Reflected Ceiling Plan on Sheet A2.02 identifies requirements for acoustical ceiling, type ACT-01, to be installed at MRI

Equipment Room / 1000 at a height of 10'-8" AFF. Sheet M2.01 identifies requirements for the new 8" exhaust duct to

be run on the plan South side of the column, however there was not sufficient room for this routing, so the exhaust duct

was required to be run on the plan North side of the column, above the 26"x12" supply air duct. Bottom of the existing

beam at this location is at 11'-2" AFF. Due to the elevation of the bottom of the existing beam, it was not possible to run

the ductwork above ceiling, so it was discussed at an onsite meeting to run the supply air duct below the ceiling. Terry

Manning, has identified requirements for the FM200 system nozzle to be installed within 12" of the ceiling with no

obstructions which cannot be met with the duct installed below the ceiling. In light of this, it is proposed that the ACT

ceiling at MRI Equipment Room / 1000 be eliminated and that the FM200 system be revised to protect the entire room as

identified in attached revised fire alarm shop drawings.

RACEWAYS, LABOR, PERMITS AND TESTING FOR ALL LIFE SAFETY DEVICES.

3) UPON COMPLETION OF THE SYSTEM INSTALLATION, A COMPLETE FUNCTIONAL TEST OF THE

SYSTEM SHALL BE PERFORMED, VERIFYING PROPER OPERATION OF ALL COMPONENTS.

AMERICAN FIRE EQUIPMENT SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE TO COORDINATE TESTING AND INSPECTION

OF THE LIFE SAFETY SYSTEM.

4) AMERICAN FIRE EQUIPMENT SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE TO COORDINATE ALL TESTING AND

INSPECTION OF THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM WITH THE LOCAL FIRE INSPECTOR, GENERAL

CLEAN AGENT SCOPE OF WORK1) INSTALL ONE (1) NEW FIKE SAPPHIRE FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM FOR ST. JOSEPH'S HOSPITAL

AND MEDICAL CENTER - NST TOWER - 1st FLOOR MRI. AMERICAN FIRE EQUIPMENT SHALL

PROVIDE SYSTEM, DRAWINGS, CALCULATIONS AND PROVIDE ALL SYSTEM EQUIPMENT. AMERICAN

FIRE EQUIPMENT SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR INSTALLATION, LABOR, MATERIALS, PERMITS,

TESTING AND CERTIFICATION.

2) THE FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM SHALL PROVIDE INDEPENDENT FIRE PROTECTION FOR THE

HAZARD AS DESCRIBED IN THE HAZARD INFORMATION SECTION.

3) THE FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM DESIGN SHALL UTILIZE AUTOMATIC DETECTION, MANUAL

ACTIVATION, NOTIFICATION SIGNALS AND EQUIPMENT SHUTDOWN CONTROLS. THE SYSTEM

DESIGN AND INSTALLATION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S GUIDELINES,

CALCULATIONS AND EQUIPMENT LISTINGS.

4) THE FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM CONTROL PANEL SHALL PROVIDE OUTPUTS FOR ALARM AND

TROUBLE SIGNALS TO THE BUILDING FIRE ALARM PANEL.

5) UPON COMPLETION OF THE SYSTEM INSTALLATION, A COMPLETE FUNCTIONAL TEST OF THE

SYSTEMS SHALL BE PERFORMED VERIFYING PROPER OPERATION OF ALL COMPONENTS.

ADDITIONALLY, A ROOM INTEGRITY (FAN) TEST SHALL BE PERFORMED TO VERIFY PROPER

SEALING OF THE HAZARD AREA.

6) AMERICAN FIRE EQUIPMENT SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE TO COORDINATE ALL TESTING AND

INSPECTION OF THE FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS WITH THE LOCAL FIRE INSPECTOR, GENERAL

CONTRACTOR AND ANY ASSOCIATED CONTRACTORS.

7) AMERICAN FIRE EQUIPMENT SHALL PROVIDE COPIES OF INSPECTION REPORTS, ASBUILT

DRAWINGS AND OPERATIONAL TRAINING TO THE OWNER UPON COMPLETION OF THE SYSTEMS

INSTALLATION AND TESTING.

GENERAL NOTES1) THE DISCHARGE TIME OF THE CLEAN AGENT SYSTEM SHALL BE 10 SECONDS OR LESS. THE

PROTECTED VOLUME SHALL BE TOTAL FLOODED AT A MINIMUM 4.7% CONCENTRATION FACTOR.

THE PROTECTED AREA SHALL MAINTAIN A MINIMUM 4.7% CONCENTRATION FOR A MINIMUM

PERIOD OF 10 MINUTES.

2) ALL DOORS LEADING FROM THE PROTECTED AREA SHALL REQUIRE DOOR CLOSURES, DOOR

SEALS AND DOOR SWEEPS TO MAINTAIN A PROPER CLEAN AGENT CONCENTRATION LEVEL, AND

PREVENT LEAKAGE OF AGENT. SEALING OF DOORS SHALL BE PERFORMED BY OTHERS.

3) THE FIRE SUPPRESSION CONTROL PANEL SHALL HAVE BATTERY BACKUP TO PROVIDE 24

HOURS OF STANDBY OPERATION AND 5 MINUTES OF ALARM OPERATION.

4) SEALING OF CONDUIT, PIPE AND DUCT PENETRATIONS INTO THE PROTECTED AREA SHALL BE

REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN A PROPER CLEAN AGENT CONCENTRATION LEVEL, AND PREVENT

LEAKAGE OF THE AGENT. SEALING OF OPENINGS SHALL BE PERFORMED BY OTHERS.

5) ALL SYSTEM PROGRAMMING AND TERMINATIONS WITHIN THE FIRE SUPPRESSION CONTROL

PANEL SHALL BE PERFORMED BY AMERICAN FIRE EQUIPMENT.

6) SPRINKLER HEADS ARE TO REMAIN IN THE PROTECTED AREAS UNLESS A VARIANCE IS

GRANTED BY THE LOCAL AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION.

ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS1) ALL DETECTION AND CONTROLS WIRING SHALL BE IN A MINIMUM OF 3/4" RED CONDUIT.

2) REFER TO THE WIRE CHART TO DETERMINE THE CONDUCTOR SIZE AND INSULATION TYPE TO

BE INSTALLED. ALL CONDUCTORS ARE TO BE SOLID COPPER UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON THE

PLANS.

3) ALL CIRCUITS SHALL BE DESIGNATED AS FOLLOWS:

a) SIGNAL LINE CIRCUITS (SLC) SHALL BE DESIGNATED OR CLASS "A".

c) MANUAL PULL STATIONS SHALL BE 48" ABOVE THE FINISHED FLOOR TO THE MIDDLE OF THE

DEVICE.

d) WALL MOUNTED NOTIFICATION DEVICES SHALL BE MOUNTED AT 80" ABOVE FINISHED FLOOR

OR 6" BELOW THE CEILING TO THE CENTER OF THE DEVICE WHICHEVER IS THE LOWEST.

e) CEILING MOUNTED NOTIFICATION DEVICES MOUNTED ABOVE 10'-0" A.F.F. SHALL BE DE-RATED

PER NFPA 72 (2013), TABLE 18.5.5.4.1(b).

f) WHERE PARTITIONS EXTEND TO WITHIN LESS THAN 18" FROM THE CEILING THE SMOKE

DETECTOR SPACING SHALL BE REDUCED OR AN ADDITIONAL SMOKE DETECTION SHALL BE

INSTALLED.

6) THE SELECTION AND PLACEMENT OF SMOKE DETECTORS SHALL TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION

THE AREA IN WHICH THE SMOKE DETECTOR IS INSTALLED. VERIFY ALL DEVICE LOCATIONS PRIOR

TO INSTALLATION.

7) THE 120 VAC CIRCUITS FOR THE FIRE ALARM PANEL SHALL BE A DEDICATED BRANCH CIRCUIT

TO COMPLY WITH NFPA 72 (2013), SECTION 10.6.5.

8) "T" TAPPING IS ALLOWED ON 24 VDC POWER CIRCUITS ONLY. "T" TAPPING IS NOT ALLOWED ON

ANY INITIATION, NOTIFICATION OR SIGNALING LINE CIRCUIT.

9) ALL CIRCUITS ORIGINATING FROM THE FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL OR NOTIFICATION

BOOSTER PANEL ARE POWER LIMITED. POWER LIMITED AND NON POWER LIMITED CIRCUITS CAN

NOT RESIDE IN THE SAME CONDUIT, CABLE OR RACEWAY.

10) THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL BE INSTALLED PER NFPA 72 (2013), AND ALL APPLICABLE

STATE AND LOCAL CODES.

11) THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL HAVE BATTERY BACKUP TO PROVIDE 24 HOURS OF STAND BY

OPERATION WITH 5 MINUTES OF ALARM.

12) AUDIBILITY THROUGHOUT THE AREA SHALL MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS AS

SET FORTH IN NFPA 72 (2013) AND CITY OF PHOENIX REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS OCCUPANCY.

a) 10 dB ABOVE AMBIENT SOUND LEVELS TO A MINIMUM 60 dB IN PATIENT CARE AREAS (PRIVATE

MODE AREAS) TO COMPLY WITH NFPA 72 (2013), SECTION 18.4.4.2 (PRIVATE MODE AUDIBLE

REQUIREMENTS).

b) 15 dB ABOVE AMBIENT SOUND LEVELS TO A MINIMUM 60 dB IN PATIENT CARE STAFF AREAS

(PRIVATE MODE AREAS) TO COMPLY WITH NFPA 72 (2013), SECTION 18.4.4.2 (PRIVATE MODE

AUDIBLE REQUIREMENTS).

c) 15 dB ABOVE AMBIENT SOUND LEVELS TO A MINIMUM 65 dB IN BUSINESS STAFF AREAS (PUBLIC

MODE AREAS) TO COMPLY WITH NFPA 72 (2013), SECTION 18.4.4.2 (PRIVATE MODE AUDIBLE

REQUIREMENTS).

d) 15 dB ABOVE AMBIENT SOUND LEVELS TO A MINIMUM 70 dB IN PUBLIC AREAS (PUBLIC MODE

AREAS) TO COMPLY WITH NFPA 72 (2013), SECTION 18.4.3.1 (PUBLIC MODE AUDIBLE

REQUIREMENTS).

WORK BY OTHERSTHE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE REQUIRED FOR PROPER FIRE ALARM SYSTEM OPERATION. THIS

WORK SHALL BE PROVIDED BY OTHER CONTRACTORS AND COORDINATED WITH AMERICAN FIRE

EQUIPMENT. THESE ITEMS SHALL BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE FINAL SYSTEM INSPECTION.

1) 120 VAC POWER TO THE FIRE ALARM PANEL ON A DEDICATED BRANCH CIRCUIT TO COMPLY

WITH NFPA 72 (2013), SECTION 10.6.5.

2) SEALING OF THE PROTECTED AREA TO PREVENT LEAKAGE OF THE CLEAN AGENT FIRE

SUPPRESSANT. THIS INCLUDES DOOR SEALS, DOOR SWEEPS, AIR HANDLER UNITS, AND SEALING

ANY WALL PENETRATIONS FOR CONDUITS, PIPING AND DUCTS.

3) WIRING AND CONDUIT TO SHUTDOWN THE HVAC SYSTEM SERVING THE PROTECTED AREA.

RELAY CONTACTS SHALL BE PROVIDED AT THE FIRE SUPPRESSION CONTROL PANEL.

4) PROVIDING, INSTALLATION OR WIRING OF SMOKE/FIRE DAMPERS NECESSARY TO ISOLATE THE

DUCTWORK LEAVING THE PROTECTED AREA. RELAY CONTACTS SHALL BE PROVIDED AT THE FIRE

SUPPRESSION CONTROL PANEL.

5) WIRING AND CONDUIT TO THE EPO SYSTEM SERVING THE PROTECTED AREA. RELAY CONTACTS

CLEAN AGENT PIPING REQUIREMENTS1) REFER TO SYSTEM DRAWINGS AND HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS FOR THE LOCATION AND LAYOUTOF THE AGENT DISTRIBUTION PIPING SYSTEM. EXAMINE THE CONFIGURATION OF THE PIPINGSYSTEM TO ENSURE THE PIPING AND DISCHARGE NOZZLES DO NOT INTERFERE WITH SOLIDSTRUCTURE OBJECTS OR EQUIPMENT WITHIN THE HAZARD AREA BEFORE THE PIPINGCONSTRUCTION BEGINS. SHOULD ANY CONFLICTS OCCUR NOTIFY AMERICAN FIRE EQUIPMENTCOMPANY TO MAKE THE APPROPRIATE CHANGES ON THE SYSTEM DRAWINGS AND THE HYDRAULICCALCULATIONS BEFORE ANY PIPING CONSTRUCTION BEGINS.

2) PIPING MATERIAL SHALL CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS AS OUTLINED IN NFPA 2001,SECTION 2-2.1 OF THE CURRENT EDITION. SCHEDULE 40 OR SCHEDULE 80 PIPE (BLACK ORGALVANIZED) SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM A53 OR A106 SHALL BE THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE PIPE USEDIN THE AGENT DISTRIBUTION PIPING SYSTEM. ORDINARY CAST IRON PIPE, STEEL PIPECONFORMING TO ASTM A-120, OR NON-METALLIC PIPE SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED IN THE AGENTDISTRIBUTION PIPING SYSTEM.

3) PIPE FITTINGS SHALL CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OUTLINED IN NFPA 2001, SECTION 2-2.3OF THE CURRENT EDITION. MALLEABLE IRON FITTINGS (BLACK OR GALVANIZED) SHALL BE 300 LB(135 KG) CLASS FITTINGS CONFORMING TO ASTM SPECIFICATION A-197. ORDINARY CAST IRONFITTING AND 150 LB (68 KG) CLASS FITTINGS SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED. "VICTAULIC" OR OTHERGROOVED FITTINGS SHALL BE PERMITTED AS LONG AS THEY ARE UL LISTED FOR THIS APPLICATION.THREADED, WELDED OR FLANGED FITTINGS SHALL BE PERMITTED AS LONG AS THEY CONFORM TOTHE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS. ALL FITTINGS SHALL BE THREADED FITTINGS UNLESS OTHERWISENOTED ON THE SYSTEM DRAWINGS. HOLE-CUT OR SIMILAR TYPE FITTINGS SHALL NOT BE USED.

4) THE METHOD OF JOINING ALL PIPING SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 2001. TEFLON TAPEIS RECOMMENDED AND SHALL BE APPLIED ON THE MALE PIPE THREADS. ALL GROOVEDCOUPLINGS SHALL BE LUBRICATED PER MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS. THREADS ON ALL PIPEAND FITTINGS SHALL BE TAPERED CONFORMING TO ANSI SPECIFICATION B-20.1.

5) REDUCTIONS IN PIPE SIZE SHALL BE DIRECTLY AFTER A TEE WITH THE TEE BEING THE SAME PIPESIZE AS THE INLET LINE TO THE TEE. REDUCTIONS IN PIPE SIZE MAY ALSO BE MADE USING ACONCENTRIC BELL REDUCER AFTER A UNION, PROVIDED THE NEXT CHANGE IN DIRECTION (TEE) ISLOCATED A MINIMUM OF 10 PIPE DIAMETERS DOWNSTREAM OF THE CONCENTRIC BELL REDUCER.CONCENTRIC BELL REDUCERS OR CONCENTRIC REDUCING COUPLINGS SHALL BE USED TO MAKE ALLREDUCTIONS IN PIPE SIZE. REDUCING BUSHINGS, WELD-O-LET AND HOLE-CUT FITTINGS SHALL NOTBE PERMITTED.

6) ALL PIPING SHALL BE INSTALLED IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER WITH "GOOD COMMERCIALPRACTICE". ALL PIPING AND FITTINGS SHALL BE BLOWN CLEAR , SWABBED WITH A SUITABLESOLVENT (ACETONE, TRICHLORETHANE, ETC.) AND ALL PIPE LENGTH SHALL BE REAMED TO REMOVEALL BURRS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. ALL PIPING SHALL BE RIGIDLY SUPPORTED BY A COMBINATIONNETWORK COMPRISED OF PIPE HANGERS AND RIGID SUPPORT HANGERS. PIPE HANGERS ARE USEDSUPPORT THE "DEAD LOAD" OF THE PIPING SYSTEM AND SHALL BE SPACED AT INTERVALS NOT TOEXCEED 15 FEET. 7) CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN BRACING THE PIPING TO INSURE THE NOZZLE LOCATIONS AREWITHIN 1 FOOT OF THE LOCATIONS ON THE SYSTEM PLANS. CORRECT NOZZLES SHALL BEINSTALLED EXACTLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SYSTEM PLANS AND DEFLECTOR SET SCREWSSHALL BE IN PLACE DURING A SYSTEM DISCHARGE OR AGENT DISTRIBUTION OR THE SYSTEM'SABILITY TO SUPPRESS A FIRE MAY ADVERSELY BE AFFECTED. 8) FINAL INSTALLATION ACCEPTANCE SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 2001 SECTION 4-7 OFTHE LATEST EDITION. THE PIPING SHALL BE PNEUMATICALLY TESTED IN A CLOSED CIRCUIT FOR APERIOD OF 10 MIN. AT 40 PSIG (276 kPa). AT THE END OF THE 10 MIN. PERIOD THE PRESSUREDROP SHALL NOT EXCEED 20 PERCENT OF TEST PRESSURE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 2001SECTION 4-7.2.2.12.

9) ALL SYSTEM PIPING SHALL BE INSTALLED IN STRICT ACCORDANCE TO THE SYSTEM PLANS. IFPIPING CHANGES ARE NECESSARY, THEY MUST BE APPROVED BY AMERICAN FIRE EQUIPMENT.
