THE RIFFThe Riff is a pedestrian street that forms a bold diagonal through East Village square street grid. This inventive bit of streetscaping starts at 9th Ave. SE and 4th St. SE - the location of Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre - and draws a line where it intersects with the RiverWalk. There’s nothing else like the Riff in East Village - or in all of Calgary, for that matter.

This improvisation on the traditional cityscape is as stimulat-ing as it is challenging for East Village developers FRAM + Slok-ker. The Riff will offer nodes at either end that invite passersby to enter a central gathering place that will offer a variety of social seating options. Varied retail - boutiques, cafes, restau-rants and public art, along with fire pits for winter warmth, will make the Riff even more of an intimate retail experience and a sheltered and welcoming destination.

FRAM + Slokker’s buildings shape The Riff as much as the The Riff shapes the buildings. Verve Q1, and soon other buildings, will form an inventive variation in a thoroughly inspiring neighborhood.
