The Adult Basic Education (ABE) program includes basic reading, writing, and math skills. These FREE classes are appropriate for beginning adult readers through the intermediate level as determined by ACC’s reading assessments. Classes are offered morning, afternoon, and evening at ACC’s Carrington-Scott Campus in Graham and the Dillingham Center in Burlington.

Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) program offers free courses to adults with intellectual disabilities who have the academic and adaptive skills to be successful in a college classroom setting. Our program is designed to foster reading, writing, math, and computer literacy skills with a goal of further academic study and/or employment. Classes meet mornings and afternoons primarily at the Dillingham Center.

High School Equivalency

ACC offers many options to help you earn your high school equivalency diploma. Our programs offer free classes during

the day, evening, online, and through a postage-paid mail correspondence course.

ADULT HIGH SCHOOL CALL 336-506-4376

This program helps adults who have not graduated from high school to complete their credentials through individualized

instruction. Classes are available day, evening, and online. Graduates receive a diploma jointly issued by the Alamance-

Burlington School System and Alamance Community College.

2014 GED® TEST SERIES CALL 336-506-4376

Study for the new computerized exam which includes four subjects: Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and

Mathematics. Total cost is $80 ($20 per subject at time of test).

Newly approved in North Carolina, the Hi-SET offers paper and computer-based testing options for five subjects:

Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics. Total cost is $50 ($10 per subject at time of test).

*GED and Hi-SET completers all receive an identical High School Equivalency Diploma issued by the NC State Board of

Community Colleges. Each subject can be re-taken up to two times for free.

HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT (HRD) 336-506-4402

HRD focuses on the development of workplace skills by providing skill assessment services, employability skills training,

and career development counseling to unemployed and underemployed adults. The HRD program is student-centered

and focuses on the creation of activities geared towards the acquisition of work-related skills, the establishment of a

variety of options for upgrading employment-related skills, and the development of proactive outreach and instructional

strategies to help students reach their goals.

Pre-requisite: Student must have taken prior pottery classes and understand the basics of pottery. Making a teapot

is considered a milestone for many people learning pottery. Students will learn all elements of making teapots

including handles, spouts and lids. Various techniques will be explored to add unique, decorative designs.

Sewing

Whether you are a beginner just learning to thread a needle or have been sewing for a while, this class is appropriate

for you. Instructor will work with students on all levels to help them select and sew a project at their skill level.

Students will be given detailed instruction and guidance on their individual projects. All students work in class and

may work on items at home. Learn machine operation and maintenance and make individual projects such as simple

window treatment, children’s clothing, tote bags, basic clothing. There are a limited number of machines available

in the classroom to share, so students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine. *Students are

generation? Then this is the class for you. Learn basic minor touch up procedures and basic repair techniques for

older furniture. Learn how to revitalize and restore older furniture to a ‘like new’ condition or upcycle those gently

CDL Permit required. This class is designed to teach students to

drive tractor-trailer and trucks. This program will prepare the

prospective driver to understand safety, driver responsibility and also

the laws and regulations governing the motor carrier industry. Upon

successful completion, students are qualified to take the Commercial

Driver’s License Exam and are employable by commercial trucking

firms. Class includes classroom and behind the wheel portions.

Defensive Driving (4 Hour)

This class is designed for low speeds, stop sign and stop light violations. Students will learn essential defensive

driving techniques and skills to avoid collisions and decrease future violations. If you want a refresher course in the

latest rules of the road, this class may be for you. Topics covered include safety belts, child safety regulations,

passing safely, the effect of alcohol and drugs on driving and vehicle laws and regulations.

New! Attitudinal Dynamics of Driving - (8 hours)

This class is designed for high speeds, speeding in a work zone, speeding in school zone, all other aggressive driving

violations and repeat offenders. This highly effective driver-training program is developed especially for problem

drivers. By emphasizing the connections between behavior and attitude, DDC-ADD helps participants to see how

reckless driving is a result of their own actions.

Motorcycle Safety

Basic Rider Course - The Basic Rider Course is aimed at beginning riders of all ages. Never ridden a

motorcycle? Maybe you need to refresh your skills. You will be amazed with your newly-found skills and confidence.

(Even experienced riders have expressed appreciation for the skills they have learned.) Most self-taught riders are

unaware of the skills needed to minimize chances of accidents or injuries. Successful completion will exempt you

from the riding portion of the NCDMV Endorsement test. Many insurance companies offer premium discounts for

successful graduates of this course. The course consists a mixture of classroom and range/riding time. Practical

riding skills are developed in a controlled, off-street environment. The course is also mandatory for motorcyclists

under the age of 18 in the state of NC. Each course meets on Friday night and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Enrollment is limited to 11 students per class and is taken on a first come, first served basis. Register and

BRC2 - The Basic Rider Course 2 is for someone who has been riding for a little while. It’s a great way to learn

more about your riding abilities and the capabilities of your motorcycle. Students interested in attending must

possess a valid motorcycle license or motorcycle endorsement to their license. It is recommended that you have at

least 6 months riding experience or 3,000 miles under your belt. You must provide a street legal, properly licensed

motorcycle for the range exercises, and must show proof of insurance. Your bike must also pass a visual safety

inspection on the morning of the class. The course consists of a full day of riding on a controlled course to allow you

to practice new skills or to refine existing skills. If you normally ride with a passenger, passengers are allowed in the

class for an additional fee. Enrollment is limited to 11 students per class and is taken on a first come, first
