PHASE 1: DO EXTENSIVE READING

1) Investigate about existing research projects: theses, journal articles or monographs.

3) Learn to search information through databases from different research web-sites, universities and libraries.

6) Select preliminary studies or research projects for supporting your research proposal.

10) From extensive reading you may identify a research area: you may focus your question on pedagogy, teacher education, sociocultural concerns, learning strategies, testing and assessment, linguistic aspects, language and technology, among other fields of study.

11) Consider your experience as a teacher and interests for stating a research question.

12) Formulate (a) research question(s). As a suggestion try to narrow it (them) as much as possible.

13) Establish sub-questions underpinning the main research question.

14) Analyze the sub-questions for establishing the specific objectives.

15) Define the GENERAL OBJECTIVE: It is the affirmative form of the research question.

17) Analyze theory: Define authors, approaches, theoretical characteristics and content words or key concepts for narrowing the theoretical framework of your project.

18) Select studies related to the problem which might answer the research question.

19) Do not include series of quotations taken from theory.

20) The literature review must organize the general dimensions of the research project which are explicetely presented in the research question.
