The enclosure contains branch connection area replacementverifications for connections in safety-related piping with combinedcharacteristics as identified in your letter. NRC Question 1
Regarding "Verification 2" in your submittal of January 25, 1985, you shouldverify the dimensions used for the "Meldolet" weld and provide a scaledrawing. You also should provide a verification for the area replacement inaccordance wi th NC-3640 or paragraph 104.3 of ANSI B31.1, 1973 Edition.

Identify the branch connections in safety-related piping with the followingcombined characteristics:

Th = specified minimum wall thickness of pipe run
tmh = calculated required minimum wall thickness of pipe per ANSI B31.1,Equation .3, 1973 Edition
do = outside diameter of branch pipe
Do = outsi de diameter o f pi pe runIf there are no such branch connections, you should so indicate. Foreach branch connection with the above combined characteristics, providethe necessary area replacement verification 'in accordance withparagraph 104.3 of ANSI B31.1, 1973 Edition.

Utilizing the logic shown in Attachment A, 13 branch connections (10Sweepolets, 2 Stub-ins with pad, and 1 Weldolet) with the abovecharacteristics require area replacement verification.
Branch connection area replacement verifications have been performed for the13 connections listed in Attachment B. The verifications for the connectionsare included in Attachment C. The Sweepolet area replacement verificationswere performed by the Sweepolet manufacturer, Bonney Forge.
