Statement of Purpose

“The true teacher defends his pupils against his own personal

influence. He inspires self-distrust. He guides their eyes from

himself to the spirit that quickens him. He will have no disciple.”

(Amos Bronson Alcott). With the advent of the modern trends of

education, teachers are playing an important role in choosing

appropriate materials for teaching his students. Without teachers,

there will be social deterioration and confusion. Teachers are social

educative agents that are giving their great contribution to the build-

up character and smooth virtues in the lives of the youth and make

the country a better place to live in.

Teaching considered as the noblest profession, the greatest

privilege, the challenging and a cared duty that one can undertake.

Teachers are the one who choose and design appropriate materials in

a fruitful teaching and learning process.

Intensive training in this particular field on endeavor is

fundamental essential in developing our talent as a teacher.

Therefore, prospective teachers should undergo Field Study to be

acquainted them with their responsibilities and with the problems

that they will be encountered later.

God Speed!

My observation report on interaction

Name: Janrey F. Abong, Ronel B. Beñas, Alex S. Marce Yr. & course: BSED III-B Schoolobserved:Sagay National High School_____________________________ Grade level: 4th year Section: TVE______________

Subject observe: Physics____________________________________________

Observations:

Student-to-student interaction patterns:

Students are having a good relationship with their classmates and

schoolmates. Though they are arguing in doing their activity, still they come up

with a more beautiful output. Even outside them still discussing some of their

lessons and their recreation is doing a short talk together with their classmates,

schoolmates and friends.

Student-to-teacher interaction patterns:

Students respect the teacher above any other. They greet them

whenever they see them in and out of the school premises. Inside the classroom,

the discussion is in swift flow because the students deal accordingly with their

teacher. They pay attention and give respect to her and do whatever she wanted

them to do or perform.

Teacher-to student interaction patterns:

The teacher has a good relationship with the students. She manages

well the entire class and even considered their opinions in some cases. She

knows how to handle or control their behavior. She acts as a loco parentis or

second parents to her students, she give a good advice when the students has a

problem to his or her fellow classmates.

Student-to non-teaching personnel interaction patterns:

The students in Sagay National High School don’t have a harmonious

relationship with the non-teaching personnel of the school, most especially to the

school guard. We have noticed that the students are too bossy. They don’t pay

the guard due respect. The counter effect to that is the dispute that exists

among the two, the student and the school guard.

Page 7: RESUME - Websalexmarce.webs.com/documents/FS 4 FINAL.pdf · FIELD STUDY 4 | NORTHERN NEGROS STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY 5 Exploring the Curriculum THERMOMETER CHECK Name

FIELD STUDY 4 | NORTHERN NEGROS STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY 7

Teacher-to teacher interactions patterns:

The teachers have a harmonious relationship to each other. They often

recognize the presence of one another. They use the title ma’am and sir

whenever they are interacting with each other. They give a high respect to one

another. They helped each other when one of their fellow teachers asking a

favor or help regards to the lessons or the activity that will given to their

students and also a problem that occur inside the classroom in handling

different kinds of learners behavior.

Enriching Activity

Create a scenario where any of the above interactions occur in the school. Make a script of their dialogue, bearing in mind that this partnership is built on

developing a climate of respect, harmony and cooperation.

My Script

Interaction inside the classroom

Teacher Good morning class!

Student: Good morning ma’am!

Teacher: Ok, you may take your seats.

Checking the attendance

Teacher: Ok class, you will be doing your activity number 28.

Jay, can you get the envelopes to my table and distribute it to your classmates.

Jay: Yes ma’am.

Teacher: Ok, now you have your envelope kindly start doing your activity.

Student: Ok, ma’am.

Teacher: If you have a question or some clarifications regarding to you activity, just raise your hands so that we can clarify it.

Student: Sure ma’am.

Teacher: Ok, just do your work independently.

Analysis

1. Why is a classroom a miniature of a greater society?

The classroom is a miniature because the classroom trains and

develops the students to become productive and effective citizens of the future;

the society trains the people to be effective, productive and competitive

individuals, always ready to accept the challenges the word offers. When the

students inside the classroom are productive and intelligent, the class would

likely succeed: when the people of the society are responsible, the society will

likely improve for the better. The teacher set rules and regulations inside the

classroom: the president, sets the rules and guidelines to improve a society.

These are the reasons why a classroom is a miniature of a bigger society.

2. What are found in the classrooms that are similar to what can be

observed in society?

The teachers having the authority to rule the entire class. This is

also observed in the society because only few are given the privilege in the

society to rule or govern the people. Another is the interaction that exists inside

the classroom a healthy interaction results to the healthy flow of discussion and

a harmonious relationship between the students and the teachers. In the society,

it is the government officials who establish the healthy interaction between the

government and its people.

Observation: The teacher used DLP or (Dynamic Learning Program) for giving the

activity to the class.

Situation

Inside the classroom, preparing the class and giving an activity.

The Dialogue

Teacher: Good morning class!!!

Student: Good morning ma’am!

Teacher: You take your sit.

: Get your activity number 30 and we will answer it.

: OK! Class read the question number 1 and answer.

The students read and answer the questions.

Reflections on the Dialogue

As a future teacher someday, we teacher’s must give a corrective feedback

to the students if they cannot give the correct answer. And then if the students can

give the exact answer he/she should be given a reward or appraisal from the

teacher.

FIELD STUDY 4 | NORTHERN NEGROS STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY 11

Analysis

1. How important are dialogue and substantive conversation in the classroom in terms of students’ learning?

If we say nothing, others can hear nothing; through this, we can conclude

that we will never learn if we don’t speak or listen to something. This is exactly

the reason why dialogues of teacher and students and other substantive

conversation are important inside the classroom to ensure the student’s

individual learning. They can interact through their speeches, and in return the

teacher can determine the learning’s they have gained. It would be very difficult

for the students to learn once it is only written on the board by the teacher. After

all thinking capacities of the students are far different from those of the teacher;

therefore we could not expect that would think just the way the teachers do!

2. What learning benefits could teachers and students draw from intentional classroom dialogue?

Intentional classroom dialogues can give rise to numerous benefits a

teacher and a student could obtain. Among such benefits are: The improvement

of students in terms of verbal communication, sharpening of their critical

thinking, the easy access of learning’s towards the students minds and simple

meaningful thoughts that would retain in the minds of the learners. This can also

better explain the “unclear” concepts the students are wondering with and it can

also correct misconceptions, misleading principles and other distorted thoughts

that often confuse the learner’s minds.

The learning environment is conducive for learning. There are two ceiling fans which provide good ventilation the cleanliness and orderliness is highly observable. The learning environment, there is a cooperation that exist among the students and the teacher. The healthy learning environment exists between the students. There are healthy interactions that exist in the discussion. The students feel comfortable and easy going in the environment provided by the teacher because of the cooperation of everyone and the is well-ventilated.

Subject matters are covered under the physics they are doing activities related to physics such as kinematics, acceleration and kinds of graph also problem solving.

Library has learning materials which students can utilize it. It has variety of books related to their subject physics. Internet resources are also available wherein the students can surf the net or go to the websites that can help the find and understand more about the lesson.

OUR INSIGHT AND REFLECTIONS:

The Learning

Environment

Subject Matter/s

covered

Library and /or internet

Resources

In order for the learning

environment to be healthy

the teacher should need to

promote healthy

interaction among the

students. The bases and

the fairness of the teacher

should be inculcated so as

to contribute to the

wellness of the learning

environment. A learning

environment which

established harmony and

child friendly atmosphere

could enhance the

eagerness of students to

learn more and help the

students to interact during

class discussion and when

you are given the activity.

If the students feel

comfortable with the

environment his within the

more learning takes place.

Subject matter must be

congruent to the

objectives. The topics

covered may have time

allotment, depending on

the activity presented to

them. The time allotment

should be increased so as

to enhance the learning

and understanding of the

students. As future

teachers we must used

different strategies or

methodologies to the

different multiple

inelegancies and learning

styles of the students to

ensure the better

learning outcomes.

Learning resources found

in the library and internet

is very much helpful for

students. It is very

necessary for the students

use these sources in order

to contribute to their

learning. And to let them

understand the things they

need to study. This may

also be helpful if the

students choose to have

advance study to the

subjects.

Analysis

1. Why should teachers know about the curriculum design?

Curriculum design is one of the things a teacher must know. It is one way

of making the mode of instruction more relevant to the students. Instruction

maybe beneficial if the integrated with the appropriate strategies that may cater

to the needs of the students. Healthy discussion may follow if this strategies

maybe followed by the teacher accordingly. Teachers should know about the

curriculum design because teachers are the implementer of the curriculum. Their

tasks involve planning and writing, so therefore they should know the curriculum

design. By knowing the curriculum design they could implement a good

instruction level to the understanding of the students.

2. What do most principle s and theories of curriculum development

have in common? How is the commonality expressed or spelled

out in the curriculum of the class you have observed.

The principles and theories of curriculum development have that we

observed in the class which are common, are the simple to complex learning and

pre requisites learning. These two principles are commonly used because

students their stored knowledge to answer the activities that are given to them.

Student are given activities that are simple at first then at the days passed by

the activities given to them become complex. The learners themselves are the

basis why curriculum is progressive since as time passes by the change in society

is investable which must be cope up by the learners, that also changes their

needs in order to overcome such changes that are happening around them. They

believed that learners are the center of the educative process therefore this is

expressed in the curriculum of the class of the class that we have observed by

allowing the students to express their thoughts and ideas, providing instructional

materials and strategies appropriate to their learning styles and multiple

intelligences. Provide learning activities to be experienced by them.

Analysis

1. How important is involvement of all stakeholders in the schools

programs and activities?

The involvement of the stakeholder of the school and school’s program

and activities is very important because without the stakeholders there is no

program and activities in school. They are the one participating and join the

programs. And because of the support and involvement of the parents, teachers,

school administrators and as well as the community the program are successfully

done. When the stake holders joined the programs and activities in school they

can enhance or develop their talent skill and abilities.

2. What specific principle of curriculum development justifies the

importance of cooperation and collaboration among all

stakeholders of the school?

The specific principle of curriculum development justifies the importance

of cooperation and collaboration among all the stakeholders of the school is that

the philosophy provides educators, teacher and curriculum makers united as one

for planning , implementing and evaluating the curriculum so that they can

come a better curriculum. It helps in answering what school are for, what

subject are important, student should learn and what materials and methods to

be use. Philosophy provides the starting point and will be used for the

succeeding decision making. The philosophy of a curriculum planner,

implementer and evaluator must reflect his life experience common beliefs, social

economic background and education. So that they can relate their experiences of

the student needs for the betterment of learning.

Challenges Resources Needed Planning Strategies

The DLP is a something new strategy in teaching Science in 4th Year. It is more in doing student activities as teacher she’s not sure if the student do the activity by their own. And if the student understand the activity.

The resources to deliver the lesson are just only a visual aid written on a manila paper.

There’s no need to plan for the strategy, DLP is the mandated strategy for 4th year and everything is given.

Analysis

1. How important is it for teachers and curriculum planners to anchor

their curricular plans to specific theories and principles of

curriculum development?

The teacher plays an important role in student learning. As he is the one

who prepare the objectives and designs the appropriate instructional materials. A

good teacher knows the need and necessities of his students in order to teach

his students well. As a teacher planning and unity the curriculum are the primary

role of a teacher. The teacher designs, enriches and modifies the curriculum to

suit the learner’s characteristics.

2. Aside from the teachers, who else should be involved in the

curriculum planning? Expound your thoughts.

Aside from the teachers there is somebody who played an important role in

curriculum planning, curriculum managers, and Administrators, Parents as

supporters to the curriculum, Community members as curriculum resources and

other stakeholders like the CHED, DEPED & PRC. Aside from teachers those

mentioned above have their important part in contributing in the planning of the

curriculum. And also the students, because without them there will be no

curriculum.

Reflections From your FS experience, take a look into your significant learning and

personal reflections. Express it in a simple poem. Then share it with your

classmates and FS teacher.

“Learning is something”

Have you ever think why we need to learn?

It says something that we should scheme

Thinking and not doing any disintegrating

Learning is something we need as being.

If somebody doesn’t listen he does not learn

Learning is through listening and understanding

Understanding is might in lining

Living that leads to strait learning.

Page by page from cover to cover

Doesn’t measure how you’ve learn

It’s how you communicate with attitude

That sometimes marks nothing

If the beholder doesn’t keep it something.

At the end of this activity, you should be able to give some principles

involved in designing a curriculum.

Map

1. Visit a school and choose a class to be observed. Then arrange with

the teacher that you are going to conduct a class observation.

2. Take note of the different learning environment provided in the lesson

plan or specific subject area. Generate information on the following:

objectives, strategies, and assessment tools used.

3. Find out whether or not strategies are aligned with the objectives and

assessment of learning. Make a matrix of information from the

observations made.

4. Reflect on your FS experience and share thoughts, insights and feelings in

class.

Observation

Teacher objectives:

In able to derive and apply a kinematic equation related to

displacement, velocity and time.

Describe the Strategies:

This strategy is so called DLP or (Dynamic Learning Program). This

type of strategy focuses on learning activity of the students. It helps the student

in working their activities while the teacher facilitate.

Describe the assessment tools used:

In DLP usually there is no pencil and test paper is involved. It is

more on activity of the students. It is the basis of the teacher to rate the

individual capacity of their students.

Analysis

1. Why do teachers need to align the objectives, strategies, and

assessment?

The teacher should align his/her objectives, strategies and assessment, in

order to meet the desired objectives at the end of the lesson or class. This will

be happen if the teacher instructional objectives would choose the appropriate

teaching strategies. When we say assessment it is the byproduct of the designed

objectives and it will be determined at the end of the lesson or class.

2. How should teachers align their objectives, strategies, and

assessment? Suggest some strategies.

In preparing a lesson the teacher should consider 3 important things in

teaching process; first formulate objective, second know your teaching strategies

and lastly give an assessment. In choosing a strategy it must be based or related

to learning theories or congruent with learning objectives. In teaching first to do

is plot a plan, select your lesson and know the best strategy to be used in order

your student can relate and give their time in listening. After plotting your plan

implementation is next to do, and then make an evaluation if the students have

learned.

To derive and

apply a kinematic

equation related to

displacement,

velocity and time.

DLP is a type of

strategy that

deals more on

doing an activity

to enhance the

skills of the

students and the

teacher plays the

role as a

facilitator.

In DLP the

assessment of the

students are the

activity.

There is no pencil

and test paper

involved.

BUT,

They used the

activity as the

reference in giving

rate to their

students.

There’s no more

question about the

objective,

strategies and

assessment it is

given. In fact the

DepEd

recommended this.

So the role of the

subject teacher is

to deliver and give

instruction to their

students.

Reflection

1. What has been your meaningful experience in this episode? What

make it meaningful to you? How could such an experience help you

become a better teacher?

The meaningful experience that we learned during our observations At

Sagay National High School, we learned that in handling the diverse type of

learners we teachers to be must considered the family background, religion and

socio-economic background of the students. The teachers should knowledgeable,

give more patients and understand their behaviors. If the students there’s

something a problem to his /her behavior, the teacher should take a necessary

actions by checking the family background of his/her students or what kind of

community he /she belonged and asking his/her close friend if there’s a problem

to the family.

Being knowledgeable to the curriculum, it makes as that our lesson

become effective and many students learned and understand your lessons. You a

teacher you will know if the students are learning if they are asking a question,

joining the activities that you are given, and answering the questions that you

are asking. Using an appropriate strategies in handling the different multiple

intelligences and learning styles of the students you help the students or learners

are eager to learn better. Curriculum is also related to assessment. The three

elements such as curriculum, instruction and assessment affect one another

because makes the curriculum become stronger and professional development

program, the school improvement process to assess the needs, designs

strategies and evaluate success of the curriculum content area of the program.

Overall Reflection

Nowadays we are living in the Computer Age and everything

seems to be different especially the changes in the curriculum

system. So teachers must go with the flow of modernity to enable

them to understand the fast changing curriculum. Through these, we

need to study and learn how to design and critique a curriculum so

that it will help us as a teacher to make necessary arrangements with

the appropriate tools and materials to be used in the classroom.

We are looking forward to a better and a brighter future. As

teachers we need to need to study curriculum designing and

curriculum development. As a teacher our true duty is to make our

learner learn all the concepts with deep understanding and

application in the future.

We believe that students learn through essential

understanding and teacher can achieve this through designing his

lesson and providing best essential questions. Curriculum is the total

learning experiences in the classroom wherein teacher plays an

important role in making their students learn.

Additional Entries

Teaching is leaving a vestige of one self in the development of

another. And surely the student is a bank where you can deposit

your most precious treasures.

Most teachers have little control over school policy or curriculum or

choice of texts or special placement of students, but most have a

great deal of autonomy inside the classroom. To a degree shared by

only a few other occupations, such as police work, public education

rests precariously on the skill and virtue of the people at the bottom

of the institutional pyramid.

If a doctor, lawyer, or dentist had 40 people in his office at one time,

all of whom had different needs, and some of whom didn't want to

be there and were causing trouble, and the doctor, lawyer, or

dentist, without assistance, had to treat them all with professional

excellence for nine months, then he might have some conception of

the classroom teacher's job.

The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and

pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you

with a sharp stick called "truth."

The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught,

as that every child should be given the wish to learn.

Those who educate children well are more to be honored than

parents, for these only gave life, those the art of living well.

Education is the guardian genius of democracy. It is the only dictator

that free men recognize, and the only ruler that free men require.
