RETRIBUTION- Characters&Casting

Page 2: Retribution characters&casting

Deciding on characters..Me and my other two group members are all A2 Drama students. So casting and directing roles are things we should definitely not have trouble with, as we know how reactions, facial expressions, character interaction (relationships between characters) and body language all work together collectively to look realistic and genuine. We are also very lucky as we can cast roles using actors from our drama class, who are all extremely talented. Here are the casting and character details we will be currently using for our main three roles..

‘Brother’JOSHUA GRUNDYJosh will be playing the character of the brother. He will need to be dressed ‘nerdy’. Perhaps jeans, a top with some kind of game or stereotypical ‘nerdy’ quote on it. Hair needs to be quite messy, so we see that he does not care too much for his looks. He needs to be quite confident in scenes with his sister, as he feels comfortable around her. But then timid, nervous, shy and quite around other people, especially around the bullies. Needs to get audiences sympathy.

‘Sister’Emily CousinsEmily will be playing the ‘sister’ character. She can be dressed quite casually ‘normal’ (jeans, t-shirt, hoody, jacket, converses **converses are widespread, you see all different stereotyped social society groups wearing them**) to help connect with the audience.Sister always seen to be rather confident, the type that fights her brothers battles for him, even amongst other people. Although, as movie goes on, we see change in her, making her more detached from the audience, so they lose comfort levels, as they initially related to this character and now do not.

BulliesWe will be using various people, as our bullies (victims to be). These characters will all be dressed completely different to each other, breaking stereotypes of ‘hooded youths’ (see next blog post for expanded explanation). So there will be a mixed bully group, from different social groups, showing equal responsibility for actions as a society that comes to ‘accept’ bullies (no real punishment for bullies in our current society). These characters will be intimidating, harsh, ‘jokers’ (they don’t fully realise damage they create. But these actors will also need to be able to show ability to look petrified when they are murdered.
