Jennifer L Maclachlan Most chemical professionals have a Linked-In profile but don't take advantage of this powerful social networking tool. Attend

this session if you want to learn why you should login frequently, update your status regularly, join groups, participate in

discussions, follow companies, endorse and/or recommend colleagues. Examples will be given of how effective this social

media vehicle can be for chemical professionals from industry, government and academia.

ChorghadeThe Small Chemical Business Division of the American Chemical Society is participating actively in the ACS EntrepreneurshipInitiatives designed to create jobs and meet the challenges of tomorrow. Our goals and strategies encompass 1) Helpingentrepreneurs create jobs by facilitating more affordable access to key resources like information, expertise, importantservices for startups [HR, finance, etc.], and mentorship 2) Improving the business environment for startups by increasingadvocacy of relevant policies at the federal and state levels 3) Partnering with academic institutions to promote awareness ofcareer options that involve entrepreneurship 4) Publicizing the challenges and successes of entrepreneurs andentrepreneurship in the chemical enterprise.

Anahita WilliamsonNew York State has invested in the NYS Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) at the Rochester Institute of Technology towork in collaboration with academia (Clarkson, RPI and University at Buffalo), industries and communities on thedevelopment & implementation of innovative solutions that create jobs, reduce environmental footprint and contributetowards a more sustainable New York. NYSP2I has 7 core programs to carry out this mission including Direct ClientAssistance, Applied Research, Green Technology Accelerator Center (GTAC) and Sustainable Supply Chain & Technology(SSC&T). NYSP2I also utilizes sustainability tools such as life-cycle assessment and Lean, Energy & Environment (LE2) toassist companies in developing future designs, optimizing manufacturing processes and reducing manufacturing costs andenvironmental footprint.

This presentation will focus on NYSP2I's core industrial programs and associated case studies that describe theimplementation of solutions for industries and communities in NYS.
