Divine Mercy Novena In preparation for Divine Mercy Sunday,

Jesus asked St. Faustina to make a novena of prayer beginning on Good Friday. We will be praying this powerful novena at Mary Star which will conclude on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 23rd.

(for dates and times please check the Holy Week and Easter schedule in the bulletin as well as flyers in the church)

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY APRIL 23rd

Our Lord asked St. Faustina to pray and work towards establishing a Feast of the Divine Mercy on the Sunday after Easter. He told her: “On this day, the very depths of My

tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon souls who approach the fount of My Mercy. The soul that will

go to confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. Mankind will

not enjoy peace until it turns with confidence to My Mercy.” (Diary of St. Faustina # 699) John Paul II proclaimed

Mercy Sunday an official feast of the church in April of 2000 when he canonized St. Maria Faustina. On April 23rd, Divine

Mercy Sunday, the 9am Mass will be celebrated by our pastor, Fr. Harrigan. At 3pm, there will be a Divine Mercy Holy Hour, in the church. The hour begins with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be sung followed by the Litany of Mercy, Benediction, and individual veneration

of a first class relic of St. Faustina. The celebration will conclude with a reception in the parish center.

You are invited to join us on Tuesday evenings & 7:30 pm -9:00 pm. in the Parish Center Chapel. We begin with praise and worship and continue with shared scripture and prayer for

all those who are in need. It is a wonderful time to come together to praise Jesus, for all he is doing in our lives! Were two or three are gathered in my name I am in their midst"- Matt. 18- 'For information call the rectory (310)833-3541 or Louise Garcia at (310)831-9839 Thank You, Louise Garcia

On Saturday, April 22, 2017 the Italian Catholic Federation is celebrating the Feast of the Madonna dell 'Arco at the 5:15 P.M.

Mass. The Italian Community has long been devoted to the Madonna dell 'Arco. The name of the Madonna dell’Arco originates from an area where there were aqueducts with supporting columns and arches (arco) built during the Roman Empire. On one of these columns a

devoted artist painted the image of the Blessed Virgin and Child. Many centuries later, youths were playing bocce ball near this column. After a clumsy throw, the ball of one of the players hit a tree that shaded the sacred shrine. The youth, blinded by anger, retrieved the ball and threw it against the image of Our Lady, hitting her on the right cheek. To the shock of all those present, the cheek was seen bleeding, as if it were of real flesh. Centuries later this original image was cut away from the column and placed in the Church Sanctuary in Naples, Italy. Many miracles were recorded since then and in March 1675 for about a month, the image of Our Lady was seen surrounded by stars, while the right cheek appeared red with blood. A mosaic of the Madonna dell 'Arco donated by Mr. Joseph Scotti was placed in the Shrine of Saint John Joseph of the Cross. Please join us to celebrate the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Arch. A procession will start from the back of the church with the portrait of the Madonna along with Mary Star societies and their banner. All are welcome to bring flowers from the garden and place them in front of the Madonna dell’Arco.

Passion Sunday

Holy Week: Today, as we journey with Jesus on the way to Calvary we enter into the mystery of the crucified, buried and risen Lord who, by his entrance into Jerusalem, gave a glimpse of his own majesty. We are inaugurated into the liturgical year's holiest most solemn week. The first days of Holy Week, like all Lent, serve as final preparation for the celebration of Easter. Lent ends on the evening of Holy Thursday when we begin to celebrate the Triduum, from sunset on Holy Thursday to sunset on Easter Sunday. This is the "mother of all feasts" the most important three days in the liturgical year. CRS RICE BOWL: A reminder to return the Rice Bowls received at the beginning of Lent. No Religious Education classes on Wednesday April 12 and Saturday April 15. Classes will resume on Wednesday April 19 and April 22.
