    Staff News

By now, families would have heard that Mrs Bonazza will be leaving St Paul’s at the end of Term 2. Mrs Bonazza has been appointed as Director of Primary Curriculum and PYP Coordinator at Barker College. This is a well-deserved and significant appointment and one deserving our congratulations. Mrs Newton and Mr Harnett will take the class from Term 3 and for the remainder of the Year.

Mrs Edwards, Head of Junior School Support, has had a gorgeous baby boy, Harrison, and will be taking maternity leave. Dad, mum and baby are doing well.

Mrs Karen Daniels will be acting in this role until Mrs Edwards’ return. Mrs Daniels has been working in both the Junior and Secondary School Support departments over the last 7 years and brings a broad range of experiences from Early Childhood Directing

Students Return to Face-to-Face to Teaching

It was wonderful for our Junior School Students to return to school full-time on Monday, 25th May 2020. Hearing student laughter and footsteps was a delight.

This week has also been an opportunity to work with staff and students to reflect on their experiences of remote learning. We have all learnt so much - new skills and things about ourselves as well. The students have made an excellent transition back to routine and adapted well to new procedures including hand sanitising and social distancing, where possible.

Thank you to all our families for helping with the transition and new procedures.

    Year 10 Into Year 11 2021 Information

Year 10 students are about to embark on the journey to senior Secondary School at St Paul's. In previous years we have held an information evening which involved a short formal presentation regarding student life in Year 11 and 12. The evening focussed on the courses and subjects available for study, followed by an hour or more for parents and students to speak with myself and teachers regarding course and subject choices. We have moved this evening to Thursday, 22nd July. To enable the evening to comply with Government advice regarding meetings, Year 10 parent teacher evening has also been moved to Monday, 27th July. Although these dates are later than in previous years, we still plan to confirm subject choices by the end of Term 3.

A full range of subjects will be available to students.

    Procedures for Students

It has been wonderful to see all our students back at school on a full-time basis this week. Most of our students have done a wonderful job of adjusting to the new procedures that had been adopted due to COVID-19. The one area that still needs some work, is in regard to students not making physical contact with other students. Some students are still in the habit of greeting each other by hugging or shaking hands at the start of the day or in the playground during breaks. This is something that is not permitted at this time and it has been made very clear to our students. If you are able to reinforce this with your children at home that would be greatly appreciated. We hope to avoid making this into a discipline issue at school, however, there will be consequences for students who repeatedly make contact with one another and ignore these important safety proceedures.

    ISA Sport Incomming

With the state government recently announcing limited lifting of restrictions in regard to sport by the time this edition of Revelations is distributed, it is highly likely that most of our sporting teams will have either just started, or will be just about to start, training for the ISA season. While a final decision on any starting date for the competition has yet to be confirmed, our teams have been given the green light to start training to be prepared should the season commence as hoped.

    Winter Uniform

A quick reminder to all families about uniform. The crossover from summer to winter uniform has now ended and all students are to be in winter uniform. On the days students in Years 7 - 10 have Physical Education they are permitted to wear their sports uniform for the entire day at school. This change to our normal uniform arrangements has been designed to stop the clustering of students in changerooms.

Stay Tuned for More on Combined House Day

Finally, I wanted to let the school community know that tentative plans are under way for our annual Combined House Day to be held on the final day of this term. Many of the details of the day are still to be confirmed because of the need to adjust the day's activities to be in line with current restrictions. Even though the day may end up looking quite different to previous years, the prefects, Heads of House and I remain hopeful that it will be a big success and generate much needed support for Congo Aid.

    Music Ensembles Programme News

New Music EnsembleSt Paul's is looking to form a new music ensemble to explore Alternative Rock Music. Thank you to Jake Warner (Year 10) and Max Caterson (Year 10) who have taken the initiative to get this group up and running. Interested students should be looking to build their skills in alternative music like heavy metal, rock, alternative, emo and punk rock.

We are looking for the following for this exciting new venture:

    • 2 or more electric guitarists

    • 1 or more bassists

    • 1 or more vocalists (male or female). Vocalists should at least be able to sing ‘clean’ vocals and should be willing to explore some screams or similar techniques.

All musicians need to be confident and competent but don’t need to be of expert level to apply. Students who would like to apply should register on the Music Academy my.stpauls page.

Senior School Music Ensembles re-commenced on Monday, 11th May 2020 as part of St Paul’s staged return to school. All ensembles are enjoying their time back at school rehearsing music together.

Please note that Junior School Music Ensembles will be re-commencing in Week 6.

All Music Tutors have been briefed on the appropriate safety and hygiene protocols for Music Ensemble rehearsals and Conservatorium lessons.

    What does this look like?

    • Tutors will ensure students are practising social distancing
