introductionThe movie I am going to be talking about is resident evil retribution, the whole franchise is based on the horror game Resident Evil. Paul.w.s. Anderson directed and produced the film, the company that made it was Screen gems.

The actors and actresses are: Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Michelle Rodriguez, Kevin Durrand, Shawn Roberts, Aryana Engineer, Oded fehr, Colin Salmon, Johann Urb, Boris Kodjoe and li Bingbing. This film series is actually the one that made Milla a star.

These actors made resident evil a big hit because the movie made $240, 159, 255. Many of the stars have appeared in past Resident Evil movies, however this resident evil made a huge hit because of all the classic stars from the original film such ass Jill Valentine who is played by Sienna Guillory and Rain who is played by Mitchell Rodriguez are there.

The genre of the movie is hybrid horror and sci fi. In the past resident evil movies have been strictly horror but resident evil retribution has a mix of which attracts a large audience, fans of both genres.

• The synopsis of the plot is basically about a women called Alice and she fights her way to end the virus which has reached the whole world and some old friends helping her along the way.

Mise-en-sceneAs soon as you see the opening frame of the scene you can clearly see that Alice is underwater also she is also rising up which indicates/signifies that the movie is rewinding back on what happened to Alice. Also when Alice is rising up the water gets lighter and lighter while behind her the water is very dark which symbolizes death and illustrates the near-death experience of many people. Alice is central in the frame and lite from behind is given a silhouette effect which heightens her mystery. The light deepens in several shades of blue to black giving an air of mystery of the shot.

Now the setting has changed from the sea to a big ship where there is a battle between the umbrella corporation and Alice. The ship is in middle of the sea with no other human contact, which shows that no help will come. as it rewinds back it shows the soldiers in a cargo plane who are going to jump out.

This is a screen shot of the ending of the opening showing the isolated positioning of the ship which creates the mood of loneliness, and the sea is dark which also creates the mood of fear and death. In the scene black and white mix together as it goes neat to the front the colours get darker.

soundThe sound of the opening clip to the movie is a sound track called flying through the air, this music adds the tension to the battle it makes it more dramatic and draws the attention to Alice and her battle.

Non diegetic soundWhich is the music flying through the air which is a soundtrack which adds the tension to the clip.

The lighting of the opening clip is dark grey mixed with dark blue and black, they have used this because they wanted to create a dark scene which indicates war and death. Also on the ship there is bright fiery explosion because of the bombs, the planes are firing bullets which is creating a flashing light and Alice is creating the same flash from her shotgun.

Dark blood is also used to create the bloodiness of war.

Lighting

costumeThere is a huge variety of costumes which symbolizes each character. Alice’s costume is is black with a brown gun strap which shows the audience that she is the fighter. In the clip there is also the umbrella soldier's in all black and black helmets which shows that they are the enemy.

Jill is wearing a purple clothing with a red robotic bug on her chest, this shows that she stands out of all the others because firstly she is one of the main charters and that she is the leader of the enemy's. the background actors are wearing al white which symbolizes pureness and freedom, but it is taken away from them by the enemy which kills them.

propsThe props that are used in the opening clip are mostly guns. At the beginning Alice has two shotguns which shows that she was in a battle, also many of the agent dressed in black have guns as well. There are also iconic props used as well for example in the clip there are helicopters and a destroyed plane which symbolizes that it has crashed in a battle zone.

The most iconic and most important prop in the clip is the big tanker ship were battle is happening.

Just after the opening of the movie it goes to almost like a talking head with Alice speaking. Not only the clip is rewinding back Alice is explaining of how the virus spread since the beginning, she it flashing back to the first Resident Evil all the way to Resident Evil Retribution.

Mise en sceneThe opening of the ending of Resident Evil Retribution starts of with a birds eye view of the seal in the white house were the president lives then you see Alice walking in. This symbolizes that the white house has been over taken by the enemy in the film.

Then it turns into a medium shot of Alice talking to Wesker. Wesker is sitting in the presidents chair with the American flag at the bag which shows and symbolizes that he has total control of the country and has power, it then almost fast forward of Wesker injecting Alice with the virus. It shows the virus traveling through her body which will give her super human abilities.

After Alice is injected with the virus a close up of Alice face saying to Wesker “I'm going to kill you”. The scene turns from the office to the outside of the white house on the roof where there is the army shining the light into he sky which shows that there are looking for something that is going to attack them, also there are sandbags which indicates that they are in a war.

This is a very powerful part in the clip because you see all the characters that survived with the whole apocalypse then together walking with the enemy and looking over the city which is in ruins. Also Alice is in the middle of the group which shows us that it all up to her to save the world from destructions.

It then zooms out and shows the city in flame and destructions with creatures flying around, this shows that the human population will cease to exist.

lightingThe lighting in the office in the white house is very dark with only lights from computers or small lamps, this shows that the electricity has run out because of the war. When they go outside it is night so there is very little light, the only light is the huge lamp that is facing upwards looking for the attacker.

At the back there is huge flame with grey smoke, the whole clip the lighting is very dark which symbolizes destruction and a possible end.

costumeThe costume in the ending clip of Resident Evil is really the same as beginning. Alice is still wearing her outfit which indicates she was in a battle to get to the end, Wesker is wearing all black with black glasses and a long black coat which shows that he is the enemy. Ada is wearing her iconic red dress and Leon s wearing clothes similar to Alice but just a bit different and Jill is wearing her all purple suite.

The army are wearing there usual costume which is the camouflage uniform.

soundDiegetic sound These include explosions and gun shots because the people are having a battle with the undead and mutant monsters

non diegetic sound there is a dramatic music mixed with explosions and monsters screaming it gives a feeling that the human race will no longer exist and they have to get prepared for battle.

propsThe props that are used in the ending clip is obviously guns which is important through out the film, there is also the injection with the virus which is important because it has the virus to mutilate anyone and anything. Also the president’s office stuff like the seal carpet the desk is also used, since the scene is almost war like there is sand bags out side protecting the people and the white house.

There is also giant lights which is used to look for something in the dark, the most important prop that is used in this ending is the white house it self because that’s where the last reaming human population is.
