the students were rewarded for their
achievements, but also reminded to keep the momentum going for the work that is still ahead. This was an
important message from our Principal Mr Browett and a similar message was repeated by Year Advisors Mrs
Dean and Mr Berry. This was also reinforced with the message that it is a personal best that is being sought
from all students.
Attendees were also treated to beautiful music from Year 9 students Jake Ryan and Chloe Begbie and Year 10
student Mya Brown that left many with goose bumps.
Stage 6 students Jaide Goodworth and Atticus Strong (Year 12) and Karlee Funnell, and Jared Simonis from
Year 11 also spoke about the many wonderful experiences already enjoyed by students; still there is the promise
of more to come.
Thank you to the familes who came to celebrate the success of their loved ones and also to the student helpers
who helped make this ceremony a success. The many award recipients are listed and pictured on the next few
pages.
