    RESOLUTION3

Upgrade of a Quantum HotStandby 140CPU67160 to OS Version

2.50 and Copro Version 2.50Applicable to Product Range(s) : Modicon Quantum

    Resolution Number: 190881 Revision: 1.0

Goals and SymptomsDuring the upgrade of a Quantum HotStandby 140CPU67160 to OS Version 2.50 and Copro V2.50,some difficulties could be encountered to set up a proper HotStandby System. A similar situation mayoccur when replacing in an existing HotStandby System a 140CPU67160 whose PV is under 16 by a140CPU67160 PV16 one.- The switchover to perform the upgrade of the second CPU while running is impossible even if thesystem bit %SW60.4 is set to 1;- The Standby Processor remains Offline.

Causes and FixesIn a 140CPU67160 Hotstandby system, the OS version 2.50 of both processors must be used withCopro version 2.50 only. The new Copro firmware V2.50 is not compatible with Copro Versions prior than V2.50 (2.11IE78,

2.11IE79 and 2.11IE80). Thats why, the mismatch between Copro 2.50 and previous Copro versionswill not allow the switch, even if the system bit %SW60.4 has been set to 1.A next Copro Firmware version will fix this behaviour and will enable an OS CPU upgrade while theprocess is running.

Warning: The upgrade of a Quantum HSBY system to the OS version 2.50 and Copro version2.50 needs a total stop of the process.Consequence:If a shutdown of the process is not possible, please dont try to upgrade CPUsto V2.50.

1 - If you need to upgrade to OS Version 2.50 and Copro Version 2.50Please refer to the following document to perform this upgrade to OS Version 2.50 and Copro Version2.50 in Stop Mode: Upgrade a Quantum HotStandby System to OS V2.50 Copro V2.50.doc

2 - If the upgrade to OS 2.50 is already in progressThe mismatch between Copro 2.50 and previous versions of Copro will not allow the switch, even ifthe system bit %SW60.4 has been set to 1.To set a proper HotStandby system, it is necessary to upgrade both Copro Version to V2.50 and toupgrade also both OS Version to V2.50 but that needs a total stop of the process. Please refer to the upgrade procedure to OS Version 2.50 and Copro Version 2.50, in the paragraph1.

If the process cant be stopped, you can choose:

    - To downgrade the OS Version and the Copro Version of the Standby Processor to the previousversion (identical to the OS and Copro Version of the Primary Processor), to recover the initial

situation;- Or to update both CPUs to OS Version 2.42, Copro V2.11IE80, as this update can be done inRunning Mode.

Example:During the upgrade, you can end in the following situation:

    Primary Processor Standby Processor

    OS Version V2.50 V2.50

Copro Version V2.11IE80 or less V2.11IE80 or less

If System Bit %SW60.4 is set to 1, the Standby is in RUN Standby Mode. However, this HotStandby configuration is not stable, because once System Bit %SW60.4 is resetto 0, the Standby goes in Offline Mode. This is due to an incompatibility between OS Version 2.50 andCopro Version V2.11IE80 or less. Thats why, it is mandatory to use OS Version 2.50 only withCopro Version 2.50.

To set a proper HotStandby system, it is necessary to upgrade the Copro Version to V2.50 but thatneeds a total stop of the process. If the process cant be stopped, from this actual situation, you can choose:- To downgrade the OS Version of the CPU to the previous OS Version, to recover the initial situation;- Or to downgrade both CPUs to OS Version 2.42, Copro V2.11IE80, as this downgrade can be donein Running Mode.

3 - If you want to replace a 140CPU67160 OS Version 2.42 or less, Copro Version 2.11IE80 orless, by a 140CPU67160 PV16 (OS Version 2.50, Copro Version 2.50), in a Running HotStandbySystem

To replace a 140CPU67160 OS version V2.42 (or less) and Copro version V2.11IE80 (or less), with a140CPU67160 OS Version 2.50, Copro Version 2.50, you have first to downgrade this CPU to thesame OS version and same copro version as the ones of the Running Primary.

Note: The 140CPU67160 processor PV16 is delivered with OS version 2.50 and Copro version 2.50.Please refer to the following downgrade procedure of a 140CPU67160 PV16.Downgrade a Quantum HotStandby System from OS V2.50 Copro V2.50.doc

Caution: If you download an OS version 2.31 or lower in a Quantum HotStandby 140CPU67160whose PV is equal or above 13, you wont be able any more to change the OS version another time.
