Why did we consult the public?
Dorset County Council needs to save money.
We need to make changes to concessionary passes to help continue bus services in Dorset.
What have we proposed?
Dorset County Council proposed this change:
Removal of free travel before 9:30am on routes that have no other services until after 10.30am.
These extra services will stay the same:
The Companion Scheme
Free travel before 9:30am for blind and partially sighted pass holders
Free travel for East Dorset passes
Consultation Period
The consultation ran for six weeks between these dates:
Thursday 1st December 2016
and
Friday 13th January 2017
Response Totals
1427 people completed the
questionnaire.
1169 people completed
the questions on the
internet
258 People completed
the questions by hand
The Results
1145 of the responses were from people who
have concessionary pass holders
279 of the responses were from people who do
not have a concessionary pass
608 (42.9%) people agreed or strongly
agreed with the proposals.
668 (47.1%) people disagreed or
strongly disagreed with the proposals.
142 (10%) people were unsure on their
view about the proposals.
These are the top 5 reasons of how people would be
affected by the proposed changes:
1. It will affect access to my health and medical
appointments
2. Early travel on my local bus route will be affected
3. It will not be possible to get to where I need to go
4. I will have to pay the fare as I need to travel early
5. Return and long journeys will become more difficult
We also asked people if they would be
willing to pay a flat fare for the use of
their concessionary pass in the future.
The results of this are shown below.
