Mdm Marie Toh is seated in front of the computer in Agape Village, diligently looking through her assigned list of contacts. She adjusts her headsets and chirpily greets the caller “Hello, I’m calling on behalf of North West CDC…”

Marie, an RTW client, took part in an in-house work trial in September / October 2018 to conduct a telephone survey on residents’ use of SkillsFuture Credits. This was a collaboration project with North West Community Development Council (NW CDC).

Clients and family caregivers received training and were paired with ABLE sta� who coached them in making calls and addressing queries. Through this work trial, clients honed their communication and administrative skills, which increased their employability and confidence to re-enter the workforce.

RETURN-TO-WORK (RTW) PROGRAMME - NORTH WESTCDC CALL CENTRE WORK TRIAL COLLABORATION

Muhammad Syafiq receives rehabilitation, training and employment support under the Return-to-Work Programme.

He managed the administrative aspects of the work with ease, but he had to get used to respondents who were less patient or hung up on him.

Ever the trooper, Syafiq would matter-of-factly “shake it o� and move on to the next person (to call)”. Smiling, Syafiq added that in future he would answer telephone surveys going forward!

Marie’s easy phone manners belie her initial hesitation when she first started on the work trial.

Despite having little experience in customer service and computer skills, she gamely attended a WSQ training course in E�ective Workplace Communication and agreed to be trained as a call agent.

Now that Marie has mastered the work tasks, she looks forward to securing employment in the near future.

ABLE’s RTW programme aims to support our clients’ aspirations for independence, community reintegration and employment.

There is a comprehensive suite of rehabilitation services, such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, and Pilates Rehabilitation. Clients receive training and employment assistance to increase their employability.

ABLE’S 8TH ANNIVERSARY CHARITY DINNER

Imperial Treasure partnered ABLE for the dinner to raise funds for programmes for our clients, family caregivers and care recipients. Guests were treated to a specially designed menu at Sofitel Singapore City Centre hotel. There was live entertainment, as well as a sta� flash mob item. It was an evening of giving and sharing with guests generously participating in the pledges, silent and open auctions – we are happy to share that we met our fundraising target.
