Preferred Genre

I undertook a questionnaire and asked a range of people of various age groups which genre of film they preferred out of: action, thriller, romance, comedy, fantasy, musical, adventure and other. As you can see by the pie chart the only genres that people preferred were action, romance, thriller and comedy. Action was the most popular with 55% choosing this, therefore this would be a good genre to chose as I know that this genre is popular with a range of people.

39% of people asked said that the main way in which they consume films is at the cinema, 38% said DVD and 23% said television. This will help me while I’m creating my media product as I can work out which organisations would be best to contact about distributing my film and creating the most revenue.

Upcoming Films

There is a lot of different ways that people hear of an upcoming film, the most common being on the television closely followed by teaser trailers. So if I wanted to advertise my film it would be a good idea to show my teaser trailer on the television so that more people will know about it and therefore it will generate more revenue.

What Would Make a Film More Appealing To You?

The main thing that people said made a film more appealing to them was lots of action, I will be making sure that in my teaser trailer I include lots of action to attract more people. No one said that the film being slow paced made a film more appealing so I will also make sure my teaser trailer is fast paced. Another thing people didn’t mind was whether or not a film was factual or fictional.

Mise-en-SceneThe mise-en-scene that people expected to see in an action teaser trailer were: low-key lighting, guns, cars, casual clothing, suits, streets, weapons, street clothes, tracksuits, city, night, dark clothing, combats, modern costume, bright lighting, tropical destination, bars/clubs, uniforms, city, jungle, armour and injuries. I will take into consideration all of these various things whilst creating my own teaser trailer to make sure it looked professional.

MusicWhen asked what type of music they expected to feature in an action teaser trailer people said: fast paced, r&b, tense, modern, upbeat, scary, rock, chart top song, strong beat, creates tension and matching shot transitions. I will try to find some original music that fits in with some of these ideas and maybe choose one that doesn’t to challenge the expected convention.

Do You Prefer a Fast or Slow Paced Teaser Trailer?

Majority of people preferred a fast paced teaser trailer. I will make sure that my teaser trailer is fast paced as I believe it makes it more interesting to watch and will make people more likely to want to watch the film.

Action Teaser TrailerI asked people what was their favourite action teaser trailer that they have seen and why. The reason that I asked this was so I could get an idea of what it is that people like about the action genre. The things that people said were: terminator salvation (like way camera looks as if it’s broken), taken (made the film look good), taken (is fast paced), death race (because of storyline as well as the car racing), cirque du freak (it looks like good film and its different), lord of the rings (it was original), cloverfield (enigmatic/confusion) and Miami vice (catchy song, good use of shots and gripping).

Favourite SceneI asked people what was their favourite scene from an action film and why. The reason I asked them this is so that I had an idea of what things they enjoyed in an action film and why, so that I could make my film more appealing to them. The things that people said were: taken (where girl is grabbed from under the bed – is unexpected) x2, bad boy 2 (where he takes E because is funny), die hard 4 (when car jumped from a ramp into a helicopter – amazing stunt to watch), death race (when the badies are tricked and the goodies escape – like to see good overcome bad), four brothers (when they all meet up again – you get to know each of the characters), fast and furious 2 (lorry steal attempt) and cloverfield (when bugs are falling off monster but no monster is shown).
