RCUK
• The Research Councils (RCUK) have a responsibility to demonstrate the value and impact of research support through public funding.
• RCUK use information that researchers provide on the outputs and outcomes of their Research Council funded project to report to, and engage with, both the Government and the public.
![Page 4: ResearchFish Lisa George, Project Monitoring Officer Silvia Haycox, Research Funding Manager Project Support Office The University of Opportunity](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022082611/56649ec05503460f94bcb985/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
• Collecting the outputs, outcomes and impact of research enables RCUK to:
- provide a strong evidence base to support the continued funding of research in the UK
-improve the quality of reporting about research outcomes to Government, the public and other organisations
- strengthen policy and strategy development
- develop and maintain a longer term relationship with award holders through the capture of new developments and impacts from research after an award has finished
- improve communication with researchers and Research Organisations (ROs), offering new opportunities to explore how best to capture the results of research funding
- engage and collaborate with the public, business, government and charitable organisations

Background
• Researchers and institutions were previously required to submit information about their research using two online systems. Research Outcome Systems (ROS) and ResearchFish.
• As part of a Research Council UK (RCUK) project, Research Councils have now harmonised on a single reporting system. ResearchFish.
![Page 6: ResearchFish Lisa George, Project Monitoring Officer Silvia Haycox, Research Funding Manager Project Support Office The University of Opportunity](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022082611/56649ec05503460f94bcb985/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
What is ReseachFish
• The system is an online facility that enables research funders to track the impact of their investments.
• The web portal connects funding organisations, researchers and universities, linking up individual research outcomes with multiple funder contributions.
• Researchers are expected to log the outcomes of their funded projects on this system.
![Page 7: ResearchFish Lisa George, Project Monitoring Officer Silvia Haycox, Research Funding Manager Project Support Office The University of Opportunity](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022082611/56649ec05503460f94bcb985/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
• It is currently used by 90+ funders to gather information from researchers about the outcomes from their work. All seven UK Research Councils now use Researchfish.
• Award holders are expected to use Researchfish to submit an up-to-date record of the outcomes of each award annually during the period of the award and for about 5 years after the end of the award.

• Reporting on research impact is mandatory.
• It is a shared responsibility of both the Principle Investigators and the University.
• Following the reporting process is a compliance requirement for the award of UK Research Grants to the University.
