of Mazovia. let us start with Warsaw - the capital of Poland and Mazo-

via. We recommend visiting the old Town, the tourist heart

of the city. It is busy through-out the year. every spring cafes move out of the cozy cellars and chambers to the Market Square, which is flooded with sunshine. They remain there until the cold of autumn sets in. The central point of the old Town is the Market Square.

restaurants. as we walk on the cobblestone streets along the

old town walls we will get to the Kompania Piwna ‘Podwale’ located

in a historic house, and then going further down Freta street to ‘Gospo-

icacies on the Praga side of the Vistula River, for instance at ‘Dom Polski’ (The Polish House).

About the site:The Dom Polski Restaurant (The Polish House Restau-

rant) is located at the heart of Saska Kępa, the district which is culturally diverse and admired by artists, people of cul-ture and first of all it is eagerly visited by foreigners.

It is located in a beautiful villa surrounded by the garden, where the lush and rich greenery helps to forget about the hustle of the city.In the summer you can find a moment of oblivion in the garden full of flowers, in autumn and win-ter in the orangery which is a glazed theatre of changing seasons.

About the restaurant:The restaurant is an ambassador of Polish culture and

cuisine. The menu consists of a variety of dishes available all year round and the seasonal inserts offering dishes pre-pared from products available only within a given season. The restaurant uses exclusively natural, specially selected products which results in the light, degreased cuisine; how-ever it remains faithful to the most valuable, traditional, old Polish recipes.

Dom Polski by careful study and modernization of the forgotten recipes upholds not only the Culinary Heritage of Mazovia, but also of the whole country. Numerous travels of the restaurant owner, Mrs. Katarzyna Wasilewska, inspire and allow to discover the most precious gems of the Polish culinary achievements.

The restaurant is over 13 years old, but in spite of this it attracts more and more new advocates and friends. The restaurant boasts a wide group of regular guests who con-sistently, over many years, support the staff and owners with their presence, words of recognition and, sometimes, the constructive criticism. Thanks to this, as the owner says, they can not rest on their laurels and constantly work to im-prove the quality of the services provided.

The restaurant specializes in the organization of intimate family celebrations and large events (170 seats, 250 people for buffet receptions). The restaurant has successfully pro-

moted the Polish cuisine at a few large foreign receptions. The restaurant is fa-mous for its excellent confectionary products. Its production is based on tradi-tional recipes that have been modified and improved by the chefs in such a way as to satisfy all lovers of sweets.

About the restaurant:The restaurant was repeatedly awarded for the best

cuisine and a unique atmosphere of the old Polish inn. In the evening not only can you eat well in here, but also listen to the original folk music from all over the world. The interior of the inn is decorated with taste and resem-bles the old Polish inn. The hosts themselves are willing to remind about the long tradition dating back to the times of Sarmatism. Sit down among the noble com-rades in the old inn at Grzybowo, which already in the times of the Vasa dynasty and of Jan III Sobieski enjoyed nationwide fame. While enjoying the wonderful taste of the meats and of a fine pint of excellent beer lis-ten to amazing stories about the place that hosted the most eminent statesmen. Numerous anecdotes are told by old story-phonelers. It is much more than three hun-dred years from the first records about the inn located in Grzybów iurisdictio. The place was good to arrange the inn. It was close to the royal residence by horseback and to the the elective field of Wola, where the nobles select-ed a king. There is no other place in Warsaw serving such well prepared homely dishes (such as scrambled eggs with butter, blood sausage) and a refined pork fillet, cream of boletes and chanterelles and many other delicacies. and all this at an affordable price.

Podwale – koMPania Piwna

About the restaurant:The historic house at ul. Podwale in the old Town, be-

tween the little Insurgent Monument and the Barbican houses a unique restaurant Podwale - Kompania Piwna. after passing the gate you may choose a seat in well-kept garden, which, cut-off from the urban noise, is an ideal place for long meetings in the summer evenings. If you prefer to sit inside the restaurant we invite you to an older part modeled on the Czech beer houses or the new one with the atmosphere resembling typical Bavarian inns. Both the Bavarians and the Czechs are known as experts and lovers of beer, which must be always present in Piwna Kompania (Beer Company).

The gourmets of Polish food will enjoy, among others, bigos (stew), knuckle of pork, duck or trout. Very popular are soups served in red enamelled pots. one must try the mushroom soup or kwaśnica (sour soup) with spare ribs. In addition to the permanent menu the restaurant some-times offers the monthly or seasonal menu offering dish-es with asparagus, rufous milkcap, boletuses, fresh fish.

About the restaurant:Gospoda pod Kogutem is located in a very attrac-

tive place, next to the Market Square of the New Town. at ul. Freta a modest signboard with the silhouette of a rooster welcomes guests inside. The interior is de-void of the excessive glitz, but the food offered by the hosts will long be remembered. Nowhere else in Warsaw can you eat such a dish as a rooster cooked in broth and the royal cutlet is the object of envy throughout the city. Meat served here is prepared with extreme care and por-tions are so generous that no one will come out hungry.

Not only meat dishes are the specialty of the Gospo-da pod Kogutem. even such dishes as dumplings, pota-to dumplings or noodles with hunting sauce taste bet-ter than at home. a wonderful house specialty pancake served for dessert or excellent racuchy (mini pancakes with fruits) will satisfy everyone.

Well, all you need to do is just visit the place and it is cer-tain that a number of dishes served here will make a nice surprise and will make the visit to the old and New Town even more enjoyable.

About the site:less than 25 minutes by car from the downtown

of Warsaw, on the largest water reservoir near the capi-tal, in the tourist gmina Nieporęt is a unique restaurant. Klepisko is the countryside inn with a magnificent cuisi-ne full of regional delicacies served by professional and nice service. There is room for everyone. Spacious rooms can accommodate up to over 300 people. The selection of food is impressive.

About the inn:Klepisko is a place where Polish traditions and cu-

stoms related to fun and good food are cherished. Per-fectly integrated with the natural environment and the greenery, away from any building it is an ideal place to organize recreation for employees of companies and individuals.

The folk music is present right from the door. Wa-iters and waitresses dressed in regional costumes will be happy to show you free seats. The space inside the inn is impressive because it is made of wood. Huge logs supporting the first floor and the ceiling are more than 1 m in diameter and come from the Polish mountains. apparently the building was constructed by highlanders and it is visible. The cozy, air-conditioned interior brings back holiday memories.

The menu of the inn is stunning and makes the guest laugh. Here are a few of the specialties:

Additional attractions:In its program the inn has a variety of activities making the visit enjoyable.

You can organize business meetings, training, incentive events, corporate picnics, outdoor games, balls. each event is arranged by Klepisko in terms of the music and artist performances of well-known performers. The inn pro-vides comprehensive organization of technical facilities and any elements needed to implement an event.

The building of the inn is adapted for disabled people. Its air-conditioned rooms (with a picnic and grill area) can accommodate

About the site:liw – small town located less than 70 kilometers to the

east from Warsaw at the road leading to Sokołów Podlaski is an exceptional place. lazy, clear waters of the liwiec River meander gently among the meadows. The Goth-ic Castle of the Dukes of Mazovia damaged during the Swedish Deluge is located on a small hill. The knight tour-naments are held on the vast area at the foot of the castle. The manor house adjacent to the castle tower houses the Museum-armory, presenting the history of the castle, art and weapons from diverse periods. Nearby, there is also an open-air museum in Sucha and Basilica in Węgrów with the legendary Twardowski’s mirror. In this area the delicious meal can be enjoyed in the Zajazd na Mostach liwskich (The Tavern at the liw Bridges) located right next to the road. located right on the river

About the tavern:The tavern has two rooms for 100 and 50 people which

allows the organization of special events. The host manag-ing the tavern is the real treasure of this place. even the most popular Polish dishes prepared by her taste as good as those served at five star restaurants. Particularly noteworthy is the traditional Polish bigos (stew) and pork knuckle. Mrs. Bożena also cultivates regional traditions. Thus one can taste a deli-cious potato sausage and fried fish: pikeperch, trout, tench and many others. The host says that in the tourist season she wll provide guests with boats to fish their own pikes, perches or roaches in a secluded and quiet river bend. If you get the taste of mushrooms fried at the tavern Mrs. Bożena will show you a place where you can find them in the forest. No doubt that the former princely and royal liw casphonelans would enjoy the food prepared at Zajazd na Mostach liwskich (The Tavern at the liw Bridges).

Attractions:In addition to the outstanding nature and monuments

of the region you can also actively spend time through participating in a canoeing trip. The owner of the tavern has a deck for mooring the canoes. There is also no prob-lem with parking a caravan or pitching a tent. In the eve-nings you will not miss singing at the campfire.

About the site:The small inn located at the road between Sokołów Pod-

laski and Siedlce allegedly seems to be a non-interesting place. But it is recommended to stay here for a while. Why? Home Mazovian cuisine offered by the owner deserve recognition.

excellent dishes and modest interiors are surprising. outside, there is a well-maintained garden making it pos-sible to spend a time outdoors. What is distinctive about the place: unusual, old equipment associated with history of local agriculture is arranged next to the inn. What were the functions of the devices? These question will be an-swered by the hosts - and during this time the traditional potato sausage will be roasted over the fire

About the inn:The service in this small, wooden room is quick and nice.

What is worth ordering? let us start with traditional, tasty soups. You certainly will not be disappointed regardless of what you choose: onion, pea, goulash soups or various types of borscht.

For the main course: the best choice is something grilled. The specialty of the inn is ‘Zbójnicki’ pork shoulder. a special marinade gives the meat a unique taste and flavor.

Typical homely food (such as roasted pork knuckle, potato sausage, sausages and also white blood sausage which today is quite rare) will surely satisfy the hunger of every gourmet.

The inn can accommodate up to 40 guests. In the summer there is more place due to the green garden.

About the site:The ‘Wesoła oberża’ Center of Cuisine, Fan and Joy

is always opened. It is located in Gzowo 45 kilometers from Warsaw at the road no. 61 between legionowo and Pułtusk. The Center includes a restaurant full of traditional tastes and 34-room mophone offering excellent relaxa-tion.

About the restaurant: The restaurant offers Polish food. In addition to meat

and game dishes fish in butter are the specialty. The dish-es served are prepared only based on best products. Meat, poultry, vegetables come from their own farm and cold meat is prepared in their own smokehouse. all products of pork are made from the Polish multicoloured Złotnica pig. The meat is smoked using alder wood and fruitwood. The freshness of the meat, a special marinade and the countryside production process ensure excellent taste and flavor of the products. Bread, rolls and cakes are also baked in the restaurant.

additionally, the Wesoła oberża Center organizes a va-riety of corporate events and occasional meetings tai-lored to the needs of customers. The conference and banquet room, perfectly suited to the atmosphere of this homely place, may accommodate 250 people and 400 in the case of standing receptions. The interior decora-tion is in a noble manor house style which is additionally emphasized by a bread oven which is not only a decora-tion, but it is also in use. Moreover, a beautiful and inter-esting element of the interior is the waterfall. The room is air-conditioned.

Attractions: Besides excellent delicacies the attraction is also a bowl-

ing-alley. The free standing bowling-alley building with area of over 300 m, 4 lanes, a bar and a professional bar-tender is also an ideal place for various types of events.

The restaurant is surrounded by a greenery; fish may be observed in the pond. The center also takes care of the youngest guests. at the Wesołą oberża is a playground and Zoo with thoroughbred Wielkopolski horses, a cow Tola, a bull Ferdynand and a goat Mela and also residents coming from the South america, a llama Fiona and a cam-el urwis. a mare laura and a horse Filon will eagerly pull the young couple’s carriage.

every Friday the evening dancing parties are organized for active people.

About the site:No other inn in Mazovia is as good as this one. Con-

veniently located at the exit from ostrołęka to olsztyn at the national road no. 53 (road leading to Masuria), the inn is a true culinary and cultural ‘center’ of Kurpie tradi-tion in the north-eastern part of Mazovia. after tasting original Kurpie cuisine dishish, prepared with real exper-tise and artistry you will undoubtedly repeatedly come back to this place.

About the inn:The spacious interior, though raw and in twilight,

presents the spirit of the region and the atmosphere of the old Polish inn. Paintings and prints showing every-day life of Kurps are a perfect decoration of the interior.

The kitchen specialties are the Kurpie dishes: rejbak (unique Kurpie delicacy), Kurpie Dish (dish based on sau-erkraut), Kozicowe Beer (made of juniper), fafernuchy (honey and carrot cookies) ...

The inn also serves traditional Polish, game, fish and mushroom dishes. Spitroasted wild boars and piglets, pork shoulder roasted in bread and old Polish ham with shin are served on special orders.

on sunny days you can dine behind the inn at barbe-cue in a large green area. Similarly as inside the restaurant architectural elements typical of the Kurpie region were used: śparogi, słoneczka and nadokienniki. What are these elements? – the hosts will explain this. Beneath the two thatched shelters there is sufficient space for many peo-ple. In total the inn has 80 year-round seats and, depend-ing on your needs, up to 500 hundred seasonal ones.

Attractions:The inn organizes numerous events in the summer. The largest one is the

regional fest called the Kurpie Wedding Reception. often, the knight’s tour-naments and artistic handicraft shows with the possibility to buy pottery and smithery products or amber are held there.

Thus, the ostoja Inn is not only a place where you can eat well and inexpen-sively, but also experience a real adventure.

In 2002, a big event was organized in the inn area involving the Guinness record in baking rejbak. The dish reached the length of 103, 5 m and to bake it 600 kg of potatoes and 200 kg meat were used.

of the tavern, but it is spacious, clean and neat. You can experience the real advantages of the Zajazd Rycerski in Różan while eating one of the specialties of the kitch-en. It is Pohulanka Inn. It is easy to find. at the road between Warsaw and Torun, just outside Sierpc there is the exit toward the open-air museum. You have to leave the car in the parking lot. Then you enter into the folk tra-dition world on foot. after almost 256 steps you reach the inn.

About the inn:The Pohulanka Inn is housed in the old Polish wood-

en inn. You certainly will be kindly and hospitably wel-come and offered with a number of excellent, traditional dishes.

For a starter try the bread with lard. Both the bread (eight-kilo loaves) and lard are original products of local masters. a thick chunk of bread with a solid portion of ar-omatic lard and cucumber will surely stimulate your ap-petite.

Since you tried the peasant starter taste one of the soups. Perhaps you should choose a traditional duck blood soup. You might as well take delicious żur (soup made of fermented rye flour) soured using rye bran and prepared on the basis of the white sausage (this is excel-lent). equally tasty is the local specialty: mushroom soup (based on acid of sauerkraut).

If you still want to have the main course you can order Mazovian stew (bigos) (with lots of lean meat and spices). The menu also includes: blood sausage, potato noodles with cottage and cracklings. all this can be accompanied with excellent Sierpce beer.

The owners managed to keep the interior of the old cot-tage as well as the atmosphere of this place. This restaurant is worth visiting in order to experience warmth and open-ness to the world and people. Mr. and Mrs. Krajewski creat-ed the place, where everyone will be happy to return.

The specialty of the restaurant is żurek (soup made of fermented rye flour) with sausage and egg and beef tripe cooked in broth. In addition, bortsch with kalduny (dumplings), sour cabbage soup and potato soup with chanterelle are served there. among main courses you can select meat and vegetarian dishes. You should taste the peasant roast pork shoulder, roasted pork knuckle, po-tato pancakes with sour cream and Zbójnicki pancake with goulash made of pork ham or stuffed with chanterelle.

Specialties of the regional cuisine are served in styl-ized interiors reflecting in the details a character of the old Polish inn. on cold, rainy evenings the inn welcomes guests with the heat from the fireplace, the light of candles and the nice waiter service. If you desire fresh country air just take a few steps behind the inn to move into the set-ting of streams, well-maintained greenery and carefully re-constructed cottages.

About the restaurant:The Karczma u Jakuba inn was repeatedly awarded for

the excellent cuisine. It serves old Polish dishes. Its spe-cialties include: Saganek Szlachecki (a type of goulash), Mieszki pana Zagłoby (stuffed pork), Skwiercze wątróbki drobiowe (poultry liver served on a pan), Kwaśniok na razówce z białą kiełbasą (sour soup with white sausage) and Golonka zapiekana w chlebie (pork knuckle roasted in bread). It is not possible to describe these dishes in a few sentences. Their origins go back into the Polish tradition. Their elaborate preparation increases the ap-petite. It is not enough to taste one dish. You will have to repeatedly come back to try the specialties prepared by the chef.

Residents in the area are very familiar with the fried turkey liver fried with onion. You will not find an equally tasty pork shoulder anywhere else in Mazovia.

Additional attractions:The open air museum has large wooden shelters which
