From the Principal
Staffing 2016
In the last newsletter I announced the new class structure showing teachers and classes for next year. By now you will
know your child’s class and room number. There are quite a few room changes next year as we have an extra class. In
order to accommodate them to be in close proximity to classes in the same level we have made a few adjustments.
Foundation (Prep) will now be housed in the two classrooms that were previously 3/4 classrooms. The two 1s will be on
the left hand side of the central courtyard and the two 2s will be on the right.
The Year 3 and 3/4 will be nearest the play equipment and the Year 4 will go into the BER building in what was the Music
Room this year.
Music will eventually be in a new portable that we are having put on site hopefully sometime in the New Year. Chinese
(Mandarin) will be in the Library. However if the new room is not on site for the start of the year, Music will be in the
Library and Chinese will go from class to class.
Many of you will remember Helen Heller, 5/6 teacher for many years. Helen took some time off this year and has now
decided to retire. I would like to say a big thank you to Helen for her many and varied contributions to the school. Helen
has been at the school for many years as teacher, leading teacher and school councillor at times. She was a natural born
teacher and her strength was the way she developed strong and close relationships with the students. Many of these stu-
dents came back from Secondary School just to say hello. Helen was very well respected by staff, students and parents
alike and will be sadly missed. I am sure you will join me in wishing Helen all the best for the future.
Gabby Luscombe, our Indonesian teacher is also retiring at the end of the year. She was instrumental in implementing
another language to Chirnside and we have all enjoyed learning about another culture. We wish Gabby all the best in her
pursuit of other interests in her retirement.
You will no doubt have noticed that one of our other teachers, Helen Steer is also not in the mix of staff. Helen is taking
some leave next year and so will not be leading the Foundation team next year.
It has been a very busy last few weeks with many successful events. The Carols Night was yet again a wonderful night
and after an ‘iffy’ start we were very lucky with the weather. Several thank yous need to be made - to Sue Martin our Mu-
sic teacher for organising this very popular event. To the Parents and Friends who were a wonderful support in cooking
the sausage sizzle and organising the raffle and to Peter Harris and his crew from Oxley who were marvellous in ensuring
our sound system was functioning tip top and their band great to listen to as an intro to the night ……a huge thank you.
We are very lucky to have their support for our community; the night would not run nearly as smoothly without them.
Our Prep Celebration Day was a highlight for the Foundation students. It was very well organised by Helen Steer and
Renee Barnden.
Thanks also to Renee for organising the Prep 2016 Information Night and the final Prep Transition. I notice that many of
the new Preps already have siblings at the school so are probably already used to the school. Whether it was that that
made a difference I don’t know but certainly when I peeped in on the new Preps in their transition class they were a very
settled bunch. We look forward to welcoming them full time into our Chirnside community next year.
Graduation was of course the highlight for our Year 6 students and organising that was a team effort. Thanks to Martin
King, Joanne Guenther and Lynn Francis and a special thank you to Di Wilson, one of our ex teachers who assisted in
making the DVD for the students.
Many people support our school throughout the year. Our wonderful Parents and Friends committee have been very active
in fundraising and have had a very successful year raising over $17 000 –a big thank you to them for all they do. Also
thank you to the School Councillors who come to the meetings once a month and assist with policy decisions and donate
their time in various ways.
As this is the last newsletter for the year I will take the opportunity to wish you all the Season’s Greetings and hope you all
have a relaxing break. I look forward to welcoming you all back on Thursday 28 January 2016.

Student Achievements Over the weekend Dakoda.M in 3/4Acompeted in the Underage State Swimming Championships at MSAC. She
competed in the 50m freestyle and clocked a scintillating PB of 32 seconds. This amazing effort placed her 36th
in the State for her age group. Dakoda has other events coming up during the week. We wish her all the best and
can't wait to hear how she went!
CPPS Sports Uniforms Last week a number of students in Grades 5 and 6 received a notice informing them that they were still yet to
return the CPPS Hooptime basketball singlet to me at school. These MUST be returned to me, washed, this
week please.
Fun Run Congratulations and thank-you to everyone who raised money for our school during the 2015 Fun Run. We
raised a total of $1319, minus $219 for all the prizes, means a grand total of $1100 will go towards our school
for equipment and classroom resources. A special mention to the following students for their amazing fund rais-
ing efforts... Samantha. R $160, Harry and Charles. W $110, Tom. D $80, Holly. W, Taliah. B $75, and Tegan.
M $60.
Enjoy the holidays everyone, stay active and protect yourself from the sun by wearing a hat, sunscreen and

Surfing Excursion
It was an early start to the morning but a delightful one as well. We were going surfing! Our first stop
was Amaz’N’Things. We played mini-golf, after a few missed shots our ball finished up under the fence,
in the gutter! On one hole we had about 20 hits! Maybe a little more practice is needed!
Inside we had a go at the Drop Slide. I was a little freaked out because the bar we had to grab on to felt
slippery. I conquered my fear and I gave it a go. While I was dangling over the slide I was petrified! But I
wanted to do it again.
Back on the bus for a few minutes to Smiths Beach and our surf lesson. We lined up for our wet suits,
collected our surf boards and walked to the beach. When we got there we learnt some safety rules about
rips and how the ocean works. Once we learnt how to do the back arch we were off and in the water.
Then the fun began! I managed to stand up five times. When we were trying to go out it was fun jumping
the waves as they were coming in. We had a few crashes and biffs in the waves. After 2 exhausting hours
we had to carry our surf boards back up the hill to the surf shop.
I want to say thank you to Mrs Martin, Miss Francis, Mrs Attwood, Miss Peterson and Miss Phillips for
encouraging us and being able to provide the fun adventure to us kids. And another thank you to the
weather for giving us a beautiful sunny day.

Prep Celebration Day! Last Friday the Prep students, along with their families, celebration the
milestone that is completing their first year of school. We are so proud of all the learning
and growing they have done this year.
The students sang a beautiful song, presented their ‘Wishes for the World’ that they will
grow up in, and then enjoyed a party afterwards.
Thank you so much to all the parents who brought plates, and particularly those who
were on the organising committee and came to set up and pack up! We appreciate your
time and effort to make the day the great success that it was.
Congratulations Prep students on a terrific year of learning!
