10. SETTLERS WALK (CAVENDISH)

Established as a memorial to the Solider Settlers, the mid 50’s pioneers, ‘Settlers Walk’ brings our past back to life via brief stories on plaques affixed to volcanic rocks situated along

the river. Entrance to the walk is through the garden beside the Police Station. A plaque can be seen as you enter through the hand gate. Settlers Walk provides picnic areas and pleasant pathways with wheelchair accessibility.

11. ROCKLANDS RESERVOIR AND THE BLACK RANGE STATE PARK

The Rocklands and Black Range area is a picturesque block of public land, rich in flora, fauna and history. Lying to the west of the Grampians National Park, the area includes the Black Range State Park, Rocklands Reservoir,

Claude Austin State Forests and many smaller reserves. The area is popular for a wide range of outdoor activities including camping, fishing, boating, horse riding, bushwalking and nature study.

KANAWINKA GEOTRAIL

Wannon and Nigretta Falls, Mt Eccles, Mt Napier, Mt Rouse, Byaduk Caves and the Lava Tumuli (blisters) are all part of the Kanawinka Geotrail encompassing western Victoria and south-east South Australia.

Volcanic eruptions began in this area approximately 20,000 years ago and continued until approximately 8,000 years ago. The volcanic plains which encompass western Victoria and south east Australia rank as Australia’s most extensive volcanic province.

MT ECCLES NATIONAL PARK

Situated 45km (1/2 hour) south of Hamilton, Mt Eccles is surrounded by 6120 hectares of national park and boasts Victoria’s highest koala population and largest Manna Gum woodland - koala’s favourite food.
