Day 1 - Wednesday 26th
March 10 cars met at Wallan departing at 11am for our lunch stop at Rusty
Springs, where we were warmly welcomed by Bob & Judi McGrath , as usual Judi had prepared some
goodies for us all, greatly appreciated. The unsealed corrugated road on the approach to Rusty Springs
gave some members a lovely feeling .!
The day was very hot & a north wind did not make for pleasant driving. Afternoon tea stop at
Wangaratta Service Centre was most welcome with drinks, ice creams & icy poles to help cool us down .
‘where were the beers’ cried all !!!
Arrived at the Motel at Holbrook late afternoon. Met (2 pet parrots whilst having drinks on the
veranda) named Adam & Eve (not Mark & Sue).
Great dinner here, fun night, we took over the dining room, then retired for the night to prepare for the
next day’s run to the Rally at Moss Vale . Ken and Barbara
Day 2 - Thursday 27th
March Holbrook to Mittagong
Another Day Travelling. Up early (for some), breakfast at Motel , then on the road by
8.55am after most got petrol we were off . The day started sunny , but that all changed. Poor
old Dave had no wipers then just before Gundagai, his petrol pump gave up the ghost, so
Dave and Wayne stopped to fix it with a new Pump then just as the rain started again they
found out what was wrong with wipers (not connected) so that was easily fixed. Graham and
Rosalee also had wiper trouble but was easily fixed too. We were supposed to meet the crew
in Gundagai but we took the wrong turn off the highway and could not find them as they
had stopped at the Dog on the Tucker Box where we eventually found them having Vanilla
slices and sausage rolls, some did not feel well after eating them. Then it was on to
Goulburn for lunch and some shopping for food for our B.B.Q for tea that night. After we
settled in to our Motel at Mittagong, it was time for happy hour before tea. After that it was
time for the BBQ. We all brought food to share with those who we not staying with us at the
Motel arrived. We all had a good night, then it was off to bed for a good night’s sleep.
Wayne / Lyn. Also, we travelled 1278miles from Ballarat to Ballarat.
Day 3 – Good Friday
After a great night’s sleep, we headed off mid-morning to the Moss Vale Showgrounds for registration
and to collect our welcome packs. We all walked around to look at the cars and to catch up with friends
from Victoria plus friends we have met from Interstate Clubs in previous years. We enjoyed a BBQ
lunch there then some stayed for the delegates meeting followed by the judges briefing while the rest of us
returned to our motels to get ready for the informal dinner and official opening at the Moss Vale Services
Club that night. We were entertained during the evening by a presentation by Richard McKellar. It was
an early evening so we all headed back to our lodgings.
Day 4 - Easter Saturday as I saw it:
Saturday was judgement day, well for some anyway, but for me it was judging day. I planned to arrive at
around 9 AM to look around before getting down to the task of helping with the judging. We were called
to the Judges tent at 10 to 10 and allocated our tasks. Eight of us in teams of 2 were to look after sections
to be judged. My off-sider and I proceeded down our rows. This gave us opportunities to see some great
ideas as we were doing some modified and custom cars, although my mate just wanted to get the job
done. It dragged on a bit and then when we thought we were finished the concourse/rally director Rick
came over and said one row hadn’t been judged. My off-sider wasn’t sure if it was ours to do but I said
“let’s get on with it”. By this time it was past most people’s lunch time but I was OK. My co-judge was
delivered sustenance from the BBQ but I was thinking more like a healthier tomato sandwich later.
We kept plodding and delivered the completed sheets to the counting team.
It wasn’t long before some drivers and their cars left the arena. The rocker racing had been done, I
wanted to see how they were to do it on the make-shift track, not the standard which I’ve been
accustomed to.
Soon it seemed the day was done at the showgrounds so I too took leave and returned to camp for a rest.
Apparently other activities had been organized, photography, quilting and some other ladies type stuff
was contested. Also a bus arrived at various times to take people to nearby markets to give them an
opportunity to off load some cash.
The evening gathering was again at the Moss Vale services Club, just a short walk up the hill from my
digs but because I’d scored a battery in the draws on Friday night and imposed on another to take it
back to camp, I took my Morry in the off chance that I might again score a heavy prize (this time a
Morry water pump). Entertainment was offered by a singer backed by his guitar and mighty fine too.
The theme of dress for the evening was ‘60’s but no prizes were offered or received for my great shirt
depicting American Woody’s. The meal, a roast, was a little more palatable than the previous night and
more of it. After dinner we were subjected to brain exercise in the form of a Trivia Quiz organized by the
Canberra people. It was a great night, the table I was on seemed to offer the right answers but the quiz
setters didn’t agree.

Day 5 - Report for Sunday Run 31st March 2013 - Highlands Cruise.
9.30am, We met at Moss Vale Showgrounds for 90klm sightseeing run in cool and overcast conditions.
Typical Morry weather but then out came the sun.
The men contributed to improving the running ability of Mark Parritt’s van and more photos taken.
10.15, Left Showgrounds-very impressive with 125 Morris Minors in all colours and models. All the 15
MMCCV vehicles looked great led by "The Million" with Richard & Bill McKellar out the front.
"Tweetie Bird" nearly suffered the same fate at yesterday’s accident corner. Wingecarribee Reservoir,
very impressive water spray at the spill way. Pleased we did not have to travel on new road surface with
loose stones for very far. A little off road driving needed among many firsts for "The Million".
10.45 Beautiful stone walls at Kangaloon. Think I would like the property behind the walls. Wonder what
the motor bikes thought of all the Morries they shared the road with in the undulating hills and on the
long hill coming into Robertson.
11.00 At Fitzroy Falls we got lots of waves at Grandpa's Shed. This road is a good test for Morris
suspensions. Bundanoon is the second visit for our green Morris Van as we attended the 1st National
Rally in 1983, when owners and van a lot younger. Our present Club Captain was 4 years old and the
grandparents shared the 3 children. Back then our hotted bright blue series 2 Van had an experience
while on the way to Kings Cross without, Ann & Ross!! We had to have it freighted back to Melb.
-Exeter and Bundanoon are a little bit of England. Ross & Ann tested their 30 year old memories. Went
past the Reserve where the 1st National Rally was held. Easter Bunny in a swing watching Morries pass
by made us all smile.
Lovely old stone railway bridges and Stations were also seen on route. At Exeter, a double line road
crossing for a pit stop is not recommended and many continued onto Sutton Forest.
12.00 Arrived at New Berrima for lunch after 1-3/4 hour drive. Several delicious soups to choose from,
followed by the famous Robertson fruit pies and cream. All washed down with tea, coffee and biscuits.
1.20 To Berrima after lunch for a look at this historic area, then disaster struck. David & Carol Bamford
in "Miss Molly" broke an axle and guess what? It then started to rain lightly. "Miss Molly" was not
having a good Rally, fuel pump problems on the trip up and front wheel bearing at Mittagong.
2.45 Back on the road after coffee and look around by the girls and car talk by the boys while waiting for
Richard to bring car trailer from Moss Vale to pick up "Miss Molly". Many thanks Richard for your
help. This is the first and longest run for "The Million" and Richard was concerned for his special mauve
Morris Million. Carol's creatures in the back seat had a privileged ride in the custom built "Minor
Million" trailer, even if a little scared in the dark.
3.00 Now at Pam & Rick Haynes home at Moss Vale for "Many Hands Fast Repairs". Graham Dines
returned later after taking some of the girls home with the necessary diff oil and cool refreshments for
the workers. How many men does it take to change an axle? Percy S. has a 45 minute record at Lakes
Entrance, this time I am assured had extenuating circumstances.
Five Morris mechanics answer to why it took 1-3/4 hours.
4.45 Now off to various accommodation to remove grease and get ready for the Presentation Dinner .
6.00 At the very up market Mittagong RSL, 20 MMCCV members arrived in 2 taxis vans from the
Poplars Motel, so no-one could be charged with over the limit in a Morris. We learnt that Jeff Stanyer’s
starter motor had a part disintegrate and he in usual Morry style got around the problem. After a lovely
well organized buffet dinner it was Trophy time. MMCCV won 9 trophies, including the Reg Tilley
Memorial Perpetual Trophy for best Convertible by Lesley Dines. Overall Concourse Standard Trophy
won by Richard & Bill McKellar with the "Morris Minor Million". To top the very successful night off
Carol & Dave Bamford received the Hard Luck story trophy for "Miss Molly's" mishaps and Ken &
Barbara Urquhart won a basket of car items in the raffle. Congratulations to all the members and
winners for providing vehicles that made a high class display. It was great to catch up with Geoff
Parsons, former MMCCV member who was official photographer for the Rally and now lives at
Narooma on the South East coast of NSW.
10.30 Back to our accommodation for a good sleep after a happy and successful day before the return
trip back home tomorrow.
Thanks go to the Southern Highlands Morris Minor Car Club for a great Rally.
Thanks also to Rick & Pam Haynes for the use of their carport to repair "Miss Molly" much appreciated
by the "Many Mechanics" on the day.
By Ann Carr
Editor’s Note :-

Day 6 - National Rally Monday 1st April
It was up for an early start for our trip back to Melbourne after such a big night at the Presentation
dinner. Richard, Bill and Claire McKellar had departed even earlier in the morning. Our first port of call
was the Farewell Breakfast at the Moss Vale show grounds. Great food: cereal, toast and a full cooked
breakfast. Then it was time to go, so we farewelled Geoff and Bev O’Donnell, Graham and Rosalee
Harper, Jeff and Julie Stanyer, Jo and Kelvin Hawkesworth who were making their way home at
different times or by different routes from our convoy. Ann and Ross Carr, Phil Plumbe and Liz Sambell,
Jessica and Travis Milne had all said goodbye the night before. We all also farewelled the many old and
new friends we had met from other clubs during the rally.
There were seven cars in the convoy that set off for our overnight stop at Holbrook. All went well until
we were about 70km from Holbrook when Dave and Carol advised that Miss Molly had a problem.
When we pulled off the road, Miss Molly’s engine was making knocking noises. It turned out there was
no oil in the engine and the radiator was a bit low on water. As the engine had only been rebuilt a few
weeks previously, Dave phoned his mechanic to try and find out what the problem could be, as we
couldn’t see where the oil had gone. There had been no black smoke and no sign of an oil leak. In the end
we decided to put some more oil in the car and see what happened. Fortunately all sounded good after
this, so we took off again at a slower pace. A short time later Wayne advised he had a puncture so there
was a further quick stop to change the wheel. We finally arrived in Holbrook about 4.00pm. Miss Molly
was still running well and still had plenty of oil so we all had well earned drinks! At 6.30 we headed of
for dinner at the Holbrook Services club around the corner for our motel. (Walking distance.) The meals
were delicious and a good time was had by all but having a long drive ahead of us the following day, we
retired early for a good night’s sleep.
Day 7 - Tuesday 2nd
April
Our last day. Wayne had been out early and had managed to get his puncture fixed. Our first stop was
the BP service centre at Glenrowan for fuel and coffee, both much needed. Miss Molly was still going
strong and still had plenty of oil. (A mystery yet to be solved). As Dave and Carol were leaving us at
Avenel, Graham & Lesley, John & Ann, Ken & Barbara and Lyn & Wayne, decided to make it a lunch
stop. Leigh Smith, Sue and I decided to keep going as we had a lot further to go than the others. There
were no further problems and we all got home between 3.00 to 4.00pm.
I would like to thank the Southern Highlands Club for putting on such a great rally. I am already looking
forward to the next one in 2015 to be organised by the Albury Wodonga Morris Minor Car Club. If the
rally is anything like the Morry Musters it will be fantastic!

RACV CLASSIC SHOWCASE
After spending the day before cleaning and polishing the ute, I was ready to go. I left home and headed to
Flemington Racecourse and upon arriving, I was greeted with a happy face and a showbag. I made my
way around to our usual spot to find a number of fellow members had already arrived. I backed the ute
into position and pulled out the gazebos.
A few members helped us set them up and then it was on to look at all of the fantastic cars. The
Mercedes Benz Car Club and the MG Car Club both had their annual concourse so the cars were all
looking shiny.
In the afternoon Mark asked me to look at his van as it has been down on power and using lots of fuel. I
proceeded with the usual things and managed to make it run better but I left Mark with a list of thing to
do once he got home.
Soon enough the day had flown by and it was time to go home, I went and started the ute, letting it warm
up. Then it started to run funny, my quick diagnoses was the point in the fuel pump had stuck. I had
pressure washed under the bonnet on Saturday I think they may have go a little wet. A quick tap and we
were running as normal again.
I made it all the way home without fault and have driven it to work & back for over a week and it is ok.
It was great to see so many people there, those who attended were.
Stewart Carr, Mark Parritt, Ian Kuhne, Jeremy Rodseth, Henry Edwards, Graham & Lesley Dines, Don
Green, Brian Moore, Warren Corlett, Wayne Cunningham, Bruce Kerr, Kate Hudson, Richard
McKellar, Bill McKellar, Ryan Desira, Laura Jennings, Gary & Sue Turner, Martin & Cindy French,

President’s Report May 2013
Hi to you all,
It has been another busy month for Sue and I with a number of personal and club Morris Minor
activities. First was a run on the Mornington Peninsula to Flinders with some new friends (Colleen & Ray
from Bundaberg) who we met at the National Rally. It was a great day for a run and a picnic as the
weather was at its autumn best and the countryside around the Peninsula looked superb.
Next it was off to the Pakenham Federation Picnic. Again the weather was great and it was an excellent
day out. There were only a few from our club present so we mixed in with members of the Morris Car
Club of Victoria and Ray & Colleen. Congratulations to Lesley Dines and Baby Blue for winning a
trophy for the best Morris car of the show. (More in the run report).
To cap the month off, it was off to Flemington for the Classic Showcase to Celebrate 100 years of Morris
Cars. It was great to see so many of our club members there. There were also a good number of Morris
cars from the Morris Car Club of Victoria on display and as we were all parked together we put on a
great show of different types of Morris. The only disappointment, there were no vintage Morris Cars on
display. (More in the Run report).
Our next run is to Bonny Doon, which sounds like a fun day out, so I hope to see you there or at the next
club meeting.
Keep on Morrying

I'm restoring a prewar MG TA and it has a broken diff. The fix is a 4.55 / 9:41 Morry 1000 diff centre
which goes in with very little modification. Can anyone sell me one ? or swap for a pair of 1.25 SU's on
manifold with filters off a cooper S. Please call Allan on 0417581665.
Hi there,
I am wondering if you could please point me in the direction of somebody who we could potentially hire
two Morris Minors from (including a driver), just to drive us around town for about an hour as part of
an experience for my friend who used to have a Morris Minor and just loves them.
Many thanks,Alanna 0404 863 503
