Executive summary

The report title as Anime News Network is the essential requirement of the course Computer

and Society (CMN311). The report created an opportunity to work more practically on field and

give us a chance to gather knowledge more from the real life activities.

We have tried our level best to provide best and accurate information regarding the report

Anime News Network. The whole report is based on a research work. We have to collect

relevant information without it the report would be incomplete.

The report work is mainly divided in to several parts:

Introduction:

Every day millions of people watch anime. All of these people seem to have one thing in

common, a desire for a fantasy world different from their own. The anime situation mixed in

with some fantasy that makes anime fans more fanatic or casual so they can lost in their own

world. Anything can happen to an anime world because there the skys the limit. There can be an

anime about pretty much anything and everything, theres always something for everyone .So

normally there is no age limit for the fans.

There are a great number of anime fans worldwide. Its very important for the anime fans to get

some kind of website where they can share their views and almost everything related to anime.

Anime News Network is for them. Anime News Network (ANN) delivers daily news of the

anime scene and its a big important site for the anime community. ANN is a news source that

focuses on the medium of Japanese Animation (anime) and Japanese Comics (manga). ANN has

been and continues to be the number one English language source for anime and manga news on

the Internet. The website offers reviews and other editorial content and also forums where

readers can discuss current issues and events. The anime fans can share everything related to

anime! You can also get to know Why is that manga chapter you love being delayed or if your

favorite anime show is going to have a second season or not. You'll also find official press

releases from the companies and reports on the major anime or manga conventions.

Anime News Network publishes news stories related to anime and manga that are researched by

the ANN staff only .The encyclopedia that contains a large number of anime and manga with

information on Japanese and English staff, theme songs, plot summaries, and user ratings.

So, what more does this site has to offer..? well it has reviews of all the anime and manga

productions ever released, features a great encyclopedia about anime, manga, people related to

the art, companies, lexicon, etc. and also houses videos - not only with great trailers of the most

recent anime shows but also with some selected episodes from great Japanese animation series!

Manga' list, where you can organize all the anime or manga you have seen or want to see, rate

those titles, comment them and share the list with your friends. You can as well check out the

lists of other anime fans - where you'll find hidden pearls that you never heard about or the badAnime shows that you should avoid as well! ANN also hosts periodical contests and provides

anime skins and wallpapers of every kind so any one can easily download.

Every day over 190 000 visits ANN website. It's hard to estimate how many people visit

regularly (at least once per week), but if it had to venture a guess, it would be about 400 000

people. According to its stats, over 2.7 million hosts visit ANN every month. In addition to

regular visitors, ANN's news is often sourced in print and occasionally on the airwaves.

Protoculture Addicts the magazine began publishing under ANN's editorial control in January

of that year, Macdonald was scheduled to be a panelist for the ICV2 Conference on Anime and

Background of the report:

The report titled as anime news network is originated from the essential requirements of the

course Computer and Society (CMN311). This is not only a report it also a learning process

where the students get a chance to learn the research work and also to understand research

methods.

Objective of the report:

The report is about the Anime Society. How anime news network website is helping them to get

all kind of information related to anime not only that this website also giving chance to the

anime fans so they can also add their opinion or views suggestion to this site.

The objective of the report is to research and give an appropriate idea about anime news network

how does it works for the anime fans or community.

Methodology:

Our report is about Anime News Network and to make it appropriate we came out with various

methods. Firstly we have communicated with the members of anime fan community where we

got the information why Anime News Network is important for them why they want to know all

information about their favorite anime, what change they would like to see on this website. We

also did some surveys regarding our report. From the survey it came out that all the anime fans

share the same common interest that is they love to be in a fantasy world, where they can get lost

and do whatever they want, another thing is that anime fans find animation more entertaining.

We also tried to find out various peoples idea about the anime news network. Many people givetheir option about why they watch anime movies or why they want the news related it .we also

came across with people who doesnt heard about Anime News Network website, even some

people have no idea what is actually a animation is. We also tried to take their opinion for our

research work.

We mainly prepared a survey questionnaire that provided us some numeric value of the opinion

but we got most of the suggestions and improvement area through the online interview of some

regular users of the site. We have not found a single person who is into anime and does not visit

Anime News Network. An excel sheet with drop-down options were sent to the user of ANN and

as well as to the members of Bangladesh Anime Society group of Facebook.

Literature Review:

We have not come across to many researches done on the same subject but there are several

surveys done by the authority of Anime news Network. But the results are not for publicviewing. We found a survey on active anime related sites that had Anime News Network in

number three from the top. The survey was done by Active Anime website.

surveys and mostly with close-ended questions. We were looking for some expert opinion on

Anime News Network but have not found any.

Analysis of the Data:

We have sent the survey question to the registered user of the website as well as to the members

of the Bangladesh Anime Society and requested them to complete the survey. About 10members of the group answered the survey questionnaire and all the questions were answered

and amongst hundred questionnaire that were sent to the users of Anime News Network, we

came up with 90 fully answered survey sheet. So our sample size was 100.

We can see that the overall answers are in favor of the current practices of the website and most

of the users are happy with the current features and information flow. They believe the

information to be correct as the website gives out a positive vibe to its users by constantly

keeping all the pages updated and also by allowing the users to contribute to enrich the

information. The submitted information is verified and approved by a staff member than it is

open for public viewing.

There are quite a good number of pages that got more than 80% vote that implies the users are

fully satisfied with the content of the page. The pages include Today's news, Press Releases,

News Archive, Newsfeed, Anime News Nina, Buried Treasure, Anime top 10 List, Manga Top 10 List,

Releases, Companies, Forum Profile and Forum Search engine. But the best news is that the

Encyclopedia Search Engine got 100% that the users are fully satisfied with service of that page.

Through our research we have found some interesting data like with are the pages the users think

that needs attention of the authority. Surprisingly there is only one single page that the user finds

still in need of work is the Survey section of the My ANN feature. This is the only page that

got above 50% (66%) of the vote that The page needs major changes in order to be

satisfactory. None of the other page got more than 50% vote in this criterion. Amazingly the

highest was other than the Survey page got only 35% which was about the Contest again in

the My ANN feature. This is quite an achievement for a website specially one that requires

passion both when provided and subscribed.

We had some chit-chat with some of the regular users of the website via the chat option

provided by the website of the research topic and came to know that they feel that their opinion

on the over all information flow of the website should be taken into account rather just the

opinion on the anime. That explains why the survey shows dissatisfaction of the users about theSurvey page.

Limitations of the study:

No matter how much we try, we think it is safe to say that absolute perfection is not an option.

Mistakes happen and we will not claim that our report is completely free from it. As a small

justification in advance of those mistakes, we would like to present the following limitations that

we faced while we had prepared this report:

Firstly, due to time constrain we could not conduct the survey among the number of peoplewe expected to approach. We had at least 300 participants in mind but finally our researched

survey sheet was only 100 in number.

Our work has been badly hampered by due to power cut and slow speed of internetconnection.

We could approach only few samples that were among students. Had we gotten more time,we would expand our survey on more generalized public including working class people or

older people who like anime and have been regular since the time when it was not this

popular or easy to get in our country.

Besides the time constrain, it was difficult to find secondary data on the topic. Noinformation was found in the university library about it even though we searched a lot to

acquire relevant documents about this particular topic

If someone again undertakes this research, we would suggest him/her to interview the userswith some open-ended questions who are regular and contributing constantly to the website

and as well as some of the stuff that the Chief-Editor recommends.

Conclusion:

We would like to conclude with some praises and some suggestions. The research shows an

outstanding result of user satisfaction that is reflected through the frequency of the pages they

visit and as well as the fondness of the content of the pages.

So the first thing the moderators can start with is a through questionnaire that will help them

determine where they need to focus on and how much to focus on. Again we would like to add

that we have already recommended about the preparation of the modification if they plan to go

through is that they should interview the users who are regular and contributing constantly to the

website with some open-ended questions and as well as some of the stuff that the Chief-Editor

recommends and one of the key issues should be the collaboration of the moderators and the

users. Anime News Network is a diverse website devoted to anime and anime lovers and has

been satisfying all the needs and wants of such passion and has been able to maintain a

reputation of being the most trustworthy anime database. We have seen the results and we have

recommended some actions that might prevent future dissatisfaction it has any chance of such

condition.
