PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill/Cornell Campus, New York NY Patient Care Director, Vascular Access Department 2008-Current Interim Patient Care Director, Medicine July 2015 - 2016 Reports to the Director of Nursing/Chief Nursing OfWicer Direct all clinical and administrative operations of a Vascular Access Department and 32 bed medical unit for a major metropolitan hospital with 900+ beds. Provides direction and leadership to 111 employees in multiple departments servicing over 42 different inpatient units. Formulate, monitor and manage budget of ~$9 million. Achieved budget goals for Vascular Access for past 4 years by consistently using labor analytics, creating structure for stafWing and scheduling and decreasing wastage of supplies. Provides oversight and management of specialized nursing driven Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) team. Implemented new technology and equipment to include Power PICC lines and Triple Lumen Catheters, which are placed by high technology tools including the use of Ultrasound and Sherlock, a Tip Location System (TLS). Developed, hired, and operationalized an innovative new mental health worker program on medicine unit to address mental health needs of medicine patients to improve patient outcomes and Winancial targets. Implemented PA Interdisciplinary rounds on 5C which were adopted on all medicine units to improve patient throughput and discharge planning. Counsel, coach and mentor staffs to promote an optimal practice environment for patient focused care. Vascular Access nursing certiWication rate is 54%. Implementation of a Shared Governance model of decision making on the unit; 100% of staffs participate on a council or initiative. Vascular Access NDNQI RN Satisfaction scores outperform national benchmark and NYP scores in all categories. Employee engagement scores: 4.0; 4.16 (NYP Overall 3.84). Created and implemented NYP system wide guidelines for peripheral and central catheter Wlushing including provider order sets, nursing educational tools, and nursing practice policies. Facilitated a system wide nursing practice change to have all nurses empowered and competent to evaluate and declot their own central lines. NYP Nursing Practice Council Chair: Oversight and leadership of all vascular access related policies, procedures, and practice changes. The council has achieved standardized documentation in Allscripts, billing for procedures, as well as consensus regarding vascular access procedures.
