Happy December

Birthdays!

and to anyone celebrating

a birthday in December but

we did not know the date of

your special day!

A connection to the rest of the world: the CBF Offering for Global Missions

Throughout the Advent season each year, our church takes up a special offering – the

CBF Offering for Global Missions. Towards the end of November, we start talking

about how important it is to support specific ministries around the world, and we put

out resources around the church and on Facebook to help explain the impact of this

offering. We put offering envelopes in the pews and inserts into your bulletins, and we

ask you to give financially, over and above your regular tithe (not to mention all those

Christmas gifts!) for people who you will likely never meet.

If you’re anything like me, the busy-ness of the season has always prevented me from

really taking the time to understand why our church participates in this offering focus.

It ends up feeling like just one among many organizations we support. So this year, I

am challenging myself to do a better job of understanding what CBF Global Missions

is all about. If you will join me, let’s go beyond just writing a check to educating

ourselves and praying for all involved.

From the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship: The Offering for Global Missions is the primary source of support ensuring the long-term presence of field personnel around

the world. Your church’s active giving and participation make the work of Global

Missions possible. This year’s theme is our Global Missions commitment of Bearing Witness to Jesus Christ. We bear witness to the gospel through words that invite faith

and actions that embody the way of Jesus.

In other words, think of this offering as your annual gift to support a missionary (field

personnel is the description we use today). Or, more accurately, to all 150+ field per-

sonnel supported by CBF. The best part is that 100% of this offering – every dime –

goes to support these field personnel and their work. By participating, you make a

direct impact on our world. That’s pretty cool.

So, where do we go from here? This is my recommendation:

1. Watch these videos: http://www.cbf.net/bearingwitness/

2. Pray for those people who are doing amazing work as field personnel on our

behalf.

3. Donate to the CBF Offering for Global missions (either via check – offering

envelopes are in the sanctuary or at the church office – or online here:

http://www.cbf.net/missions/ogm/)

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the

Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. - Matthew 28:19

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORS

Friendly Neighbors met on Thursday, November 8th in the Fellowship Hall for our fall meeting and lunch. We had a wonderful turkey dinner with dressing, green peas, sweet potato casserole, rolls, and peach cobbler. Anita Collins and her father, Clyde Ellison, provided the entertainment. We always enjoy hearing Clyde’s singing advertisements and, of course, Anita is so talented on the guitar too. We were so surprised when Tim Willis dropped in to see us. He was at the church on business with Randy Holloway so we invited them to join us. It is always good to see Tim and catch up with what he is doing.

Our next meeting will be our Christmas meeting in the Fellowship Hall on Thursday, December 8th. Call for reservations if you do not get a call from me first.

Dear Church Family,

It has been a privilege to be a part of the Augusta Road Baptist Church music program for the past 20 years!! I have been so blessed by all of you and the encouragement you have given to me. Thank you for all your love and kindness and for the generous gift received last Sunday (November 6th).

It is a joy to play the piano each time we worship together and I pray God will allow me to continue in this ministry for many years to come!!

May God bless!!
