Representation in this music video is goth/emo. The narrative of the music video is a kid getting bullied for dressing like he does, and then he goes to a train station and home after school from receiving horrible notes on his locker door, he then has the decision on whether to self harm, or to write a suicide note, hence why the song is ‘Knives and Pens’. Through out the video it switches from the narrative of the kid, to the band themselves performing in three different settings, in an all white scene, an all black one, and in a mix of black and red. The way that the band are dressed links in to the genre of the music they do, and fits in well with the stereotype of goths and emos, along with the make up and hair.

Black Veil Brides- Knives and Pens

The way that females are being represented in this music video are presented in different ways, for example, in the video women are seen as strong, from the fact that at the start of the video, Taylor and another female are fighting off a bunch of males with no problem to the point where Taylor is able to reapply make up, which just continues to add to the sexual element of women in the video. Then throughout the video, a different range of females are shown. As well as being represented still as something sexual and pleasing to look at through the clothing that the women in the video wear. Taylor is also seen as something sexual from the fact that she is very well known and is popular among girls and for her looks and revealing clothing through out the video, many males like her too.

Race and ethnicity have been represented in this music video, this music video links well with the black male stereotype, and that they don’t tend to have a lot of money, but have a lot of people to feed. The storyline of the song is that Lewis needs to get a job and earn money for his family. This links to the stereotype of black people being uneducated and unable to find a job. The music video itself actually shows Lewis doing multiple jobs, in order to try and earn enough money to pay the bills. The stereotype in this music video is that he has to have many jobs in order to pay up, due to the amount of bills.
