Continuing Nursing Education Contact Hours

All program planners and presenters have signed Conflict of Interest forms, indicating that they have no financial relationships with commercial entities which produce or disseminate pharmaceutical or other patient-care products or devices, that they will not discuss off-label use of such products or devices, and will not endorse products of these entities. Any support from commercial entities will be provided in the form of unrestricted educational grants which will not influence the educational program. If provided, such commercial support will be announced during the opening session, and published in the program book.

By attending the entire program, nurses will earn 4.8 Continuing Nursing Education contact hours. In order to earn these hours, nurses must submit the completed evaluation form, which will be exchanged for a certificate of completion. Less contact hours may be earned by those who attend only part of the program.

Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by Arkansas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the

American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Keynote Speaker

Heather M. Young, Ph.D., R.N., G.N.P., F.A.A.N.

The University of California Board of Regents approved the appointment of Heather Young, a nurse leader, educator and scientist from Portland, Ore., as Associate Vice Chancellor for Nursing at UC Davis.

Dr. Young, a nationally recognized expert in gerontological nursing and rural health, will lead a new school of nursing at UC Davis, now under review by the University of California Board of Regents. Upon Regents’ approval of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, Dr. Young also will hold the title of dean at the school.

Dr. Young currently is the Grace Phelps Distinguished Professor, director of Rural Health Research Development and director of the John A. Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence Research at the Oregon Health and Science University School of Nursing. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing.

“The emphasis at UC Davis on reaching out to medically underserved communities, improving patient safety and collaborating across multiple disciplines is a great match for my own interests and priorities,” Dr. Young said. “UC Davis has embarked on a course to create a different kind of nursing school, one that goes beyond traditional boundaries, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”

Dr. Young is a UC Davis alumna, graduating in 1981 with her bachelor’s degree in dietetics. She later earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Sacramento City College, and a bachelor’s of science in nursing degree from Southern Oregon State College. Dr. Young then went to the University of Washington, where she received a master of science in nursing degree with a specialty in gerontology and a doctorate in nursing science.
