F O R T L AU D E R D A L E O V E R V I E WThe City of Fort Lauderdale, also known as “The Venice of America” is the largest city in Broward County and the eighth largest city in the State. Located on Florida’s southeastern coast, the City is centrally-located in the heart of Florida’s most populated tri-county region approximately 23 miles north of Miami and 42 miles south of Palm Beach. For many years, Fort Lauderdale has attracted thousands of locals and visitors to the areas to enjoy its beautiful white-sand beaches and miles of scenic waterways. Beyond the booming tourism economy, Fort Lauderdale has an advantageous business climate appealing to a diverse range of industries including marine, manufacturing, finance, insurance, technology and aviation, among others. The semi-tropical climate and array of cultural, entertainment and educational amenities make Fort Lauderdale one of the “Top 25 Places to Live” and one of the “Top 10 Downtowns in the US” attracting new residents and supporting the retail market. Millennials are drawn to the City’s climate, education options and the quality of life. Recently, Forbes named Fort Lauderdale as the “2nd Happiest City for Young Professionals in the US.

T H E R E B I R T H O F F O R T L AU D E R DA L EWhile Fort Lauderdale has always had tourism, this emerging cosmopolitan city is fast becoming a preeminent live-work-play community due to large and growing residential and retail offerings and the almost 8 million square feet of office within the urban core. Additionally, two major transit projects are underway downtown; All Aboard Florida’s Brightline high-speed passenger rail is under construction and will connect Fort Lauderdale to Miami, West Palm Beach and Orlando along a 235-mile line. Also, The Wave Streetcar is planned local three-mile loop the will provide residents with frequent and convenient transportation within the urban core. These projects will dramatically change the mass transit infrastructure in Fort Lauderdale.

Named “2013 Best Domestic Port” by Porthole Cruise Magazine, Port Everglades offers cruises to more than 3.7 million passengers each year (2015). A number of capital and improvements in the Port’s Five Year Master Plan position the port to expand operation to 5.6 million passengers in 2033.
