DESCRIPTION

Why do established companies have problems with innovation? Why are the lessons from Lean Startup and Lean UX so hard for them to apply successfully? How do you rebuild that startup mindset within your company? Innovation teams can hurt more than they help. For Lean UX and Lean Startup to work effectively you must stop treating innovation as a specialist activity and start seeing it as a shared company goal.

“The customary way of designing is that the architect is trained to design and then to bring in engineers to translate that design - make it stand up. I think that's [a] totally inadequate way of designing. I want to know whilst I'm in the process of designing. I want to know what the possibilities are.”

— Norman Foster

“It's the nearest thing I could imagine to being, to

working on a medieval cathedral where there is this broad idea of principles, but then the nature of the fabric of it was still being designed as it was being constructed.”

— Graham Stirk, Architect

“At GDS we don’t have a ‘UX team’ and no one person has a job title that includes the term ‘UX’. We have designers and researchers who work as part of multidisciplinary, agile teams and who practice user centred design (UCD).”

“each project team has a dedicated researcher working closely with the team of designers, developers, content designers and product owners
