Call to Worship

Leader: Praise ye the Lord! Praise God according to God’s excellent greatness!

People: You have made us a little lower than angels and crowned us with

glory and honor.

Leader: On this Baccalaureate Sunday, we celebrate our scholastic achievements,

and we press on for the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

People: God requires our very best, and we dishonor God if we offer

anything less.

All: Establish the work of our hands, O God, that the spirit of

excellence may be found in all we do. Amen.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Thank you to everyone who supported the $3.0 in 24MO! Campaign and to those who attended the reception. This two year campaign officially ended

on October 31, 2016. To date, the campaign allowed us to pay for the cost of nearly two of the five floors. Your generosity has been overwhelming.

As you can see, we still have a way to go. For those who have not completed their pledge, we want

you to continue your payments even though the campaign has ended from an accounting point of view. All of your future payments will be noted to your pledge. We ask you to continue to support

AbyWest. New initiatives will roll out soon as we continue to forge ahead to reach our goal of $8MM to complete the entire five floor community center.

We continue to strive to attain 100% participation because we want others to know our

membership is committed to this effort. Your support is greatly appreciated!

THE ABYWEST COMMUNITY CENTER IS COMING ALIVE!

As we continue fundraising to meet our $12 million goal to complete AbyWest,

we would like to share preliminary renderings of the Community Center’s

Reception Area and Fellowship Hall.

We envision a space where members can gather and fellowship before and

after worship services, and it would also function as a Hall for special occasions

and events.

We urge you to continue supporting this effort, and remain diligent and prayerful

as we strive to reach our goal.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

As we remember the Day of Pentecost, try to answer questions below before

checking the church website for correct Bible reference points.

http://abyssinian.org/ministry/christian-education/abyssinian-institute-for-christian-

education/ Stay intentional about taking time to center yourself, as you read the entire

chapter where the answers are found.

1) On the day of Pentecost, when the apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit,

what did they begin to do?

2) Who delivered a sermon to those gathered at the day of Pentecost?

3) What were those gathered told would be the gift received by those who

repented and were baptized?

4) How many were baptized on the day of Pentecost?

MINISTRY

Today, The Abyssinian Baptist Church

and its Scholarship Ministry observe

BACCALAUREATE SUNDAY.

We celebrate and applaud our graduates in

the class of 2017, as well as recipients of

Abyssinian Scholarships, and Honorary

Degrees.

APPEAL TO SUPPORT THE ABYSSINIAN SCHOLARSHIP MINISTRY

Throughout my four years at University of Hartford, The Abyssinian Baptist Church

Scholarship Ministry supported all of my educational endeavors, and provided a great

source of emotional help. Receiving Abyssinian’s Scholarship, along with spiritual

guidance, ensured that I continued on the right path. The best part about the

scholarship was not just the monetary support, but the love that came through the

care packages which always seemed to arrive at the time of finals and included

everything a college student needs to survive. Those care packages really helped

during long nights of studying.

I write this letter as a sincere expression of my appreciation to the Scholarship

Ministry for its encouraging hard work, but more importantly, I am appealing to the

entire Abyssinian congregation, as well as our visitors and friends, to financially

support the Scholarship Ministry especially during the month of June. The youth are

our future! With the help of the Scholarship Ministry, students will be able to focus on

studying and graduating from college instead of worrying about tuition or textbook

costs. May God bless you all and inspire your hearts to support The Abyssinian Baptist

Church Scholarship Ministry.
