USING OUR TIME WISELY A jar of honey lasts practically forever. The oldest

jar of honey ever discovered was over five thousand

years old. Honey is quite different from market-fresh

produce, then; because most fruits and vegetables

last only a few days, we treat them carefully. At this

time of summer, we rush to find recipes for cherries

and cucumbers so we won’t waste a single one. We

wouldn’t feel that same urgency about honey.

In our own way, we are as delightful and fragile

as ripe produce. Today’s readings urge us not to

spoil, but to make good use of our limited time on

earth. Ecclesiastes reminds us that because God

provides for us now and always, we can manage our

daily affairs without anxiety. Saint Paul encourages

the Colossians to keep thoughts of heaven in

everything they do, and Jesus himself asks us to

the first day of class, Aug 4th. Class meets in the lower

dear to their hearts. Tanya Sheeley and Marie Guilliams

the process of fulfilling the purpose God has for them

just as Zack and Katie demonstrated. 8th - 12th grade

teens and their friends will meet in the school library

Sunday, August 11th 5:30 – 7 pm. Dinner will be

provided. Teens will form a steering committee for the

purpose of faith and fellowship. Please be considerate

and RSVP to Marie by noon on Sunday the 11th to

ensure that we do not have “too much food.”

Our official parish kickoff will begin at 5 pm on Sunday,

August 25th in the Parish Center inviting families to see

the movie, “Breakthrough.” More details to come in next

week’s bulletin and on the St. Paul website.

which is eternal and abides. —St. Eusebius of Vercelli
