There are many different subcultures in today’s society. In the first part of this slideshow we will demonstrate how different sub-cultures relate to other styles of music and fashion.
The sub-cultures we will be indentifying are: Punk, Emo, Chav,
and Folk.
Many punks use clothing as a way of making a statement a good example of this would be Vivienne Westwood’s clothing designs as she gained attention when Sex pistols first wore
her clothes.An example of what Punk’s wear would be, Clothes which standout such as leopard print’s, and would tend to have
Mohawks. There are many different types of Punk’s, this all relates to
different genres such as Skate Punk, Skinheads, Crust Punk, etc …
Examples of all different types of Punk music would be: Bad Brains,
Discharge, Sex Pistols, The Casualties and Gallows.
The term ‘Emo’ means ‘Emotional’, and first broke on to the mainstream scene during the year 2000.
Emo first emerged when bands began to harm themselves on stage in front of their audiences. An example of what Emo’s would tend to wear
would be, either all black clothes which was first originated by Goths. They also would wear bright
coloured clothing as well as luminous paints.Example of Emo Bands would be bands like: Fall
Out Boy, Panic At The Disco, My Chemical Romance, Hawthorne Heights and Paramore
The Term Chav means Council Housed and Violent. ‘Chavvet’ is the term used for
female ‘chavs’. An example of the types of clothes that chavs would wear, would be: Tracksuit’s, Hoodies and mainly sporting makes such
as Nike and Adidas. Examples of music that Chavs would listen
to are: Rap, Techno, MC’s, R’n’B and Hip-Hop.
Some of the bands/Artists would be: The Blackout Crew, MC Devvo and Shady Piez,
DJ Q Feat. MC Bonez and TFI.
Folk Culture is linked together through many different subcultures such as Folk
Rock, Folk, Punk, Indie Folk, etc …Folk is a traditional music genre which
originates back to the 19th century. There are many different fashion styles linked
to folk cultures as there are many different sub cultures such as: Lumberjack Shirts,
Beards, and a working man boots.Examples of Folk Music would be: Frank
Turner, William Fitzsimmons, Good Old War, City and Colour and Chuck Ragan.
