Nicola D i Ienno was born i n C a l d a r i , county Ortona, province Abruzzi , I t a l y on October 1 7 , 1879. Angela D i Lucia was born on September 1. 1879 i n t h e same a r e a . Nicola l i v e d i n t h e town and was a butcher . Angela l i v e d on a farm. She learned t h e t h i n g s s h e would need t o know t o be a good f a rmer ' s w i f e , t h i n g s l i k e doing t h e family wash i n t h e nearby s t ream. They were married on October 21, 1898 but i t wasn ' t easy t o arrange! Angela 's pa ren t s were making arrangements f o r a marriage between t h e i r daughter and an o l d e r man, a r i c h farmer. Angela d i d n ' t c a r e f o r t h a t i d e a because she loved Nicola. Then t h e r e was t h e ma t t e r of ~ i c o l a ' s r equ i r ed year i n t h e Army, t hey had t o wa i t f o r t h a t t o be completed. They solved a l l t h e problems, they e loped. ~ i c o l a ' s family welcomed Angela i n t o t h e i r home because they loved h e r d e a r l y .

Eventua l ly , Nicola and Angela decided t o seek a b e t t e r l i f e i n America. Nicola went ahead f i r s t t o make a r r a n g e m ~ n t s f o r h i s family t o fol low a s soon a s p o s s i b l e . When Angela f i n a l l y boarded a s h i p t o j o i n him, she had wi th h e r , E l i z a b e t h aged fou r and Joseph under one yea r . H e r mother i n s i s t e d s h e l zave Dolores behind i n I t a l y . H e r t h ink ing w a s t h a t Angela wouldn' t s t a y i n America a s long a s one of h e r c h i l d r e n w a s s t i l l i n I t a l y . That d i d n ' t work, because i n a couple of y e a r s , Angela 's b r o t h e r Rocco, l e f t I t a l y and brought Dolores w i th him. ~ n g e l a ' s ocean voyage was no t t h e most p l easan t one f o r h e r and t h e two c h i l d r e n . The whole t r i p took twenty s i x days , The s h i p go t l o s t and Landed in

Canada, f i r s t . Food got sca rce and

I Nicola and Angela e s t ab l i shed t h e i r family i n Wilmington, Delaware. I n t h e beginning, Nicola worked on a horsedrawn

I wagon f o r a beer d i s t r i b u t o r . The ch i ld - r e n l i k e d t h a t , because he would t ake them f o r a r i d e i n t h e wagon on Sundays. A t

I one time he had a small grocery s t o r e . Eventually he went t o work i n t h e Round House of the Pennsylvania Rai l road Co. He worked t h e r e many years . He would love t o t ake a t r a i n r i d e t o New York o r Washing- ton j u s t f o r t h e day. Many times t h e two of them would get a Pass and t ake a t r i p . Af ter r e t i r i n g from t h e Rai l raod, Nicola worked f o r a couple of years a t Salesianum 8 t h and West a s a maintenance worker. He hated t o s e e t h e boys waste food leave t h e i r c lo thes a ~ o u n d .

She i s an a r t i s t a s a seamstress , however, a s a young woman she learned t o be a m i l l i n e r ? R i t a A . Cicchin i born May 4 , 1921 i n Wilmington married Anthony F. Rango on February 19, 1966 i n Wilmington. Tony was born incBrooklyn, N.Y. on March 11, 1926. They moved t o Norristown, Pa. t h e year they were married. R i t a worked f o r t h e Be l l Telephone Co. f o r 24 yea r s , 4 months and 22 days. She has been a homemaker s ince .

1906 in Wilmington married Lucy Cuocolo on January 30, 1932 in Wilmington. Lucy was born on May 22, 1909 in Sicklerville, N.J. Johnny is a bricklayer and had a Construction company for years. He's retired now and enjoys things like making mushroom salad. Lucy worked for the DuPont Co. as a Nylon Operator. She is retired and enjoys cooking for her grandchildren and great grandson. Johnny and Lucy cele- brated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Their childxen gave them a big surprise p arty. At this timethey are the only Di Ienno children to reach fifty years of marriage. Their children are Angela and the twins John and James.

Angela P. Di Ienno born on December 11, 1932 was married to Anthony G. Pedicone onSeptember 10, 1952 in Wilmington. Nin was born on July 26, 1927 in Wilmington. Angela is a homemaker and Nin works for the DuPont Co. as a Lab technician. Angela is on the Junior Board of St. Francis Hospital in her spare time. Their child- ren James (who was born November 9, 1953 and died November 12, 1953), John, David and Nicole.

Rev. Nicholas Clement Di Ienno O.S.F.S. was born on July 12, 1912 in Wilmington. As a very young man he was a carpenter and liked to perform in local minstrelshows. He was ordained a priest on June 5, 1943 at St. ~nthony's Church. He celebrated his first Mass the following day in Sacred Heart Church. Fr. Nick has been a very busy man. He taught in Salesianum, when it was at 8th and West and also in North- east Catholic ~ i g h School in Philadelphia. You should have seen the Operettas he directed at ~ortheast! He was stationed at St. Anthony's and at time built Fournier Hall. Then for many years he was occupied with the construction of the the Allentown College of St. Francis de Salesand the Oblate Seminary in Coopers- burg. Fr. Nick is in semi-retirement now, but if you think he's sitting around twiddling his thumbs, you don't know him!

3rd generation--Don Cicchini was in the Army Reserves; John Adams was in the Navy; Bob Parry Jr. is now in Naval Aviation.

All the generations have had vary- ing degrees of education. Nicola did have some schooling but Angela didn't. She might not have studied Math but you couldn't cheat her when counting money! In the first generation it goes from Elizabeth who finished fourth to Fr. Nick who graduated Catholic University. In the succeeding generations all the high schools in Wilmington are repre- sented, even the one that no longer sxists, Brown Vocational. There is a smattering of un-finished college in the second generation. Bunny finished two years in Santa Ana Junior College. Bob Perry is the winner, he has a couple of degrees. The young people in our third generation are doing well. They have completed or are now attending schools of higher learning at the present time. The University of Delaware is well represented and Bob Willard has his Law degree from Dickinson.

There hasn't been any mention of the brothers and sisters of Nicola and Angela, however, you might be interest- ed in knowing that one of ~icola's brothers settled in Suenos Aires, Argentina. ltqs very possible that one of our relatives is fighting in the Falklands War.
