CHURCH COVENANT
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ
as our Saviour; and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name
of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of
God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with
one another, as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian
love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge and holiness; to give
it a place in our affections, prayers and services above every organization of human
origin; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrine; to contribute
cheerfully and regularly, as God has prospered us, towards its expenses, for the
support of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, the relief of the poor and the
spread of the Gospel throughout the world. In case of difference of opinion in the
church, we will strive to avoid a contentious spirit, and if we cannot unanimously
agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the majority to govern.
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to study diligently the word
of God, to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and
acquaintance; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just to those in our
employ, and faithful in the service we promise others; endeavoring in the purity of
heart and good will towards all men to exemplify and commend our holy faith.
We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and stir up each other unto
every good word and work; to guard each other’s reputation, not needlessly exposing
the infirmities of others; to participate in each other’s joys, and with tender sympathy
bear one another’s burdens and sorrows; to cultivate Christian courtesy; to be slow
to give or take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules
of the Saviour in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew, to secure it without delay; and
through life, amid evil report, and good report, to seek to live to the glory of God,
who hath called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.
When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with
some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the
principles of God’s word.

ABYSSINIAN BAPTIST CHURCH FEDERAL CREDIT UNION is currently
opening new 2019-2020 Christmas Club accounts for children and adults. Stop by
the Credit Union for the holiday club schedule and open your account today! The
Credit Union also seeks dedicated volunteers with accounting and website
development backgrounds. Inquire at the Credit Union for more details (1st Fl. Rear
of Conference Room). On Wednesday November 20, the Credit Union will
open at 5:30 PM and close promptly at 6:45 PM.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Thank you to everyone who supported the $3.0 in 24MO! Campaign and to those who attended the reception. This two year campaign officially ended on
October 31, 2016. To date, the campaign allowed us to pay for the cost of nearly two of the five floors. Your generosity has been overwhelming.
As you can see, we still have a way to go. For those who have not completed their pledge, we want
you to continue your payments even though the campaign has ended from an accounting point of view. All of your future payments will be noted to your pledge. We ask you to continue to support
AbyWest. New initiatives will roll out soon as we continue to forge ahead to reach our goal of $8MM to complete the entire five floor community center.
We continue to strive to attain 100% participation because we want others to know our membership is committed to this effort. Your support is greatly appreciated!
ABYWEST IS HERE • This past Homecoming Sunday, Abyssinians were
able to tour our new Educational & Cultural Community Center, and many observed that the building is beautiful! Very soon we will make final
payments to take ownership and occupancy. After this step, we’ll start “buildout “of the Fellowship Hall as it presents strong revenue generating
potential to support our programmatic efforts. We could not have come “this far” without the Lord on our side, and the unwavering support of
Abyssinian members.
As we finalize AbyWest, members are encouraged to visit the Trustees table
in the Lobby Bookstore to complete your commitments. If you would like to review your payment balance, stop by the Bookstore after Sunday worship
service no later than December 1st.
Sincerest thanks to everyone as we advance toward the grand moment of
accomplishment!
THE ABYSSINIAN BAPTIST CHURCH MISSIONARY MINISTRY
2019 STEWARDSHIP REPORT The mission of The Abyssinian Baptist Church Missionary Ministry is “to evangelize and spread the Gospel through intercessory prayer, visitation, scripture reading, food distribution, educational
workshops and donations, as well as faithful service to the sick and shut-in, the incarcerated, seniors,
and those in need, locally, nationally, and internationally.
VISITATION Abyssinian Missionaries shared encouragement with the church’s Sick & Shut-in members
through cards, calls, home and hospital visits, and we supported grieving missionary members
and their families. Further, Abyssinian Missionaries delivered over 30 Easter Lilies and The Daily
Word to Sick & Shut-in members and others during Holy Week and beyond Resurrection
Sunday. Sadly, this year we lost several Missionary members, Karen Owes, Inez Alexander,
Bealer Dennard and Brucie Smith.
FOREIGN MISSION
The Abyssinian Missionary Ministry also supported the church’s Abyssinian Fund Affiliate with
donations and assistance to causes in our Motherland. We are committed to assisting Reverend
Itang Young in the work of AbyFund, and remain supportive of international projects supported
by the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. We made our annual contribution to the Hospital
in Malawi, Africa, attended The Foreign Mission Rally in November 2019, the United Missionary
Baptist Association’s World Day of Prayer in November 2019, and maintain membership in the
Loyal Boosters.
HOME MISSIONS We are proud that our President, Sister Susie Drayton, was named Empire Missionary Baptist
Convention Queen for the year 2019. She worked hard and reigned with distinction,
representing both the Empire Convention and The Abyssinian Baptist Church. At home, we
sponsored a Back-to-School Haircuts for boys and hairstyles for girls in the Harlem community.
We also donated clothing to various Nursing homes through the Women’s Auxiliary of the
Empire Baptist Missionary Convention. We continuously replenish food and clothing supplies
for families in need at the Samuel Proctor Residence. During the upcoming holiday season,
Abyssinian Missionaries will once again support Harlem seniors and families in need by providing
Thanksgiving Holiday meals, and through the Charlyce B. Sampson Christmas Love Basket effort.
We anticipate distributing 225 baskets, and thank God for the generous donations from
Abyssinian ministries, church members, and the 100 Black Men Organization. Additionally, the
Missionary Ministry remains enthusiastic toward supporting our church’s AbyWest project.
GENERAL Throughout 2019, our members supported Harlem and greater NYC Churches in celebrations,
revivals, workshops and conferences. Our members attended the National Baptist Convention
in September 2019, all sessions of the United Missionary Baptist Association, and we were
present at the October 2019 Annual Session when our Diaconate Chair, Deacon Eleanor E.
Olive, gave her final Report as President of The Women’s Auxiliary to UMBA. We supported
and served at the Empire Baptist Missionary Convention, and we collaborated with the
Abyssinian American Baptist Women’s Ministry and Abyssinian’s Health Ministry. The Missionary
Ministry has, and will continue to achieve its mission duties. We seek the Lord’s guidance for the plans
that we hope to expand in the areas of Foreign and Home Mission.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
BIBLE QUEST As we prepare for a month-long Bible study on Hospitality, Kindness and Forgiveness, let us focus
on scriptures of thanksgiving and expressions of love. See how well you respond to the following
questions before checking scripture references provided. Remember to center yourself as you
read the entire chapter where answers are found. 1. Where will you find these words in the epistle to the Philippians, “Rejoice in the
Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice, let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is
near?”
2. In Genesis, what was the first thing Joseph wanted to know about his father,
Jacob, after revealing himself to his brothers who sold him into slavery?
3. Fill in the blank with the appropriate word Paul spoke to the Colossians in
chapter 1, “We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we
_______ for you.”
4. What does 1 Peter 4:9 say about how we should respond when offering
hospitality to one another?
ABYSSINIAN INSTITUTE FOR CHRISTIAN EDUCATION (AICE)
2019 FALL COURSES
Sunday Morning Bible Study - Deacon Gwenette Reese
Sundays: 9:00 AM-10:00 AM - 1st Fl Conference Room
This study of God’s Word is designed to expand its reach to those who are interested in applying
practical solutions to everyday issues. It helps members focus on the will of God, as they read the
Bible through the lens of the African-American experience.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Legacy of Faith - Rev. Pamela D. Mason
Tuesdays: 7 PM – 8:30 PM - 11/19 | Blue Room I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice
II Timothy 1:5-14. Faith grows over time when tested by fire! It starts as small as a mustard seed,
but when we commit to a transformed life in Christ, faith strengthens through the power of God’s
Holy Spirit. If you are ready to reach for peace that passes all understanding through faith, join this
special teaching as we seek evidence of God’s faithfulness to those who diligently seek and glorify
God’s name. We will examine stories of faith found in God’s Word, explore the faith practices of
our ancestors, and identify God’s movement in circumstances of our lives, and in the world today.

ARE YOU RECEIVING PROPER CREDIT
FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS?
Please assist the Trustees in our weekly tally process by including your membership
numbers with your contributions. The membership number is the key element for
accurate recording of your gifts, and should be noted on all of your contributions for
proper credit. Please Remember:
➢ When placing your Tithe/Offering/Contribution in an envelope, make sure
that your assigned Abyssinian Baptist Church member number is visible
on the top right-hand side;
➢ If you are writing a check, please include your Church member number in
the memo line or at top of the check;
➢ Make sure to inform us of your intentions by noting amount for tithes,
offering, or AbyWest on the envelope, or in the memo section of your
check.
Proper notations, membership numbers, and clear intentions
will help to ensure accurate year-end reporting of your contributions.
MATCHING GIFT OPPORTUNITIES
Did you know that you can increase your gift to The
Abyssinian Baptist Church by simply notifying your
company? In 2018 we received a strong response from
our membership for the Matching Gift Program
which resulted in additional contributions ranging from 25% - 100%.
Find out if your employer is one of more than 1,400 U.S. companies that participates in
the MATCHING GIFT PROGRAMS. Companies with a MATCHING GIFT
PROGRAM will make a donation to a nonprofit organization that their employees
support. Please check with your company's Human Resources Department to see if it
has a Matching Gift Program and applicable policies, then contact the Abyssinian
Development Committee, through Trustee Alexis Thomas, 212.862.7474 x210.
Every gift we receive helps us manage our Church's many programs. 2019 Donations can be
used to match your tithes, offerings and AbyWest contributions.
