Requirement 1: Board Policy

1-A. See Board Policy IGDJ 1-B. See Board Policy IGDJ 1-C. The school administration supports our sportsmanship

policy by placing banners in the gymnasium that remind all in attendance that sportsmanlike behavior is expected by all. Also, by making regular announcements at sporting events that address administrative expectations and consequences to those who choose to not exhibit sportsmanlike behavior. Lastly, the administration supports the policy by making sportsmanship and the recognition of such behavior, an integral part of the senior awards ceremony, which is held each spring.

A. Throughout the course of the 2010-2011 school year there were six presentations that included elements of our sportsmanship campaign. This includes the following:

-Freshman Orientation: A presentation focused on providing a smooth transition for incoming freshman. This is held at the high school and includes a piece from the Athletic Department about their role in the sportsmanship campaign. -Fall Pre-Season Parent/Coaches Meeting: Meetings at the high school designed specifically to provide necessary information to parents and coaches -Winter Pre-Season Parent/Coaches Meeting: same as above

A. During the past school year we have emphasized the publicity of the North Ridgeville High School S.E.I. Committee through sportsmanship T-shirts, banners, reminders in the football program, and an announcement read before every sporting event.

Requirement 4: Ongoing Campaign

Page 9: Requirement 1: Board Policy 1-A.See Board Policy IGDJ 1-A.See Board Policy IGDJBoard Policy IGDJBoard Policy IGDJ 1-B.See Board Policy IGDJ 1-B.See Board

B. In order to intentionally raise awareness of the importance of sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity, the SEI Committee assisted in OHSAA events such as:• Volley for the Cure • OHSAA Foundation Basketball game

Both events have a duel purpose of providing financial assistance for both foundations as well as allowing our students to participate in something much more valuable than just a game, community service. At the OHSAA game, goods, time, and money were also donated by all teams involved and given to the local Community Care.

B. (cont.) Another example included our students’ reaction to the tragic car accident that killed two Midview High School students just before our annual rivalry football game. Without any direction or guidance, the student body made a banner of sympathy to mourn the loss of those students are presented it to Midview at the game on Friday night. Their actions appeared in the local news and newspapers (see picture). Needless to say, this was a very proud moment for our community and only reinforced the importance of our dedication to the SEI campaign.

D. The targets of our S.E.I. campaign include athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, support groups, fans, parents, student organizations, and community members. We believe that sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity should be learned, practiced, and portrayed at every school sponsored event, as well as any community events.

Part 7: Critical Situations Cont.

• 7-D. Last season the student section in our gym was located directly outside the visitor’s locker room and directly across from the visitors’ student section. This created the potential for negative behavior from both our fans, the players from other teams, and visiting fans. This season the administration decided to move the student section so that it would be on the opposite end of the floor from the visiting locker room and the visiting student section. • During our football games we hire police 4 officers to assist

in crowd control. For the game against our rival Midview, we hired 6 officers to assist with crowd control in the stadium as well as in the parking lot.

Page 36: Requirement 1: Board Policy 1-A.See Board Policy IGDJ 1-A.See Board Policy IGDJBoard Policy IGDJBoard Policy IGDJ 1-B.See Board Policy IGDJ 1-B.See Board

Our school has an awards program established to recognize outstanding sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.

• As part of the West Shore Conference each sport recognizes an athlete for their display of sportsmanship on the field of play. The WSC Sportsmanship award is recommended by the coach and approved by the Athletic Director and Principal of each school.• Sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity are recognized by North Ridgeville High School’s administration and Board of Education during the Senior Awards Breakfast. The Board of Education recognizes the efforts of Conference championship teams at Board meetings as well.
