Island ResortA resort is a place used forrelaxation orrecreation, attracting visitors
forholidays or vacations. Resorts are places, towns or sometimes
commercial establishment operated by a single company.
Towns which are resorts or where tourism or vacationing is a
major part of the local activity are sometimes called resort towns. If
they are by the sea they are called seaside resorts. Inland resorts
include ski resorts, mountain resorts and spa towns.
Visitors to island resorts are primarily beach and nature lovers,
who seek a resort that is well integrated into the surrounding
landscape. Island resorts are typically developed in environmentally
sensitive areas, with casita-type building construction, and the success
of the design is particularly dependent on the relationship of the resort
buildings with the topographical, ecological, and climatic factors of the
site. A design distinction should be made between public spaces and
private areas to create variety and atmosphere. Guestrooms and
restaurants should have views.

Planning at Local levels
There are three main approaches to the interface between the resort
and the natural environment upon which the success of the resort
depends:
1. Conservation and preservation of existing forests, wetlands, and
historic buildings.
2. Renewal and replacement of damaged environmental heritage,
reforestation, and restoration of wetlands.
3. Construction of amenities that enhance the location.
Terms to consider in planning:
Geographical and geological site survey
Natural flora and fauna
Social and cultural conditions
Historic elements
Financial analysis
Economic conditions
Infrastructure planning
Marketing

Entrances
The guest first impressions of the external approaches to the main
entrance define the characteristics of the resort. The main design
features are landscapes, lighting, and good circulation. Traffic isseparated into distinct classes for accessibility and the control of
congestion, according to the daily volume of arrivals. The following
should be considered:
Separate hotel entrance for coaches and luggage handling.
Separate entrances for conferences and banquets
Controlled access to residential areas
Separate access to the clubhouse
Special paths for pedestrians
Main Entrance
Land Use
Land use is concerned with site organization, circulation, and the
relationship of function and local environmental characteristics, spaces,
and volumes. From the outset, details of the local climate and
topography form an essential background for decision making and
design.

Infrastructure
First, studies must access the capability of an area to support the
resorts requirements (per volume of visitors a year) for utilities, such as
potable water, sewage, and waste disposal; power supplies; andcommunications.
Transportation
If guest are to be brought to the resort, and food and materials
delivered, then materials must be imported before any construction can
begin. Access by means of a good transport system is thereforeessential. Land must be available of sufficient size and capacity at no
great distance from the resort for the purpose of installing an
international runway, but construction plans may be delayed over
several years and coincide with market expansion.
