WHAT IS BRAND IDENTITY?Brand identity is how a business

wants to be perceived by consumersThe some of the components of

the brand are the: name, logo, tone, tagline, which are created by

the business. It is done to reflect the values the

company is trying to bring to the market, to interest their

consumers.

FIRST EXAMPLE OF: HOW BRAND IDENTITY IS CREATED

The same font I used on the front cover for every issue of the magazine National Geographic.

Every issue has the same yellow border, on the front cover, around the edges of the page. This immediately

allows the audience to identify the magazine and

distinguish it from other magazines.

Furthermore the main image of the front covers all relate to the geography of our planet.

Whether it’s a image of a dolphin or an image of a

human, they all have something to do with our

planet.

For every issue a similar lay out is used, on the front covers of the magazine.

SECOND EXAMPLE OF: HOW BRAND IDENTITY IS CREATED

The colour red, white and black is used repetitively throughout the magazine for every issue.

After the logo, the combination of the colours is the first identifier of the magazine.

For Q magazine, the Q is both the name and the logo of the magazine.

This makes the magazine stand out from other

magazines. Plus it make it easy to recognize.

On the front cover, of the magazine, the main cover-line is of a different font than the rest of the rest of the text. This slight change will capture the attention of the magazine’s target audience.

POP MAGAZINES BRAND IDENTITIES

The main colour used in this magazine are usually pinks, purple, blues and orange.

This colours vary repetitively throughout the issues of the

magazine. Also this bright colours are used to

attract the attention of consumers, that read pop music magazines.

The lay out used is the same on every front cover.

At first it seems chaotic like there is not structure to the page; but looking at other front cover you start to notice a distinct structure on the front

covers. To separate it’s self from other magazines, like Q magazine, We Love Pop magazine uses a log as well.

The only different is that We Love Pop put’s it’s full name in the logo, whilst Q is both the name and the

logo of the magazine.

POP MAGAZINES BRAND IDENTITIES- CONTINUATION The font used on the

front cover of the magazine is the same, but the sizes of the font vary depending on how important the message is.

For example the main cover-line has the same font as the other writing,

but the size of the letters are a lot bigger.

Puffs and tag lines are used to catch the readers attention, and make the magazine seem more interesting.

This makes consumers want to

purchase the magazine.

AUDIENCE AND BRAND IDENTITIES

The identity of a magazine is influence by the target audience of the magazine.

For example: if your target audience it teens between the ages of 13

and 16 ,then your magazine will look a lot

different from a magazine targeted at much older audience.

The target audience of an already established magazine, expects it to look a certain way because that’s their established identity. On the other had a new magazine can decide what its style and identity is.

Once a magazine has chosen or identified it’s target audience, it can tailor it’s identity to suit the majority of the audience’s preferences.

This assures that that magazine will be liked and

the target audience will buy the magazine.

MY EVALUATION OF THE USE OF BRAND IDENTITY

Companies use brand identity to make sure that, their audience can easily identify their magazine without having to look for it. Brand identity also makes the magazine different and

unique. Components like: the name, logo, tone, tagline are created by

the business, allowing the magazine to stand out from the other magazines.

Having a magazine that is different could attract more fans of the pop music genre

Today consumers like products that look different and are not copies of existing product.

How Do Magazines Create the identity of their brand?

MY PLANS FOR CREATING BRAND IDENTITY FOR MY MAGAZINE

For my magazine I plant to have a logo. like Q magazine, only that my logo will look completely different from their logo.

Also I plan to make my magazine colourful and eye catching, but also professional looking.

Kind of like what Billboard magazine has does. I will be doing this to attract pop music fans that are part

of the late teen early adult age bracket. Another thing I could do is have of the logo of my

magazine on a corner of every page. Kind of like what National Geographic does. The only

difference is that: they use word, instead of a logo, and it is written at the bottom of the page.
