Uses bullet points to describe a few relevant key achievements) that have benefited your previous employers

Do not simply list skills here! – you should use prove-it statements that describe how you used these skills effectively

If there are more than six bullet points use sub headings

Skills, experiences & education can result in achievement/’prove-it’ statements

It does not show where you got your achievements

How to write the Executive Summary

Start with Work Exp. : cut & paste your key skills & achievements into ‘executive summary’

Only indicate where you got your achievements if the organization is famous.

Do use action words, percentages, numbers etc.

Do use ‘present tense’ in this section only.

Building the Executive Summary Start by reading your Objective statement

Review your work experience &/ Course Outcomes (from your Course Outlines) and find the Hard Skills, Soft Skills are relevant to your Objective statement

Consider your other skills and transferable skills that could be included such as: drivers licence, fluent in English, fluent in other languages, data entry speed (500 kspm), typing speed 70 w.p.m. etc.

Add hard & soft skills from education and experience areas (including transferrable skills)

BETTER Executive Summary -(Notice the use of ‘present tense)

Customer Service Three years experience assisting a variety of

clients in retail environments including two and a half years at a retail optical outlet.

Recognised for using interpersonal skills to develop customer loyalty.

Receives telephone calls, resolves queries and refers calls, using a 6 line switchboard.

Building the Executive Summary

Anyone can list skills in the resume or portfolio. Instead show how you used these skills to benefit the employer like this:

Instead of ‘Good communication skills’...... Recognised for using interpersonal skills to develop customer

loyalty.

Instead of ‘Accounting skills’….. Skilled in basic bookkeeping and the accurate reporting of

financial information.

Instead of ‘Filing skills’….. Experience managing a complex medical file system. Remember – keep it ‘real’

Education comes after the Executive Summary and

before Work Experience; the format is as follows:

Advanced Marketing Diploma, George Brown College, 2010 - 2013. (if it is a 3 year diploma ).

Deans List. If you have college you do not need

to enter high-school info. You can enter high school info. if you

graduated a OSSD or Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
