Program Manager Chief, Reusable Solid Rocket Motor Nozzle Program 2007-2013Responsible for entire Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Motor Nozzle Program. Managed a team of 5 Program Managers overseeing day to day operations including cost, schedule, quality, technical resolution and change management. Prepared and Presented Flight Readiness Review presentations to Flight Readiness Review boards. Led effort to design, propose and build the first Ares nozzle planned as the replacement for the space shuttle. Managed transition from Ares to SLS program involving significant downsizing.
Led a $10 million program to replace two large linear accelerator X-ray machines
Voting member of Flight Readiness Review Board for Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Motor Managed annual budget in excess of $50 million dollars
Chaired change review board to evaluate and approve process and design changes
Program Manager, RSRM Nozzle Program 1998- 2007Managed the bond and assembly portion of the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Motor Nozzle program. Led the effort to replace all the nozzle adhesives with one new adhesive due to obsolescence. Implemented significant cost and reliability improvements in the nozzle joints by replacing RTV back fill with a carbon fiber rope thermal barrier.
Program Manager, RSRM Final Assembly Program 1990-1998 Directed the activities of the Final Assembly and procurement portion of a 40 million dollar enhancement program. Oversaw construction and implementation efforts for new space shuttle solid rocket motor manufacturing facilities. Presented cost and schedule status to NASA and Company management. Coordinated vendor support of aggressive schedules. Developed and executed implementation and qualification plans to bring new facilities online. Transitioned from facility implementation to Program oversight.
Manufacturing Engineer, RSRM Insulation 1988-1990Led facility teams in the implementation of new tooling and equipment for the Redesigned Solid Rocket Motor. Developed and improved manufacturing processes. Documented new and improved processes in manufacturing planning
Test Engineer, Solid Rocket Motor Re-Design TPTA Test, Huntsville, Al 1987-1988Wrote procedures for receiving, handling, assembly, dis-assembly, and refurbishment of a full diameter Transient Pressure Test Article for the redesigned space shuttle solid rocket booster. Provided integration between tooling, facilities and test hardware for startup on a new test stand. Presented new procedures to NASA Marshall Space Flight Center representatives for approval. Supervised critical handling operations and crane moves.
Manufacturing Engineer, Solid Rocket Motor, Insulation 1984-1987Led facility teams in the implementation of new tooling and equipment for the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Motor. Wrote manufacturing planning for case assembly and insulation. Developed cost savings such as automated flap sewing and sling liner maintenance.
